Just wanted to see who is going to this, and let Mumsnetters know it is happening if you didn't already. It's going to be a great meeting I think - with a choir singing too!

Wine Cheers to that MsB (and Beyond Grin )

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 12/04/2018 21:58

Crisp.

I am not Linda or Anne. I am me.
I am capable of listening to human beings and forming my own judgement.
No-one can incite me to hatred.
My children only exist because of some of the worst hatred in recent history. Their grandparents were driven from their homes and came here as a result of hatred in their countries as children as refugees. My kids generation are lucky to grow up in a country not dominated by fear and hate. I am not disturbing that peace.
I hear women being driven to anger. I hear you being driven to anger. This is untenable. Please choose to stop.
Choose peace.

Well that was a fantastic night. Cheers to the transactivists- I bet the drinks were cheaper than they would have been in the Mercure!

TripleRainbow · 13/04/2018 00:07

Great to hear it went so well Wine

I see the hotel hastily deleted their inflammatory and libellous Tweet. Foolish behaviour on their part.

Link to the piece on BBC Wales Today, it starts around 11:40.

I hope that everyone had a good time in Cardiff. Certainly the Tweeting suggested that it went very well.

As for the hiccup this afternoon, thankfully another venue was available so all was well. Beyond that the publicity it has genegated and will generate might be priceless.

Great to actually meet some MNers in the flesh, plus two big shout outs for MN. And thanks to the lovely MNer that ferried us around in her car!

I enjoyed it, but, not coming from a left-wing stance, some of the left wing politics left me cold - I didn't go along to hear about the evils of the Patriarchy. The choir were great.

QueenOfQuacks · 13/04/2018 00:36

That was AMAZING.

Thank you Flowers to the speakers and the organisers (I know some of you are reading this!). It was inspirational and informative and a real pleasure to attend.

I even made it to the pub for a nice gin and tonic like a Real Grown Up Grin

Mumsnet got a mention or two at the end when attendees could speak!

Truscum · 13/04/2018 01:25

Glad to see the meeting was another success (and thanks to the TRA’s has peaked what seems to be quite a few more people on sm)

And oh look, another post claiming that as I believe that ‘trans’ should only apply to someone with diagnosed gender dysphoria, and has attempted to alter their obviously sexed body parts with hormones/surgery, that I must be ‘old’ and ‘clinging on’.

Damn right I’m clinging on.

I won’t let cross dressing fetishists and MRA’s use people like me to get their own way over women.

Transvestites don’t hate their own body, they don’t want to alter it in any way, why do they suddenly count as ‘trans’?

Why is every Tom, Dick and Harry now just as deserving of ‘special treatment’ (Let’s face it, that’s what this kind of person thinks of any steps taken to correct inequality faced by women/disability/race/LGB/T)

Kalikan · 13/04/2018 01:40

That was a fantastic evening, thanks to everyone for pulling out all the stops to make sure it went ahead despite the efforts to silence us - I met up with old friends I'd really not expected to see there, & made some wonderful new connections. The most unexpected conversations I had all evening were with a couple of people who'd gone along (separately) having only previously heard damning reports of what WPUK are about, who were both pleasantly surprised to discover that there'd been no truth to what they'd been warned to expect, and both ended up in the pub with us afterwards... It feels good to end the day feeling this inspired Smile Smile Smile

Pythagonal · 13/04/2018 01:48

@truscum, you may have just outed yourself with that post, you may want to get it deleted and repost without reference to 'old' and 'clinging on'? Happy to have this comment deleted too.

yetanothertranswoman · 13/04/2018 07:36

With all due respect it doesn't surprise me that the only trans women well regarded on this forum, are the ones that the vast majority of trans women disagree with, and are not welcome to join in trans groups, because they are only interested in advocating for themselves

The trans groups that I have seen seem to be full of cross dressers. Who just do it for the weekend.

I have nothing in common with such people - I know that when I have been to those groups, I can't relate to them.

It's not a case of not being welcome to join - it's a case of not relating to the group

Kneedeepinunicorns · 13/04/2018 07:53

The difference in approach has been sometimes explained as identifying as a woman compared to identifying with women. The trans MNetter regulars are interested in and support the interests of women and girls as a group they identify with and have emotional connection to as a group, as oppose to the emotional focus being to colonise and subordinate, while rejecting the feelings of women and girls.

ReluctantCamper · 13/04/2018 08:14

very interesting comment from Lucy Massoud on twitter that Women's PLace are seeking legal advice regarding the libellous tweet that the Mercure put up explaining why they'd cancelled the booking.

If Women's Place sue the Mercure that would indeed be interesting times. I know I'd contribute to a crowdfunder for that.

Melamin · 13/04/2018 08:25

I would be surprised if they did not seek legal advice. It is one thing to cancel a booking at short notice but to announce it publicly and link it to bigotry and racism is not wise in a situation where this sort of accusation has big consequences.

LangCleg · 13/04/2018 08:32

I would also contribute to any crowdfunder set up by WPUK.

Glad to see the meeting went ahead and all the tweets from it were so positive and energised.

MsBeaujangles · 13/04/2018 08:34

I wonder what the legal position is in refusing to provide a service to WPUK.

Are organisations allowed to pick and choose who is able to access their provision?

I would be horrified if they denied a trans advocacy group from using their provision!

boatyardblues · 13/04/2018 08:41

I would also chip in to a Crowd Funder. This has gone too far. You cannot have a functioning democracy when half the population is unable to debate freely proposed legislative changes that affect them.

forgettingnames · 13/04/2018 09:25

Yes, I wonder about this. Surely this attempt to silence women (and it is predominantly women) from organising politically and meeting and speaking about issues that affect them is illegal harassment and discrimination against a protected group? Can't action be taken?

CisMyArse · 13/04/2018 09:45

Wonderful evening although sadly had to dash off minutes before the end.

I was itching to make my politically homeless statement and suggest that WPUK could really start pushing for this.

I'm also hoping for a Swansea meeting- I'd help promote itGrin

I'd contribute to a crowdfunder.

Crowdfunding feminist legal battles is my new favourite hobby

Kneedeepinunicorns · 13/04/2018 10:22

Different view points are neither spin nor denigration, nor propaganda. Simply another view or interpretation of the same information, that's what discussion is based on.

It isn't women with concerns about self ID that are wanting all conversation and discussion about matters that significantly affect them to be prevented.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 13/04/2018 10:26

#TGLWGH. Reported.

MsBeaujangles · 13/04/2018 10:32

@crispbutty. Your post seems to me to be full of projection.

The bottom line for many (perhaps most) feminist writers on here:
People are born male or female and will remain that way for the rest of their lives
People can have what ever gender identity they like
Sex and gender identity need to be decoupled so we eradicate notions on gender conformity/ non conformity
Gender identity needs to be a protected characteristic because disadvantage and discrimination is experienced as a result of gender identity
Sex needs to be a protected characteristic because disadvantage and discrimination is experienced as a result of sex.
Activist should be able to campaign for rights associated with gender identity. Activist should be able to campaign for rights associated with sex.

There. Simple, straight forward. No conflation, manipulation, contradiction.

You can agree, disagree. All views are welcome on this board, except those that incite hatred, discrimination or seem to have the intent to goad or upset.
