Its pretty bland. It doesn't touch on any other aspects of the GRA, and there are supportive comments from a female weightlifter, ( who is probably watching her back).

There are the usual "Oh , serves the feminists right - they wanted equality!" comments on the story starting up Hmm.

I have commented on DM articles like this before, but my comments don't go up. Does anyone else want to try?

Laurel Hubbard clearly appearing to throw the last event is what peak transed me.
Following thread but no comments as I cannot go high right now on this.

Pratchet · 08/04/2018 20:03

Last event in a previous competition Mallorie?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 08/04/2018 20:25

I hope it gets LOTS of attention.

Many fathers will be saying WFT

Mrsbadger77 · 08/04/2018 20:46

I'm loving that you are drawing attention to this and other issues and informing people like me of how much women's rights are being eroded.

Please tell me what is meant by 'peak trans moment' ?

Notwellbitch · 08/04/2018 21:16

Laurel Hubbard clearly appearing to throw the last event is what peak transed me.

Oh is that the event referenced in the BBC article that he is now using as evidence that he has no advantage over females? Does seem convenient alright

Valanice1989 · 08/04/2018 21:31

To say that he can't have an advantage because he didn't win the world championships is ridiculous, anyway. It's like cheating on an exam and saying, "Yes, I may have sneaked a glance at my neighbour's paper a few times, but I still didn't get the highest grade in my class, so it clearly didn't give me an unfair advantage."

Pratchet · 08/04/2018 21:31

If he gets a silver medal it's a woman's medal and if he gets a bronze medal it's a woman's medal. If he gets any medal it's a woman off the podium.

MallorieArcher · 08/04/2018 21:56

Yes, Sarah Robles, who won, is a weightlifter I have been following a d fangirled over, so I was very aware of the story then. I have transwomen as friends and hadn't thought much about it as all my opinions were based on them, and how they were considerate and non intrusive, and clearly wanted to pass as women. This event made me realise that right now this does not represent all transwomen, and especially not those in the public eye, and I just got more angry from there at women's rights and opinions being silenced and eroded by this.
Also then drugs being given to children to halt puberty peak transed a few of my friends.

Pratchet · 08/04/2018 23:18

Well he lifted 258 kg when he beat the actual world champion so let's see what happens

TinklyLittleLaugh · 09/04/2018 00:06

Recently had a horrible row with DH over the whole trans thing with lovely inclusive DH. And DS1 called me a bigot and he was only half joking.

But Laurel Hubbard has instantly peak transed them both. DH is all "Bloody hell you are right, unscrupulous people will take advantage." DS says Hubbard is "stone cold cheating".

I really think the tide is turning.

Nextloorejext · 09/04/2018 01:05

I’ve seen a few say thatcas Hubbard was beaten by a woman then it proves they have no advantage. It’s obvious most were just men having a laugh at women being put in their place.

StrangeLookingParasite · 09/04/2018 07:40

And this person withdrew "with an injury".

Juells · 09/04/2018 08:07

I call bullshit!

I love the pussyfooting around that these two commentators are doing before the competition - they can't come straight out and say "What a fucking cheat", but they certainly manage to make their opinions known.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/04/2018 08:22

Looks like that page is being updated. It's reporting Hubbard withdrew with an injury.

Transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard has pulled out of competition on the Gold Coast in eventful scenes.

Hubbard, the gold medal favourite, initially blew the competition away in the first discipline of the women’s over 90kg weightlifting.

Hubbard received treatment from a physiotherapist but was unable to take part in the clean and jerk, denying her chance at a medal.

Juells · 09/04/2018 08:24

Sorry, I should have mentioned to scroll down to the section about the injury. It's the fourth item down at the moment, but will probably drift further down as new results come in.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/04/2018 08:27

While I can't believe Hubbard doesn't know full well competing is unfair on women, I think the focus should be on the rules which allow transwomen to compete in women's sports. We need to get back to a clear distinction between gender and sex, and that sports are segregated by sex not gender.

There are many people who have medical or psychological issues which prevent them participating in the activities or professions they love. I don't see how being transgender fundamentally differs from these.

Fairenuff · 09/04/2018 08:37

This is one of things that needs to be properly discussed at the highest level.

I will link the thread with the petition here in case there is anyone that hasn't seen/signed it.

Details here

Juells · 09/04/2018 08:38

The virtue-signalling of wanting her to be the flag-bearer!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/04/2018 08:58

I am not an expert in weightlifting at all, but I wonder if although Hubbard can outlift any woman on pure strength, Hubbard's age makes them more prone to injury?

MallorieArcher · 09/04/2018 09:13

No other athlete shines as bright a beacon for inspiration and equality as Hubbard,” Shannon wrote.

“And no other athlete at these Games is as important, given the gradual fight for LGBT rights in and outside of sport.”

Are you fucking kidding me.
I'm not inspired by a person with the body and muscle mass of a man my age lifting more weight than me (and yes, injury is much more likely)
I'm inspired by the women my age showing me what I could be capable of, but there aren't any at the commonwealth games because older women usually can't lift as much as younger women.
The fact that LH immediately started snatching at 120kg, a weight the others couldn't start at, shows the difference. The current commonwealth record for that is 125kg. (Olympic is higher because Russia and China...)
LH was going for the commonwealth record with no effort before the injury (and it looked like a proper injury tbf, I hope they're ok)
Would they have declared LH the commonwealth women's record holder? Because that's bullshit.

Fairenuff · 09/04/2018 09:22

The latest dm report has similar comments from people saying that it was never a fair competition.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/04/2018 09:37

Mr Marshall said Hubbard's testosterone is lower than a normal female's, and that she has met all requirements.

Which shows clearly that the 'requirements' at the moment are wrong. Women's sports should be for people with XX chromosomes, plus some intersex (who probably need individual assessment and are nothing to to with the case of XY transgender men).

CisPinkHoodie · 09/04/2018 09:37

Mallorie

Too right

It's such bullshit

Inspiring to whom? What rights does Hubbard lack?

CisPinkHoodie · 09/04/2018 09:40

Hubbard's testosterone levels were high enough at some point to make Hubbard lose Hubbard's hair. I'd hazard a guess through male pattern baldness.

Milvusmilvus · 09/04/2018 10:08

To take this issue a bit further.
If a TW takes part in a team sport such as rowing or rugby and then they win and break records etc, the rest of the women are likely to face the backlash aren't they?
