R4's Any Questions talked about transwomen in women's spaces. Tomorrow is Any Questions. They usually respond to caller demand. Let's bombard them with calls. I am not the most informed but I am sure some of you have a lot to say. It starts at 2.30pm tomorrow

To have your say on the issues discussed on Any Questions? Call: 03700 100 444 (Calls will cost no more than calls to 01 and 02 geographic landlines.

Has she

I just listened to AA and thought the voices from "our side" were brilliant. Well done. Also well done to Anita Annand for having the guts,to finish on a GC voice, in defiance of the current overwhelming narrative.
As for JK, the link above says the tweet-like still remains... Maybe she is signalling that her PR people can fuck right off with their sexist ageist bullshittery?

mypoosmellsofroses · 25/03/2018 10:24

I thought Helen was being somewhat disingenuous with her choice of language about her child, repetition of their being "just a child" "just want to play with their friends" etc when the child is 14 not 4! She may wish to believe that her child's chosen identity has nothing at all to do with their sexual feelings, but newsflash, 14 year olds whatever their orientation or preferences, are sexual beings and no, not automatically predatory, just felt the way that she brought it up , not that they were not posing a risk but almost seemed to be forcefully rejecting any kind of sexual element by the emphasis of the word child.
Not explaining this very well sorry, just felt something was a bit off about it. She just seemed very keen to infantilise her child, made me wonder if this is a case of "They're not gay, they're trans"

boatyardblues · 25/03/2018 11:33

I also thought she was being disingenuous when the recent Guiding thread pointed out that a 15 year old TIM could be put in overnight accommodation with 11 and 12 year old girls.

boatyardblues · 25/03/2018 11:34

A self-identifying one at that.

TerfsUp · 25/03/2018 17:55

That makes me shudder.

hipsterfun · 25/03/2018 19:22

It’s never occurred to me to take the concept of sex segregation as a slur on male people in general, and neither do the overwhelming majority of male people. It’s surely a variant of the same thing.

Datun · 25/03/2018 20:01

Is Helen Minnymum? From Twitter?

Mermaids marketing officer?

DJLippy · 25/03/2018 21:10

@Datun

If that is the case can we complain to the BBC? That doesn't sound O.K...

It might well be that Any Answers knew (if indeed it was that Helen), but chose not to say. Unless I missed it for a few seconds, I was a bit surprised that Nicola was introduced as just 'Nicola Williams' and her town, rather than with title and position - she hadn't concealed who she was from the program, as she was very open on Twitter (@ing them in) about getting them to allow her to speak. It made me think that this was Any Answers' decision.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 26/03/2018 07:21

The caller with a trans child (was it Helen?) seemed to be referring to things that were never said or even inferred on the programme. Anita Annand did call her out on it though.

HomeTerf · 26/03/2018 09:06

Did Helen say that she had a son? Which would be, factually, a daughter? And was her whole point that her child wasn't a rapist?

Ereshkigal · 26/03/2018 09:22

Comedian?! Can’t imagine Shon smiling, never mind doing comedy.

Apparently Shon reads out Mumsnet comments, to hilarious effect.

hipsterfun · 26/03/2018 09:38

It’s a bit tragic that he needs the material Grin

Daff0dil · 26/03/2018 10:01

(Have NC)I've no idea what role Helen ( mimmymum ) has at Mermaids, her tweets and replies are very concerning though seen.... especially given the account's likely audience.

TerfsUp · 26/03/2018 10:12

Apparently Shon reads out Mumsnet comments, to hilarious effect.

Some people are easily entertained.

DJLippy · 26/03/2018 13:28

@ terfsup
Yes it would be nice if we could do the same but rape and death threats are not that funny....

If a transwoman is a woman - in what way are they the same as women if they retain their male genitalia, testosterone levels, have been socialised as men for majority of their life, mostly can be identified as men despite artifices such as wigs, make up dresses, and do not experience the same health and reproductive issues as born women.

holycheeseplant · 26/03/2018 14:53

Apparently Shon reads out Mumsnet comments, to hilarious effect.

Thus proving that Shon is not a woman.

Which women have time or inclination to to that?! Wink

TheGoldenBough · 26/03/2018 15:35

I'm not sure I expected otherwise, tbh.

RoderickRules · 26/03/2018 16:46

@holycheeseplant I think the same way re these trans’women’
Women tend not to, and wouldn’t want to berate, undermine or jeopardise the safety of other women and children.
