Just wanted to see who is going to this, and let Mumsnetters know it is happening if you didn't already. It's going to be a great meeting I think - with a choir singing too!

Truscum

Interesting choice of words there, crispbuttyfan. That's a very unpleasant term for those who have a different point of view. Just about as offensive as TERF, I'd say. I hope that post stays up so others can see where you're coming from.

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 13/04/2018 10:33

“I see cis-people and some truscum, claim it to be black and white, and look to elevate themselves by pigeon holing others into different subsets”

Why do you use that kind of language?

Kneedeepinunicorns · 13/04/2018 10:36

Please can we not repeat that term of abuse? It will force HQ to mass deletions.

#TGLWGH.

Think there's some true colours being shown now. Remember our new mantra. They go low, we go high.

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 13/04/2018 10:40

Ok.

Crispbutty,

How can you hope to persuade me of your points of view when you are using language like that?

wonderstuff · 13/04/2018 11:34

TRA on Twitter are now trying to identify the place the meeting moved to so they can pile their ‘allowing bigots to meet’ retroric on to whoever allowed access. They believe it’s a school and a misuse of public funded space.

OvaHere · 13/04/2018 11:36

Interesting twitter thread from a man who attended last night.

This has gone too far. You cannot have a functioning democracy when half the population is unable to debate freely proposed legislative changes that affect them

You seem to be making the mistake of thinking that all cis women want to debate these changes, when the majority either support trans rights or are entirely indifferent.

Those that share the views expressed in many of these threads based on misunderstandings of laws and lived experiences of trans people are an even smaller minority that trans people when you take away the sock puppet accounts online.

Have you even seen the events and the inability to attract even 100 people?

Melamin · 13/04/2018 11:55

Yes, they are working overtime. I like how they thought it was in the Albert Hall, complete with orchestra Smile

ZERF · 13/04/2018 11:57

Have you even seen the events and the inability to attract even 100 people?

Hmm, well I can't attend the Newcastle one due to, like biology n that; likely to be a week post csection and cluster feeding a new born.

UpstartCrow · 13/04/2018 11:57

I grew up with a goady as fuck younger brother. The kind of in your face goadyness, like poking you in the chest and saying 'you cant stop me'. I can still remember the smirk on his face.

OvaHere · 13/04/2018 12:03

Turns out the hotel in Cardiff that objects to women discussing their sex based protections was involved in a case a few years back where a woman was sexually assaulted in their steam room.

"inability to attract even 100 people"

Funny, I was under the impression it sold out?

The other 43 people in the audience last night (I spoke to Helen, she counted) must have identified as not there, I suppose. And even then that's bearing in mind that some people had let those attending know that they couldn't risk attending following the intimidation of the Mercure and the associated publicity.

HerFemaleness · 13/04/2018 12:09

It's a deep refusal to accept that trans people should be taken at face value, or that their own words have any merit, when posters endlessly assert to know better about the trans community, and that includes trans people who can only speak for themselves.

Sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too @crispbutty. We can either take everything trans people say about themselves at face value, or we can evaluate their claims to see if they have any merit. It's not possible to do both. One cancels out the other. To take somebody at face value means we accept whatever they say as true without thinking about it even a little.

Do you not see how unreasonable it is for a group of people who are making the most astonishing claims, to to demand that we take these claims at face value? The only other group of people that I can think of who demand such special privileges are religious groups, especially those who want to see creationism taught in classrooms.

Floisme · 13/04/2018 12:09

If the meetings - and discussions on here - are so insignificant then why try so hard to stop them happening?

Beyond11cisRetinol · 13/04/2018 12:17

I wonder if crisp is the same poster who compared WP to the ira? Hmm

Prancingonthevalentine · 13/04/2018 12:21

I really don’t think engaging with crispbutty works as they are not here in good faith and has post after post calling us cis when they have been asked not to. To continue engaging means saying it is ok to do that and our boundaries do not matter.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/04/2018 12:24

You seem to be making the mistake of thinking that all cis women want to debate these changes, when the majority either support trans rights or are entirely indifferent.

I dare say women who identify as 'cis' may indeed take that view. 'Cis women' are a small subset of women.

RosenbergW · 13/04/2018 12:32

With all due respect it doesn't surprise me that the only trans women well regarded on this forum, are the ones that the vast majority of trans women disagree with, and are not welcome to join in trans groups

It doesn't surprise me at all that the people who complain about TERFs turn out to be STEGs ('some trans' exclusive groups) themselves.

I thought I was losing the plot here! I knew I hadn’t posted on this thread but got notifications. If people are going to @ a user, please get their full name correct!

LightofaSilveryMoon · 13/04/2018 12:54

Just arrived home after spending the night in Cardiff. Really enjoyed the meeting.

The speakers were very good - calm, measured, respectful, dealing in facts - and each addressed different angles on how women's rights will be diminished or even removed if the change in legislation goes ahead.

There was a wonderful atmosphere in the hall, a great feeling of togetherness! And particular thanks to all the kind people who ferried everyone to the new venue!

Beyond11cisRetinol · 13/04/2018 12:55

Any women who calls herself "cis" obviously supports the TRA agenda, or she wouldn't be using the arbitrary prefix in the first place.

So I'd personally be concerned about those who call themself cis and yet are indifferent, if I were a TRA. Who are these women who know about it, agree with the concept, and yet don't give a shit about it?

Many apologies. I didn't think. Blush

Must be nice to know you have a fan though, othercrisp Grin

Crispbutty · 13/04/2018 13:10

It’s ok, it’s just completely baffled me 😂😂
