This is the petition asking the government to consult with women on the proposals to enshrine gender identity in law.

Don't apologise, reports keep us in a job! Are you happy that we don't need to delete anything more, though?

Totorosfluffytummy · 13/03/2018 10:04

Signed

Seafoodeatit · 13/03/2018 10:07

The green party or its members may well say that it was done without consultation but that doesn't change the fact that the party was/is very happy to run with it and publish it in their literature, they seem to have no qualms with what they'll stoop to calling women.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 13/03/2018 10:16

3,240. Less than 24 hours & we're nearly a third of the way there!

Melamin · 13/03/2018 10:21

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some sort of pr backlash if it gets legs. Hopefully the numbers will continue to rise fast. It is the best validation. I have emailed everyone I can. About to ring my dad.

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 13/03/2018 10:23

What what what - am I being stupid here? Is someone from the Green Party saying that this needs to be consulted?! :O I thought this day would never come... :O

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 13/03/2018 10:28

Signed. Thanks for setting it up.

Leo35 · 13/03/2018 10:36

Re. Wider sharing of this petition - I can't see it on Fair Play for Women website, nor A Woman's Place. May be these organisations are in the process of approving a link? I don't do Twitter so may be they are in there? Signed last night. Have booked to meet with my MP to discuss the issues.

Testingnamechange1 · 13/03/2018 11:04

I am pledging to you all that in addition to my signature I will try to get 5 more. If I think about my immediate social circle ( family, close friends) there are about 15 people it wouldn’t be too scary to have a conversation with. So ‘me plus pledge to try 5’ - anyone else up for that?

MsMcWoodle · 13/03/2018 11:15

My area is up to 15.
I shared the petition on a local forum. Sparked a bit of debate, not all of it pleasant, but will hopefully add some numbers.

WickWoman · 13/03/2018 11:23

Namechanged for this.

Apart from DH and me I am delighted there are 2 other people in the Caithness & Sutherland constituency who have signed this. I know it's a big area but if nearby, coffee?

failingatlife · 13/03/2018 11:25

Testing great idea! I have shared with family & friends on watsap & also shared on fb. My sis & ds1 already signed, my dh & dm will defo sign just need one more! My mum brought it up on Sunday when we were all their for mothers day. All agreed self ID is nonsensical so pretty confident my 2 bros & sil will sign too Grin We can do thisGrin
Wonder if I can persuade my ILs? They are totally non political & I doubt they have even heard about this! Might have to get dh involved Grin

LizzieSiddal · 13/03/2018 11:27

Testing Great idea, I pledge to get 5 people to sign too.

WizardLizard · 13/03/2018 11:42

I pledge five too. Already got three others to sign - two to go. Will aim to get them on board today.

Sillyjelly · 13/03/2018 11:48

Signed

YesItsADebate · 13/03/2018 11:52

Testing that’s a great idea. I’ve sent out personal invites to several people on the back of that idea and 2 have now signed.

I like that Testing. I shared on FB yesterday and got couple of signs/shares - also Whatsapped some more and got lots of signatures and concerned messages back! It is a good way to broach the subject with those who don't know, as it is such a gently-worded petition.

kaldefotter · 13/03/2018 12:06

@WickWoman... I used to live in Caithness a long time ago, and I hope you find your local allies.

Mner · 13/03/2018 12:09

I can definitely pledge me plus 3 (two friends already done, DH will do when he is feeling better) but I am scared re anymore. I brought up the subject with a very good friend who is legal minded, feminist and has experienced sexual assault. I thought she would be perfect for my first foray into a discussion re this and we had to agree to disagree.

I may try my sister though. I have been wondering if she might be a possible...? I haven't quite thought of the words yet though... Hmm...

SuitedandBooted · 13/03/2018 12:10

Can I prompt anyone with supportive men in their lives to get them to share and talk about this? I have come to the depressing realisation that men simply get listened to more, whilst women sharing this are more likely to get abused and blocked.

DH has quite a wide social media presence. with a rather arty "Trendy lefty dude" vibe. He has been posting some Gender critical stuff for a while - no abuse at all, and even some shares and likes! Confused I seriously doubt a women with a similar following would get the same.

He tweeted a friend yesterday with this www.wnd.com/2017/03/female-athletes-crushed-by-women-who-were-once-men/

Said friend has 2 very sporty daughters ( with professional sporting ambitions), and he has gone NUCLEAR, passing it on to all the other parents involved in the girls clubs etc.

Just goes to show what happens when there's self-interest involved!

MaryThorne · 13/03/2018 12:20

Out of interest I googled "sexual equality" yesterday and almost all the results that came up barring a few old ones related to "gender equality". Discussion of biological sex seems to have been airbrushed out of existence and when I searched for an explanation of the difference between the two there was virtually nothing and what did come up erroneously suggested that the terms were synonymous.

I accidentally posted this on the AIBU thread Blush

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 13/03/2018 12:21

Yes, have now had four male family members sign -across all generations.

They get the sport issue before most women do it seems - sense of fairness or how they've been brought up to not be physical against a woman - me. Really get it. Men that don't really must hate women.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 13/03/2018 12:22

Sorry: men that don't get it - must hate women. There is no other conclusion - my husband loves sport and is appalled that women's competitive sport will die out.

MaryThorne · 13/03/2018 12:24

Yes in sport there will be the men's and team and the TIM's team that everyone will have to pretend is the women's team
