We need brave women REFUSING to be silenced. TRUTH IS NOT HATE! IGNORANCE IS NOT STRENGTH!
We are that woman.

Jenn has written an interesting essay on the cult like elements of trans activism.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 23/04/2018 09:54

Solidarity to Jenn and everyone there

ijustwannadance · 23/04/2018 10:30

People have had the police on their doorstep for saying what is on that banner

It just sounds completely absurd that telling the truth is illegal

ScarletBegonias · 23/04/2018 12:03

The Jenn Smith essay linked below is fascinating. And terrifying.

ScarletBegonias · 23/04/2018 12:05

Sorry. I mean linked above.

(I'm reading upside-down.)

Childrenofthestones · 24/04/2018 12:07

ijustwannadance quoting-

"People have had the police on their doorstep for saying what is on that banner

"It is amazing how much panic one honest man can spread amongst a multitude of hypocrites"

Kari Simpson? she's another religious fanatic.

thebewilderness · 24/04/2018 23:33

It has all the trappings of a religious war sometimes, doesn't it.
That is because they are arguing over beliefs instead of material reality.

ItLooksABitOff · 24/04/2018 23:37

it's really bewildering. I live here, have children at school here and no one I know cares about C-16 or thinks it's compelled speech (it isn't, that lie of JP's has no bearing on reality - many legal experts IN CANADA have stated this) or believes cis women are somehow losing something by recognizing trans women as women. JP's ideas have been well and truly debunked by academics iN Canada. It is super frustrating seeing people who don't understand the context of Canada parroting what he says.

FWIW, my daughter has had friends at school who are gender questioning. One of them has unfortunately moved to Abbotsford, a much more conservative Christian stronghold of BC and is having a hard time. it is HARD ENOUGH without bigotry like this.

I'm just really sad. We as a family have trans friends. They are not the enemy here.

ItLooksABitOff · 24/04/2018 23:39

Abbotsford is where Jenn lives btw. I'm very curious as to what her background is because she seems to have lined up with Kari Simpson who is a well known right wing Christian shit stirrer here. That makes me suspicious.

thebewilderness · 24/04/2018 23:56

My friends in Canada are already feeling the effects.
I noticed some of the newspapers are now adding a picture when they report on a woman arrested for a crime because they are not allowed to say they are transgender.
Give it time. You will find out that what you thought were women's rights are now viewed as wrongs.

Pratchet · 25/04/2018 07:21

It looks: well a bloke was charged and appeared in court in the UK for saying 'alright geezer' to a trans'woman' so excuse me if I don't share your complacency.

Wanderabout · 25/04/2018 08:12

Jenn is a transwoman and says she is an atheist. She says she has teamed up with christians to fight for women's rights and freedom of speech on a pragmatic basis.

ItLooksABitOff · 25/04/2018 18:44

that's your country. Your country has different laws to mine. Stop projecting your fear onto us.

I'm still waiting for these effects. I've seen none. But I'm not a bigot, so...

Jenn has decided to align herself with one of the most right-wing religious whackjobs out there. I remember Kari well - she and her mates (mostly all Christian/religious) tried to get our school district to drop it's ban on the bullying of LGBTQ and 2S kids. I remember trying to watch her shows on radio roadkill. I was one of the many (fortunately) parents involved in the backlash against them. They tried to take over our school board and failed thank FUCK.

This just looks like the same old anti-LGBTQ bigotry to me. Plus ca change...

thebewilderness · 25/04/2018 18:48

It looks like the same old guilt by association that they beat the hell out of women for in the seventies and eighties when we fought against legalizing the rape torture and abuse of women in pornstitution.

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 25/04/2018 18:53

Wonder if the zealot can manage a post without saying bigot bigot bigot like a spouting spigot spigot spigot. Doubt it.

eyeroll.

zealot. haha, nice try. I'm not the one siding with the religious nutters.

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 25/04/2018 19:34

Yawn.

There are effects. In Canada. Female prison staff have to conduct searches by gender not sex or face disciplinary action. Shelter for DV had one woman ejected and one followed her when a male-bodied person was placed there and she objected. I know of transwomen who have not physically transitioned at all taking spaces in women's shelters. There are mixed shelters but the very oversubscribed women's spaces are being taken up.

I really do agree that there is also discrimination towards LGB and T people. I do. I do not see these as two 'sides' though. There need to be safe shelter spaces for trans people. Absolutely. There also need to be safe shelter spaces for women whose SEX is female. Women who are triggered by male bodies. Those aren't competing positions and talking about it shouldn't be 'bigotry'.

thebewilderness · 25/04/2018 19:47

ItLooksABitOff

If you start counting the dead women the unintended consequences of poorly written laws may come home to you.
You would have to take a break from demonizing women you disagree with, though.

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 25/04/2018 20:01

Clearly had their cage rattled to have to shout at us from Canada. I guess the righteous gender zealots have no limits to their generosity in shouting non believers down.

Can it be the same old LGB bigotry if half the people saying it are lesbians? Is it likely to be homophobia under a new banner if that's the case? If all the people saying it are the ones who fought FOR gay marriage and AGAINST Section 28?

Or is that just lazy as fuck thinking?
