R4's Any Questions talked about transwomen in women's spaces. Tomorrow is Any Questions. They usually respond to caller demand. Let's bombard them with calls. I am not the most informed but I am sure some of you have a lot to say. It starts at 2.30pm tomorrow

03700 100 444
To have your say on the issues discussed on Any Questions? Call: 03700 100 444 (Calls will cost no more than calls to 01 and 02 geographic landlines.

You can also send an email

If anything it will show the producers how important this issue is.

Just listening now to any answers, so far two trans wittering on at huge length, nothing about the actual question! Infuriating.

nauticant · 24/03/2018 14:21

Nicola Williams!

hipsterfun · 24/03/2018 14:22

Anita taking pains to say how many angry and potentially hurtful messages they have received Hmm

RoderickRules · 24/03/2018 14:23

Come on Nicola!

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 24/03/2018 14:23

Ooh just catching some of this!
Will listen to the whole thing later.

officerhinrika · 24/03/2018 14:29

Well this is balanced.....

borntobequiet · 24/03/2018 14:29

I too got a call re my email. However I see that once again women are being crowded out by transwomen. What a surprise.
But well done Nicola, whoever you are.

nauticant · 24/03/2018 14:29

On balance, I think Anita Anand might lean slightly towards the gender critical side.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 24/03/2018 14:29

Anita taking pains to say how many angry and potentially hurtful messages they have received hmm

Feelings over facts!

Helmetbymidnight · 24/03/2018 14:30

Presenter is doing a good job I think.

This mother is pretending that people think all trans (with a penis) are sexual predators. Sigh.

Some great contributors. Well done.

mooncuplanding · 24/03/2018 14:30

I am turning in to a Tory, it's very depressing but the anti-woman views of the left and the BBC and Guardian have really disappointed me

I feel the same about the left, but I don't think I am right wing - I am a just liberal. If the Liberal Democrats could get their arse in gear, they could mop up

nauticant · 24/03/2018 14:34

I think Anita Anand referred to the "angry and potentially hurtful messages they have received" as an attempt wear a bit of Teflon to avoid accusations of transphobia. I was struck by how strongly GC the last caller was.

Datun · 24/03/2018 14:34

I called in, they didn't get to me.

As Nic says, so much misinformation. If I hear one more time that I think a 7-year-old is a predator, I will go mad.

And what about the girls in that scenario?

And rapists will rape?

Could the bar get any bloody lower?

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 24/03/2018 14:35

Does anyone know how long it generally takes Any Answers to be available on iPlayer?

Poppyred85 · 24/03/2018 14:37

Argh that was infuriating and rather one sided. The sarcasm of the transwoman (I think named Vicky) saying Paris Lees is the only trans person in the media on this...except India Willoghby, Shon Faye, Lily Madigan....and that women are allowed to talk as much as they like about it (especially the Woman’s Hour comment after all the shit Jenni Murray got)! Well done to Nicola and the lady at the end- didn’t catch her name. Actually wish I hadn’t listened as back to feeling frustrated and sad that so few people really engage with the issues.

ReluctantCamper · 24/03/2018 14:39

Well, that last caller was me, so bearing in mind that I've been radicalised by you bunch of vipers it's not surprising.

hipsterfun · 24/03/2018 14:39

And rapists will rape?

I know! I mean, abusers will abuse and the system can’t be 100%, so why bother with DBS checks, if that’s the argument?

Poppyred85 · 24/03/2018 14:40

Datun would have been amazing to hear you. I was listening wondering if any MN regulars would be on!

Ekphrasis · 24/03/2018 14:40

Well done @ReluctantCamper!

hipsterfun · 24/03/2018 14:40

Good job, Camper Gin

nauticant · 24/03/2018 14:40

The interesting thing about Nicola Williams' contribution is how hard it is to explain properly what is going on to an uninformed audience who want a clear and easy answer of what to think.

Even though she took great care I couldn't imagine the average listener getting to grips with it. It is far far easier for trans allies to deploy their human shields of trans children and harmless sounding trans people, and to leave hanging in the air the question "do you really want to be a meanie?"

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 24/03/2018 14:40

Fucking Alexa must be a TRA, I was trying to listen but she switched that off half way through. Thank gawd DH keeps a battery Roberts Radio in the kitchen or I wouldn’t have a clue what just happened. I think the presenter was ok actually. And whilst I have every sympathy with parents like Helen, it makes my blood boil every time I hear ‘Oh come on, how many men are actually going to go to the trouble of taking advantage?’ Arrrrrrgh, THEY ALREADY HAVE! Well done Nicola, and whoever was on at the end?

niceberg · 24/03/2018 14:41

Well done reluctant you were very good indeed.

Poppyred85 · 24/03/2018 14:41

Brava Reluctant you were great. I was shaky just listening.

Helmetbymidnight · 24/03/2018 14:42

I thought the GC women did a very good job.

The old fella came across as someone who didn't know what he was talking about. 'I don't want to use the men's loos, but how dare you get annoyed about me in yours'. [not his actual words] He had not for one moment considered a woman's perspective, ever.

The mother suggesting that, It doesn't matter if you make it really easy for rapists because hey, they will rape anyway? Not many people will agree with that I don't think.
