R4's Any Questions talked about transwomen in women's spaces. Tomorrow is Any Questions. They usually respond to caller demand. Let's bombard them with calls. I am not the most informed but I am sure some of you have a lot to say. It starts at 2.30pm tomorrow

03700 100 444
To have your say on the issues discussed on Any Questions? Call: 03700 100 444 (Calls will cost no more than calls to 01 and 02 geographic landlines.

You can also send an email

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qmmy/contact

If anything it will show the producers how important this issue is.

I won’t be around so can’t do it, but it’s a brilliant idea.

Also Question Time was on R4 tonight at 8pm and it’s repeated tomorrow afternoon followed by Any Answers at 2.30.
So it will be on Iplayer sometime tonight, if anyone wants to get prepared.

hipsterfun · 23/03/2018 22:13

It was unsettling to hear Diane Abbott on Any Questions? proclaiming that trans women are women.

I’m a woman. I reject the label cis woman.

Trans women are not women, and I wish people would stop saying that they are.

2rebecca · 23/03/2018 22:20

Do you expect a sensible answer to anything from Diane Abbott though?

2rebecca · 23/03/2018 22:25

I am turning in to a Tory, it's very depressing but the anti-woman views of the left and the BBC and Guardian have really disappointed me. It isn't co-incidence that th BBC covered up/ turned a blind eye to the abuse of young women by men like Jimmy Saville on TOTP and they are now happy to support men impersonating women over real women.

AreYouTerfEnough · 23/03/2018 22:25

I can email them.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 23/03/2018 22:52

Do you have to be around for the show or are the questions pre-recorded? I can’t remember, haven’t listened in ages.

UpstartCrow · 23/03/2018 22:58

I tried sending an email but the web form wouldn't send, so I'm going to text.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 23/03/2018 23:07

Same here Upstart.

nauticant · 23/03/2018 23:12

CircleSquareCircleSquare, the phonecalls on Any Answers are live but they do also read out short excerpts from emails. If you do email you'll need something punchy and clear. If it's an Anita Anand edition of the show, she might be sympathetic, a couple of years back she wrote Sophia: Princess, Suffragette, Revolutionary. But as part of the BBC liberal establishment, don't be surprised if she takes pride in being very woke.

MrsWooster · 23/03/2018 23:17

I just sent an email. The 'captcha' device is broken so i just typed in xxxxxx to see what would happen and it worked!

MrsWooster · 23/03/2018 23:18

Email was as follows: Responding to the comment that "transwomen are women": given that this is a statement that many people may not accept, why will the government not consult more widely before potentially making changes to equality legislation that will allow trans people to self identify and access what were previously single SEX (not gender) spaces?

UpstartCrow · 23/03/2018 23:25

How the fuck can the captcha be broken?

OldBlueStitches · 23/03/2018 23:32

I can't get capatcha working. Annoying because I'm abroad bd can't text and don't want to tweet. Some guy is already on twitter talking about how we view trans kids as a threats. It's a bit of a tweet essay so hope it's not read out.

MrsWooster · 23/03/2018 23:33

Captcha says it needs upgrading. Try any old five letters?

OldBlueStitches · 23/03/2018 23:35

Oh it seems to have gone through. It's probably too long too!

"Being a trans person must be incredibly difficult. That doesn’t mean biological sex can change. Gender, yes. Appearance, yes. But not sex. Maybe trans people deserve their own safe space. Run by other trans people, or allies, who understand the specific difficulties they have. The average woman, for example, hasn’t grown up in a boy’s body and had to transition. The average woman doesn’t know what it’s like to have to live with male genitalia, a breaking voice etc. The experiences are very different, so let women have their spaces and trans people have their own."

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 23/03/2018 23:36

I’ve sent a few questions in, as has my DH.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 23/03/2018 23:37

Responding the constant comments on Question Time this week of "transwomen are women" please define what a woman is and why someone who is a born male can appropriate the female struggle and experience?

OldBlueStitches · 23/03/2018 23:43

Really frustrating- only one confirmation email. Trying to send more but they don't seem to be going through.

OldBlueStitches · 23/03/2018 23:45

I may have sent this too:

"Re transwomen and women’s only spaces:
Most people don’t realise that trans does not mean going through gender reassignment surgery. It literally means a person with a fully functioning male body, sporting a beard, dressed in men’s clothes can say they’re a woman and that means they are. If you query that, you’re transphobic."

Terftastic · 23/03/2018 23:46

I am turning in to a Tory, it's very depressing but the anti-woman views of the left and the BBC and Guardian have really disappointed me

Do you know, I'm feeling the same. I'm so bloody sick of the left being all about "equality" (apparently) but in reality shitting on women.

I've always been a lefty, but everything about them is starting to annoy me now. Women are simply not taken seriously. Told we have to put everyone else fist.

Why have labour never had a woman leader? Why is there so much misogyny allowed in the Labour Party and in grass-root LW orgs like Momentum and SWP?

Gah - sick of it. And the whole trans thing has brought me closer to "Conservative Woman" than I ever thought possible.

Regressionconfession · 24/03/2018 00:25

Another one who is struggling to get any through using the email function. I've started texting them through instead. Can anyone whose more familiar with the show advise as to whether statements or questions are more likely to be aired?

DJLippy · 24/03/2018 05:33

Great response ladies @oldbluestitches that's so well put, couldn't have put it better myself! - on both counts

Even if it doesn't get air time hopefully somebody up there in the darling bubble will take note.

Also - have we crashed their system Shock

OldBlueStitches · 24/03/2018 05:48

Thanks DJ.
@Regressionconfession this part of the show is the public having a say to the questions put to the panel yesterday. So a response to the question about women’s spaces at the top of this tread or trans related will have a chance of being read out.

You can also phone up.

I would bet that there will be PLENTY of a certain type of trans person calling up and if one of us do we’ll be put together to talk to them.

It would be brilliant someone who had surgery years ago phoned up to detail why the activists are not actually making life better for them. About how if you want to live as a woman then you just get on and do it - otherwise you’re shouting out that you’re NOT a woman! If these points came from someone who couldn’t so easily be labeled a TERF it would be brilliant.

OldBlueStitches · 24/03/2018 06:11

btw I'm not suggesting we need someone to speak on our behalf! More that in a short programme that voice would definitely get put on and would probably be quite a surprise for the unsuspecting listener.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 24/03/2018 06:36

I tweeted them. Probably will open myself up to inline abuse but I'm pretty liberal with the block button.
