Is there any interest in being part of this? and what do you think the priorities/focus should be?

OP posts:

athingthateveryoneneeds · 08/03/2018 12:04

Yep.

I agree with Ears

Strigiformes · 08/03/2018 12:14

It would be fantastic to have a party that will look into helping autistic adults to get into work. There really isn't much support out there for higher functioning people with asd. All of the priorities EarsListen listed are great. I'm in Smile

GirlScout72 · 08/03/2018 12:15

I'm in

As above and
Extention of legal exemptions, some of them not optional
Misogyny as a hate crime
And if they keep this crap up, repeal or amendment of the GRA 2004 (a hasty bit of legislation, hence TRAs driving a coach and horses through it now) to better clarify things to ensure that genuine trans people are protected properly, and the fetishists are kept out.

loveyouradvice · 08/03/2018 12:18

Anything that properly protects genuine transpeople AND women and children gets my vote! It is possible... we've done in the past... and single sex spaces are a crucial part of it....

PineappleScrunchie · 08/03/2018 12:19

Not necessarily a priority, but worth a mention, is the collection of data by “sex” not “gender” so we can better identify “sex-based” oppression.

terfing · 08/03/2018 12:20

I'm in and willing to work hard Smile

Values discussed on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3187520-To-ask-the-male-equivalent-of-TERF?msgid=76188567#76188567

WooWooSister · 08/03/2018 12:27

I think this is a great idea. I love GirlScout 's suggestion of including misogyny as a hate crime.
I'm not sure how single-issue you're planning to be? Could we include tougher sentences for DV and EA?

UpstartCrow · 08/03/2018 12:31

I support an agenda of 'sex not gender', but dont think a single issue party would succeed.

I think there are wider issues that feminists are concerned about, that make society fit for purpose such as the NHS, minimum standards for housing (which we used to have btw), and provision of social housing.
Affordable childcare, decent standards of education, access to higher education.
Affordable utilities.
Affordable basic foodstuffs.
A basic standard of living.

Its just common human decency.

MumOfTheMoos · 08/03/2018 12:32

Great idea! In order not to fall into the WEP trap of of being all things to all women (including men) and therefore end up being as much use as a chocolate tea pot, it’s the right thing to list a set of policy aims that people can agree with and pursue.

I’m in awe of so many on these threads!

MeltingSnowAfterHeavyFall · 08/03/2018 12:32

Basic income

Wanderingwomb · 08/03/2018 12:34

In

Patodp · 08/03/2018 12:36

Now the WEP has collapsed there's definitely a gap in the market.

A party that recognises both sex and gender as important and continues to distinguish between the two.

Patodp · 08/03/2018 12:39

Basic income

Yup.
Universal basic income will not be possible while we're in the EU, so a party supporting this will need to be Pro (soft!) Brexit.

AstraiaLiberty · 08/03/2018 12:39

I'd support a single-issue party campaigning for the protection of single-sex spaces, freedom of speech, and the rights of children to be GNC without being medicalised.

I wouldn't support a party with broad socialist aims.

terfsRus · 08/03/2018 12:41

The issue would be if this bullshit is passed into law the new party would have to take in TIMs as well or risk being shut down for illegality (can't believe I'm writing this)

womanhuman · 08/03/2018 12:42

What astraia said.

BetsyM00 · 08/03/2018 12:48

What about a coalition of independent candidates that campaign on the 3 aims given by Astraia? Individuals can also campaign on additional issues.

fuckoffsnow · 08/03/2018 12:50

Sex not gender
Women’s rights
Children

OvaHere · 08/03/2018 12:52

I'd support a single-issue party campaigning for the protection of single-sex spaces, freedom of speech, and the rights of children to be GNC without being medicalised.

It would have to be a single issue party as outlined above to prevent all TIMs in disagreement joining to control the narrative. If it had a broader female agenda as the WEP did it would go the same way as them.

This way there is no need to exclude TIMs but they would have to be in agreement with the core aims of the party to join ditto with any other men who wanted to join (unless you were intending it to be a women only single issue party).

MumOfTheMoos · 08/03/2018 12:54

I agree with “AstraiaLiberty” - it needs to be quite focussed on a specific set of interelated issue - if you make it too broad then you will exclude people.

I understand the desire to lump things in that impact women (such as basic income etc) but I think it will distract.

For me the fundamental issue threatening women is:

Sex vs Gender and sex segregated services & spaces
Data collection based on sex as the primary key not gender
Misogyny as a hate crime

MumOfTheMoos · 08/03/2018 12:55

Oh yes, freedom of speech - v important!
