Dibbosteme
At least some good will come from the appalling ordeal suffered by the victim.

Alsross · 24/04/2018 21:24

I posted this link a week or so ago but I thought I'd share again in case you'd missed it. It goes along with what you ladies have been talking about. I just don't know how we go about fixing things.
"Female price of male pleasure".

Dibbosteme · 24/04/2018 21:47

Let's hope so Eloise. As it becomes apparent that at present PJ and SO are not exactly inundated with offers from other clubs, the law of unintended consequences is alive and kicking.

peanut2017 · 25/04/2018 22:30

@ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo that's an excellent point about men actually thinking of themselves in that situation instead of their wife, mother, sister etc

peanut2017 · 25/04/2018 22:32

@Dibbosteme my interpretation of the review is that it's more looking at the anonymity side of things for the accused like we have in the Republic of Ireland

I thought this was a very interesting article on some of the issues around consent from a linguistic point of view.
essentially the least powerful person in a situation is held to the highest standards of clarity, in the eyes of the law even though “for those who are relatively powerless, there’s a vested interest in staying polite, staying safe, and complying with directions, and so people in these fraught situations tend to be even more linguistically indirect and sound more uncertain“

Annwithnoe · 26/04/2018 00:05

I’m uneasy with the suggestion that men shrug off sexual abuse and rape. The effects on male children and teens are profound.
Perhaps the way in which men process these events are different? some therapists will tend to sit to the side of a male patient rather than directly in front, or walk together and talk. And the men’s shed movement suggests that men deal with issues by working. I don’t think therapy, counseling and even the language we use around rape is not as accessible to men, maybe? And perhaps also, abuse gets channeled into anger and violence? Just musing really. But I’m very uneasy with the idea that it would have no effect.

I do think that many men’s understanding of rape (of women) is that it is a bad sexual experience, but they don’t grasp that there can be an immense threat of physical injury or death that goes along side the act.

Annwithnoe · 26/04/2018 00:21

That article is extremely thought provoking alsross

gluteustothemaximus · 26/04/2018 23:59

Have you been reading about the gang rape in Spain? A young 18 year old, raped by 5 men. They filmed it. The lawyer for the men said she didn’t resist, therefore the men felt they had consent 😡

They are going to prison, but not for rape, but sexual abuse. Protests have started.

What with that and Bill Cosby.

Fucking sick of the sexual violence against women. We have had enough. And if we’re all special snowflakes, bring on the fucking avalanche.

thebewilderness · 27/04/2018 02:17

Most men and boys will say right out loud that that is what girls and women are for.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 27/04/2018 06:58

thebewilderness - Terry Crews has been speaking out about that very attitude. Video here

peanut2017 · 27/04/2018 20:02

@gluteustothemaximus didn't hear about this. I'm so fucking sick of all this abuse towards women. Every day it's something else. In Ireland a recent case were girls were raped several times by the son of their foster parents. Even when they told their biological mother and it was looked into they were sent back to the same family!!

What the actual fuck is going on??

Then all this shite about these Incel fuckers who seem like sad assholes.

Where does it end?

More women referring themselves to Nexus ( a charity that supports victims of sexual abuse/attack/rape) but they now have a waiting list of 700 women needing various levels of counselling and no way to provide that support in a timely manner.

eloisesparkle · 02/05/2018 07:18

Apparently PJ is off to Sale Sharks with SO set to follow.

kikashi · 02/05/2018 12:20

Will they be on large salaries (200 + etc like some of the players in premiership) ? I'm surprised an English team would have them (sort of)

Totallymyownperson · 02/05/2018 12:52

That disgusting that any club still wants them. And they want both.

Glad BBC won its case.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 02/05/2018 13:00

kikashi

I would be astonished if they were earning anywhere close to what they were on before.

kikashi · 02/05/2018 13:55

Danny Cipriani gets paid £310k by Sale - he is their top paid player. There is a cap on academy players getting more then £100k in the Aviva premiership. An old article from a few years back says the average premiership Rugby player makes £81k a year. So who knows? Just hate to think they will still be raking money in and being feted.

Wonder how the women of Manchester feel about this! I wonder how Sale supporters feel about this...

If I was them I'd not be a happy bunny.

Totallymyownperson · 02/05/2018 14:30

Sale sharks are in Cheshire. I doubt the women of Cheshire care much as they already put up with footballing misogynistic twats

GrainneWail · 02/05/2018 16:17

I saw a report this morning that PJ will be on €220k, down 50k from Ulster but clearly not the breadline Hmm Irish Times

buckeejit · 02/05/2018 16:26

Ugh, I used to live in Manchester near Sale & friend works for Women's aid there. Disappointing & I find it a bit odd that they're going as a pair.

Totallymyownperson · 02/05/2018 16:39

A man has started a petition to sto them going to sale.www.change.org/p/georgina-ragan-salesharks-com-sale-sharks-don-t-sign-paddy-jackson-stuart-olding
