This is the petition asking the government to consult with women on the proposals to enshrine gender identity in law.

Any chance we could be arrested for this?

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 13/03/2018 12:44

Arrested ? for being asked to be included in a debate on what defines a woman? No not at all, I hope no one reading thinks that either.

Sit quietly and say nothing and see female change definition in law and is a self ID issue, the yes that would be a world where arrests happen - that's what we are trying to prevent by making others aware - women and men.

defectiveinspector · 13/03/2018 12:48

Signed. It's over 3,500 now.

SweetGrapes · 13/03/2018 12:56

Arrested? Wow! I guess if that started, it would be time start chaining ourselves to the railings outside parliament.

NannyOggsKnickers · 13/03/2018 13:00

Just popped back to say I that this doesn’t seem to have any traction on Twitter yet. It needs a hashtag and to be retweeted by some big hitters.

I would but I’m a lurker and my account is linked to stuff about my family so a bit scared.

DarthArts · 13/03/2018 13:02

Anyone else seen this on twitter?

Leader of Plaid Cymru condemns A Woman's Place and this the right of a peaceful and respectful organisation (who often have trans speakers at their events) to debate changes to the GRA.

All based on the tweet of one person and clearly having done no research into the organisation.

The self-ID petition is now live!
NannyOggsKnickers · 13/03/2018 13:03

I’ve seen it darth.

I bet she’s regretting it because she having her arse handed to her in the replies.

squarecorners · 13/03/2018 13:07

Well after reading about that woman getting arrested for saying mermaids abuse children nothing is inconceivable these days. Saying you are a woman without the pejorative "cis" is probably a hate crime now.

LizzieSiddal · 13/03/2018 13:09

I saw that tweet too. I also noticed people thanking her and asking her to try to stop the womens’ meeting at the House Of Commons Angry

It’s great to see others absolutely putting Leanne right. I bloody well hope she listens.

MumOfTheMoos · 13/03/2018 13:10

I've got to say, it really annoys me when politicians have knee jerk reactions like Leanne Wood just did - it's their bloody job to think things through such as the proposed legislative changes - they should be educating themselves on a wide range of views...what else has she been doing ffs?

Corbyn this same - when he spoke on Marr he'd clearly given it about 5 seconds thought and no real grip on the issues

And Vince Cable would be the same if anyone actually cared what he thought...

Seafoodeatit · 13/03/2018 13:10

After reading what happened to posie parker I very much believe you can be arrested and/or intimidated,

BeyondDeadlySiren · 13/03/2018 13:14

Nanny, someone (here?) suggested #antiselfidnotantitrans ?
Bit long, but gets the main point across?

SweetGrapes · 13/03/2018 13:16

But after hearing about posie parker, I believe it is even more impotant for more of us to shout louder and heard by more.

Ffs, it's only debate we are asking for here! Is that really so radical? [Hmm]

Cmagic7 · 13/03/2018 13:27

Signed

SuitedandBooted · 13/03/2018 14:00

Bump

MrsBodger · 13/03/2018 14:00

Nearly 3500!

Tartyflette · 13/03/2018 14:05

Signed and shared on FB. (and getting ready to duck...)

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 13/03/2018 14:14

Oh, there are 4 of us in my constituency now! I've not checked since last night when there were just the 2 of us. 3503 when I just looked too.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/03/2018 14:17

OMG! Another in FoD [waves happily] Smile

TheGoldenBough · 13/03/2018 14:26

So I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole on Twitter (don't use it so it's never happened before!)

Anyway, I found a list of eleventy million genders...

I'm identifying as this one from now on:

Caelgender: a gender which shares qualities with outer space or has the aesthetic of space, stars, nebulas, etc.

I didn't get further through the list than Ca- but this sounds way cooler than being a boring woman..!

AttillaThePun · 13/03/2018 14:27

It's dropped off the list of popular petitions which only shows the top three, but it's actually doing pretty well.

(Link again: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118)

For comparison, the most popular petition (in terms of signatures per hour) right now is the puppy one, which is now on 88,000 signatures after 12 days. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/213451

But it took three days for it to hit 10,000 (and everyone loves puppies) and then in nine days it got over 70,000 more signatures.

Second most popular is the animal fur one, which has 97,000 signatures but has a deadline of next week: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/200888

Third most popular is the energy drinks for children one, which has almost 5,000 signatures but has been running for over a week. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214334

That said, we do need to keep sharing, as I would think that petitions on the 'popular' section get looked at more by people who have come to, say, sign a petition about puppies or energy drinks Grin

Seafoodeatit · 13/03/2018 14:37

I think in all reality it needs to hit the 100k mark for it be picked up and taken more seriously, I have a growing doubt that this will just get swept under the carpet if it doesn't get wider, louder scrutiny.

Minerva1234 · 13/03/2018 14:56

Just popped back to say I that this doesn’t seem to have any traction on Twitter yet. It needs a hashtag and to be retweeted by some big hitters.

Agreed. But I'm not on Twitter. What about #debatenothate?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/03/2018 15:02

How about just #nodebate Wink
