It’s so interesting to read the comments on the DM article.. along the lines of ‘so if I want to I can just say i’m a woman and go and hang out in their changing rooms, don’t be so ridiculous’..

It really highlights how this just isn’t even on the radar for so many people. I hope that changes and am glad to see things beginning to be reported in mainstream press , though am worried people are getting the wrong end of the stick.

Piffpaffpoff · 18/03/2018 16:36

I have signed up and also replied to some of the comments that say ‘oh shall I just rock up to the women’s swimming then’. I managed not to reply with ‘that’s the whole point you idiot’ and was a bit politer, but none of them have appeared yet.

I love all the woman love.

FlameOutTeacher · 18/03/2018 16:52

Thank you for doing this. Like many MNers I am a bleeding heart liberal on most issues but I feel like I'm witnessing some kind of mass insanity on the whole Trans issue. It actually offends me deeply that a man could simply call himself a woman and claim to understand my experience in this world. We have so little privilege as women. What little space we have carved out is being taken back from us - by men saying they are women and so they are entitled. Which sounds remarkably 'male' behaviour to me. I have genuine sympathy for men who have fully transitioned but anything less than that I cannot imagine allowing into female spaces. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe we need to halt this madness.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 18/03/2018 17:08

Twitter's loving it. It was genius to produce a leaflet to hand out to explain what they were doing.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/03/2018 17:15

There's something about motherhood that potentially pushes cis women into TERF

What did it for me, then? I'm not a mum. Is just being a "cis" woman enough to make a person eeeevil?

There's nothing narcissists hate more than being mocked, so well done, temporary chaps.

IFancyASliceOfCake · 18/03/2018 17:17

Couldn’t have said it better FlameOutTeacher

I’ve gone from Labour voting liberal feminist to ‘disgruntled with the Labour Party (and all parties blindly supporting the Trans agenda without consulting women) Rad Fem in one, single-issue swoop.

Hats off to all of you fabulous MN women. Scales have fallen from my eyes.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/03/2018 17:18

"oh, so I guess the same women will think it's fine if trans women like me use the men's pool instead where we can frolick semi-naked with their husbands & boyfriends."

This is hilarious. Yes, dear, my DH is going to be so overwhelmed with lust by the sight of your pretendy boobs and your dangly bits jammed into bikini bottoms that he just won't be able to contain himself and will immediately jump on you (and file for divorce).

AGP really does render its sufferers unable to realize what they actually look like.

IFancyASliceOfCake · 18/03/2018 17:19

And as for There's something about motherhood that potentially pushes cis women into TERF .... I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that. The lack of self awareness, the complete and so obviously MALE sense of entitlement and superiority...breathtaking!

AngryAttackKittens · 18/03/2018 17:20

IRK? I mean, lots of us get there anyway without having children, but hmm, what could it be about the experience of pregnancy and childbirth that might clue a woman in to the importance of biology? Truly it's a mystery.

woman11017 · 18/03/2018 17:20

Please join in #ManFriday if you can, just in a small way. Walk in straight lines, use men’s loos and changing rooms, take up space and manspread, tell random men on the street to “smile, love”, manspread, mansplain, repeat etc

Cool! Will go for a pie and a pint and read the paper in front of the TV in the local man pub. Grin
Looking forward to it!

boatyardblues · 18/03/2018 17:26

Cool! Will go for a pie and a pint and read the paper in front of the TV in the local man pub.

Seems I’m doing womanning all wrong because this is something I’d do anyway. Perhaps I’m non binary.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/03/2018 17:32

I think to truly man properly you need to take the paper into the toilet on a Sunday and be there for an hour.

(I'm sure there's some biological explanation for why it takes older men so long to take a shit and I'm also sure that I'll be happier not knowing what it is.)

Trilllllian · 18/03/2018 17:39

Well done ladies/gentlemen ! If I’d have known you were doing Dulwich leisure centre I might have joined you - am local.

On that note I can’t see anything on the notorious East Dulwich Forum (a den of vipers and opinionated locals par excellence) on you? I’m surprised - except everyone in Dulwich is (quite rightly) up in arms about multi billion £ venture capitalists buying the local century-old football ground :-(

YesItsADebate · 18/03/2018 18:04

I’m roaring with laughter at the transbian frolicking. I’m quite calm about the idea of DP swimming next to a ‘frolicking’ trans woman, or in fact a woman, a transman or a man. He might find the strength to resist ogling them.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/03/2018 18:07

Also most swim sessions are mixed anyway so why do they think the men would suddenly be overcome with lust at a men's only session but presumably able to contain themselves in the regular session?

Answer - they don't, they just can't resist the urge to go "nyah nyah we're better than you". Also they're petty.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/03/2018 18:08

Also frolicking in a pool sounds like a great way to drown. Please restrict your frolicking to the shallow end, dudes, because I'd rather not have to go into lifesaving mode.

Ereshkigal · 18/03/2018 18:21

I almost feel sorry for them - they're delusional.

They are. They have no self awareness or filters whatsoever.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 18/03/2018 18:31

Brilliance! Flowers Flowers Flowers

I peaked two more women this morning on the back of this. When I explained that there are people who believe that 'some women have penises' it took one of the women several minutes to stop laughing. Loving the male grumping on the comments on the Independent, that's the noise that will get heard.

I'm probably being thick but can't find it - can anyone signpost me to the leaflet that was handed out please?

YesItsADebate · 18/03/2018 18:36

Here’s the leaflet :)

Kneedeepinunicorns · 18/03/2018 18:45

Thank you! That's so to the point and clear, marvellous stuff!

transcendentphobic · 18/03/2018 18:51

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 18/03/2018 18:52

I'm absolutely loving the idea of dh going for his swim and being surrounded by flirtatious, frolicking TRAs.

I wonder how long it would take him to a. notice and b. decide what the nicest politest way to get the fuck out of dodge would be.

SuitedandBooted · 18/03/2018 18:56

Could someone post this on the Times comments please? Seems very appropriate for the article.
