International Women's Day Mass Cancelling of Labour Memberships Action

I am passing on an action started by @mayday4women on Twitter; they aren't on Mumsnet so they said I could post here for them.

Basically they are getting a lot of women contacting them saying they are cancelling their Labour memberships due to the decision by Labour's NEC to essentially take on self ID as party policy in every area, including re AWS. And they think it'd be a more powerful statement if women did it en masse together on International Women's Day, which is the 8th March (Thursday).

The idea is to let Labour see how important this is to women, and how badly they are letting women down. Everyone can always reinstate their memberships down the line, but this is a way to be seen and heard, and to make a statement. I'm not a member of any political party myself right now, but as I say I am passing this on and doing all I can to support my sisters in the Labour Party.

Mayday for women are drawing up a statement, and you can get in touch with them directly if you want to let them know you are taking part in the action: mayday4women@gmail

Cheers!

3rd rule of misogyny: Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish.

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 06/03/2018 23:07

I've yet to find a single transphobe who doesn't retreat into the assertion that anyone who disagrees with them must be a man. If you can't believe that other women disagree with you on this maybe you should get your head out of mumsnet (and also your own vagina) and look to the real world where transphobia isnt really acceptable any more.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 06/03/2018 23:08

If you're happy for people to cancel and get the hell out of Dodge, then why bother turning up to rant at us about 'cancel away'? It kind of contradicts the whole 'I don't care' slant you're trying to give it. Confused

Kneedeepinunicorns · 06/03/2018 23:08

LOL

Oh what a giveaway......

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 06/03/2018 23:08

I didn't say I didn't care, I said I'm actively glad I won't have to share a party with you any more.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 06/03/2018 23:10

Ok, its all a fit of pique.

I just checked the definition of pique
a feeling of irritation or resentment resulting from a slight, especially to one's pride

You have explained it now, thanks, I am piqued, not peaked. Bloody hell, so glad you came along.

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 23:10

This is the way they talk to one another over in AIBU.
We are not used to that much venom over here in the grown up women's space.

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 06/03/2018 23:11

Honestly, how can you not see that you've already failed? The world won't turn back towards injustice however hard you try and make it. You MUST be able to see that you've already lost this battle?! You can't make this country backtrack on the steps it has already taken towards equality.

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 06/03/2018 23:12

@thebewilderness I have seen more vitriol on the feminism boards than any other forum I've ever come across!

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 23:13

Can you mandate belief?
Can you codify into law the idea that some people can mind over matter themselves out of material reality and into the opposite sex, and must be treated accordingly?
It is like transubstantiation. A belief that no one actually believes.
Will you allow people to drug and mutilate children based on this belief that no one believes?

It has been tried before many times and never ends well.

UpstartCrow · 06/03/2018 23:13

Marching smartly forwards into the Brave New World!

TerfyMcTerface · 06/03/2018 23:14

I didn't say I didn't care, I said I'm actively glad I won't have to share a party with you any more.

And yet here you are, going out of your way to share a discussion board with us. Strange.

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 06/03/2018 23:14

@thebewilderness if you don't believe that our belief of what people are can be controlled and codified through law I would invite you to consider the entire history of the slave trade.

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 23:16

I recognize this as an attempt to re enslave women. I am astonished that you do not.

sallyannemum · 06/03/2018 23:17

I would imagine most CPL's will be holding great parties when you transphobes leave the Labour Party, Anyone who disagrees with you has to be male so again it boils down to what you have in your pants. You are certainly not feminists that has got lost along the way.
You have made the whole situation a joke and have shown the whole of sensible Labour supporters your true colours, and You have Failed miserably at getting the support you wanted,

Why do you care about trying to make all the horrible transphobes see things your way? You've already said you're ecstatic that they're leaving your party, that you don't want them involved, so why are you concerned about trying to make them agree with you?

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 23:18

Fugitive, you do not appear to be understanding what is being written. You appear to be hearing the opposite of what peeps are saying to you.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 06/03/2018 23:20

#fit of pique

I expect you will have any uphill struggle with that meme.

you sound a bit piquiey yourself?

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 06/03/2018 23:22

Vitriol, a well known cleaning agent, sorts out the nonsense from the sense.

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 23:23

I am 71 years old and I have been told "girls can't" all my life, all evidence to the contrary.
Feminism is the political movement for the liberation of women. Still. Even after all these years. Happy 100th anniversary of the first votes for women.

Terfmore · 06/03/2018 23:23

Its CLPs. The Labour Party is not a pleasant place at the moment. That is not because of women who oppose self I'd. There are people who's aim seems to be ridding the parry of anyone not ideologically pure. They don't give a shit about trans rights. They are using the issue to cause conflict. They are killing the party.

SpartacusWasHere · 06/03/2018 23:26

Fugitive I will fight the Tories too, I am not a transphobe but I AM SPARTACUS AND I AM A FUCKING FEMINIST TOO. You don't get to tell me I'm not.

I have spent too long being treated like absolute SHIT by men to stand down now.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 06/03/2018 23:27

Oh for goodness sake, you're making yourself look silly.

Do you seriously think with all the discussion tonight about how furious women are about today's final decision (and those threads stand on months of discussion and consideration of these matters) that you can turn up, rant and shout a bit with some Blairish soundbites and get posters to obey and get back in line?

If you actually want to discuss - and I don't believe you do at all - pick up the hundreds of threads on the many issues around this, and recognise that for many posters the time for discussion on this was months ago and they've long since moved on to wanting action. Please don't expect everyone here to dedicate their time and energy explaining to you their fury and many carefully thought out issues with self ID (again) just because you demand it. Or because you've been mobilised to rush over in response to the Tweet that MN were Doing Something and try shouting a few futile, superior 'shame shame' type comments. Way too little too late, and probably the least helpful way to actually change anyone's mind anyway.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 06/03/2018 23:28

deslerately desire

Is that his or her preferred name?
