It's going to be amazing. Please come.

A famous trans activist is coming. Film crews (yes more than one). Feminist royalty. This event is a game changer.

Make sure to tweet the jamhouse to thank them. They were under pressure according to their twitter feed/Facebook

SlightAggrandising · 19/04/2018 22:16

Sorry jamjar

First time a meeting like this has had the venue publicised in advance and the meeting has actually gone ahead at that venue. That says a lot about the tactics of the TRAs. Well done to the venue for standing their ground.

RosenbergW · 19/04/2018 22:25

It was brilliant being able to watch that in real time.

The love in that room for Magdalen Berns! That whole room is in love with her. I'm totally with them.

Julie Bindel was sat in a chair near/at the front, somewhere near the shouty Labour women. I don't think she spoke, I didn't her her voice.

I'm always surprised by how shocked people who are new to this topic are by it all. Witnessing people peak trans right in front of you.

And the people who have yet to peak. That woman who wanted to give the people outside a website so they could learn and she could talk to them. Nicole's answer was perfect.

Nice one everyone who went and spoke and hosted and put it online :)

Great watching the last half. Interesting Simone de B was mentioned in the bit I missed. I skim read my copy last month looking for any mention of transsexuals. They just weren't enough of them to mention in Paris and she was opposed to gender stereotypes and society creating a woman

RaininSummer · 19/04/2018 22:56

It was amazing to hear all the speakers. Can't wait for the Cornwall event.

AnitaLovesVictor · 19/04/2018 22:59

I think Munroe's flounce must have happened off camera - because I watched the whole thing live, and I didn't notice it. DIdn't even realised she'd flounced till I read it on twitter.

Of course it's possible I was distracted by one of those pesky family members I live with - I have to put up with their interruptions occasionally whilst feministing Grin

Posie - hats off to you, if you're reading - you were amazing, as were all the speakers. Fantastic meeting to watch.

Spending2muchtimeonMN · 19/04/2018 23:09

Munroe's feminine pink documentary to explain to all us silly females what a woman is:

www.bricksmagazine.co.uk/single-post/Munroe-Bergdorf-Announces-First-Documentary

Isn't it amazing how on so many important issues affecting women, the most qualified woman to explain it is male?

I'm also not entirely sure how they can claim Munroe as a role model for equality given their history of homophobic and lesbophobic comments.

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 19/04/2018 23:31

Do we even have to have that numpty linked here? Give it a rest.

Spending2muchtimeonMN · 19/04/2018 23:34

You're right. I'm just going to think about all those amazing, brave, articulate women at the meeting in Bristol . Totally inspiring.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 19/04/2018 23:45

Thay was brilliant

AdultHumanFemale · 19/04/2018 23:47

Waaah! How did I not know about this?! Would have loved to be there.

Writersblock2 · 20/04/2018 00:16

Fab event, everyone. Hope you’re all safe after the crap outside.

Duddlepluck · 20/04/2018 00:19

Not trying to make anyone jealous or anything, but I was there, and it was absolutely AMAZING, if more than a bit scary at times. I spent half the evening feeling like some kind of feminist fangirl - got to meet so many of my sheros... Grin

Pratchet · 20/04/2018 00:25

That's great duddle 🙂 You will remember it forever. You were there for the fight back. How great is that 🌟

JustAnotherSpartacus · 20/04/2018 00:45

You can re-watch it on the link here www.facebook.com/TheJamJarBristol/videos/vb.170323713162841/793672257494647

spontaneousgiventime · 20/04/2018 00:56

You know what really peeves me? Those women were so brave and they had to be to face a group of TRA who cornered them on the stairs. That is BANG out of order. Speech is still free in the country, yet those brave women felt intimidated just for attending a meeting.

Watched the video and it was so inspirational, so many 'veteran' speakers along with newer ones. I'm going to bed with my head full of idea's and my heart full of hope because of those brave, brave women!

Lots of brave in this post but they were and we shouldn't need to be just to meet up for a meeting with like minded people. Bravo to the small number of men who attended too, my late husband would have cheered us on, and there are others who will too. Twitter has been full of both sexes defending womens rights today. Here's to it continuing.

Angryresister · 20/04/2018 01:47

Good to see you all there...comforting to know that there are always problems with the technology, still! Great line up , great team. Fantastic to be able to see actual women talking.

womanhuman · 20/04/2018 01:53

I have just finished watching. Amazing.

thebewilderness · 20/04/2018 03:56

Are they actually suggesting that transgender identified males might lose control and assault women if they do not have someone to walk them home?
Kinda like that how to prevent rape by the buddy system or giving men a rape whistle he can blow when the urge overcomes him so his random bystanders can come and stop him?

TotallyLibrarianPoo · 20/04/2018 04:23

Can someone please tell me if the TRAs outside were masked, and were they caught on film?

Posie Flowers, you were all fabulously brilliant and brave to do this, thank you!

BrashCandicoot · 20/04/2018 07:00

@thebewilderness I read it as them thinking that the GC feminists would be the assailants. Which is a pretty interesting way of rewriting how violence tends to be committed, especially considering Maria’s court case this week.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/04/2018 08:11

I read it that way too. I found it absolutely bizarre. What did they think the roving gangs of gender critical feminists were going to do? Of course if you only ever move in circles where nobody challenges your world view it must be very jarring suddenly to realise that not everyone else agrees with you, but how does that suddenly translate to violence? Where's the resilience, the mental toughness, the confidence in your own position? How do these people get through life if they're as fragile as this?

SirVixofVixHall · 20/04/2018 08:21

I still can’t access the video. Really want to watch it. It is brilliant that the venue supported women’s right to discuss legistation.
