Its pretty bland. It doesn't touch on any other aspects of the GRA, and there are supportive comments from a female weightlifter, ( who is probably watching her back).

There are the usual "Oh , serves the feminists right - they wanted equality!" comments on the story starting up Hmm.

I have commented on DM articles like this before, but my comments don't go up. Does anyone else want to try?

The smug victory on his face in this picture.

gendertrender.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/laurel-hubbard-61.jpg

Hubbard responded to the loss of his authority by funding a new state-of-the-art weightlifting facility to host and sponsor the OWNZ competition itself. OWNZ then authorized the women’s competition that Hubbard won on Sunday March 19 at the Australasion Championships in Melbourne.OWNZ cited IOC guidelines for transgenderism, which allow any male who can prove his testosterone levels are 10 nmol/L or below for one year duration to compete in the women’s division.

I wonder how/if the BBC will cover this particular event.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 06/04/2018 19:06

Is this event happening over the weekend?

Elendon · 06/04/2018 19:06

There is a racial element to this too. But I suspect that this post will also be deleted.

Juells · 06/04/2018 19:09

4 o'clock Monday AFAICS

Mner · 06/04/2018 21:12

Elendon pink shoes though Hmm

This is brilliant.... and I hate to say it but what a difference it is going to make having senior men in sport (like the Aussie) speaking out against this.... About time someone beyond the brave Brazilian female basketball (was it, who wrote to the Olympic committee ) wrote and talked about how unfair it is

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/04/2018 10:58

An update on this story today:

www.news.com.au/sport/commonwealth-games/games-ticking-time-bomb-explodes-as-rival-nation-protests-transgender-weightlifters-presence/news-story/4b2a53fbd236bc63ef1e45d91de5acd6

The outcome of this will be interesting:

"Rival federations, however, are up in arms with pacific nation representatives on Sunday launching a final public call for Hubbard to be banned."

LapdanceShoeshine · 08/04/2018 12:22

I’m hoping Hubbard will compete, & win, & then the entire “Commonwealth” will be peak transed Grin

Fairenuff · 08/04/2018 12:38

How can people not see the unfairness?

It's the Emperor's New Clothes isn't it.

Testosterone levels are not the only advantage men have over women in sport.

Indeed

Pratchet · 08/04/2018 12:58

This lad identified as a girl with no treatment at all, entered the girls' races and won them all.

Surely it must make a difference in cycling when your legs muscles are so much bigger? I'm no expert but it doesn't look like a fair win to me. Not unless there was some other handicap that the photo doesn't show.

How has anyone in these organisations not noticed that these mostly middle aged transwomen who are suddenly beating women in these events were nobodies in the men's category?

It's so ridiculously obvious that it's unfair. Whether you buy into the trans agenda or not. Why are people so afraid to say no to these men?

misscockerspaniel · 08/04/2018 14:27

www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/11/24/backlash-as-transgender-weightlifter-qualifies-for-womens-category-at-commonwealth-games/

This in an interesting article. The NZ president of Olympic Weightlifting is quoted as saying that LH has retained their strength despite having a reduced testosterone level.

What I also find telling is that LH appears to be quite a lot older than the women taking part. In the women's weightlifting I watched on the BBC's coverage yesterday, they were teenagers or in their 20's. LH is 40 years old.

Juells · 08/04/2018 14:40

To a certain extent I do blame the coaches and the competing women. Why don't the female athletes organise and boycott these events? I can see how annoying it would be if you've worked for years to get to a certain level for a certain competition, but the present situation is just bullshit.

Those trans athletes have no fucking shame.

Badweekjustgotworse · 08/04/2018 15:02

Don’t know if this has been suggested before but here goes...

How about if a female athelete were to identify themselves as non binary (which falls under the trans umbrella) and claimed to be be trigggered by a hyper feminine hormone profile and took just enough T to androgenyse themselves so their testosterone levels was higher than that allowed for a born female but below the allowed level of 10n/mol for male to female trans. since they didn’t identify as female to male and didn’t pursue any surgery or other treatment they could argue they should still be treated as biologically female albeit with an outwardly non binary gender presentation and there expect to be allowed to compete in the female category.

That would be one to watch, there’d be an absolute outrage from every camp and then surely the non logic of the whole feckin thing would slap everyone in the face?

Juells · 08/04/2018 15:05

Why can't women athletes demand parity of testosterone levels if competing against a trans athlete?

Trumpdump · 08/04/2018 15:09

I think the women are probably advised against making a fuss Sad

Juells · 08/04/2018 15:14

Don't make a fuss, you might upset someone. Imagine how male athletes would feel if someone pulled this kind of gaslighting shit on them?

Saw a good expression somewhere today..."don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining".

loveyouradvice · 08/04/2018 15:14

juells This is what I don't understand either - apart from the very eloquent letter to the IoC from a Brazilian female basketball player, NO ONE is campaigning - You would have thought there would be a huge petition from female athletes and their (often male) trainers. Only now do we get the Aussie head of their federation speaking out.

Like others I hope they win - as it would peak trans lots of people.

Interesting that it was only last year that rules were relaxed - so in 12 months or so, already significant of trans athletes winning.... where will we be in 10 years?

And what would be fair? People are starting to grapple with that....

  • Looking to para-olympics for possible models - possibly a separate trans category?
  • Looking to Germany - separate awards for trans/natal?
  • My instinct: keep those born male competing together, with transwoman getting "own" medal... and ditto those born female .... otherwise, huge numbers of girls will be turned off sport: German model I think has separate medal for natal women/ transwomen but they compete in same category - so you would always feel you were "runner up"....

WHATEVER HAPPENS IoC needs to be held to account - my understanding is that it was a TINY study of less than 20 people that led them to set the levels as they did, without any thoughts about the unintended consequences.....

R0wantrees · 08/04/2018 15:24

isn't this yet another case of 'educating those girls / women' who question... or rather silence those girls /women who may have reason to question?

CAAKE · 08/04/2018 15:38

There are some articles coming out - it seems to be ramping up now that the event is close:

Exactly. Rush to appear progressive. Endless unintended consequences.
