International Women's Day Mass Cancelling of Labour Memberships Action

I am passing on an action started by @mayday4women on Twitter; they aren't on Mumsnet so they said I could post here for them.

Basically they are getting a lot of women contacting them saying they are cancelling their Labour memberships due to the decision by Labour's NEC to essentially take on self ID as party policy in every area, including re AWS. And they think it'd be a more powerful statement if women did it en masse together on International Women's Day, which is the 8th March (Thursday).

The idea is to let Labour see how important this is to women, and how badly they are letting women down. Everyone can always reinstate their memberships down the line, but this is a way to be seen and heard, and to make a statement. I'm not a member of any political party myself right now, but as I say I am passing this on and doing all I can to support my sisters in the Labour Party.

Mayday for women are drawing up a statement, and you can get in touch with them directly if you want to let them know you are taking part in the action: mayday4women@gmail

Cheers!

Its obvious you haven't been here long. Stick around, you might lose some of those preconceived ideas about other people.

BarrackerBarmer · 06/03/2018 22:03

Yes, women who call themselves transmen are completely welcome in all female spaces. What with being female, and all.

Even if they wear a stetson.

Imagine that.

Feminists aren't trans exclusive.
We're penis-exclusive.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 06/03/2018 22:04

Because they're women, Sallyanne . Intimate spaces need to be separated by sex, not by clothing and appearance. It's fine for biological women to look masculine. It's not fine to expect women to accept biological men into intimate spaces.

As for 'has anyone here ever met trans people' - oh dear, you don't come to MN much, do you?

Yes thanks. I have trans friends, and there are a number of wonderful transwomen and transmen who are MNetters. Take a look around and you'll find their posts, and the many concerns they have about self ID and how badly this will affect them.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 06/03/2018 22:07

Transgender women aren't the specific problem.

The problem is the 'self - ID' thing which allows any man, to proclaim himself a woman, with no counselling, no history of gender dysphoria and no history of living as a woman.

The ramifications of men who ID as women is already being felt in women's sport, within medical settings, prisons and in shop changing rooms.

FlutterGuy · 06/03/2018 22:09

I love it when someone like Sallyanne hurtles into a thread, typing with their knuckles, every sentence so gloriously exposing their ignorance and lack of experience. Do carry on.

SpartacusWasHere · 06/03/2018 22:13

Will I get shot if I say those transgender men are all seriously hot and I would probably date them in a second if given a chance?

Sorry, the point being NOT that I take away for a second from trans people whether male to female or female to male to live exactly as they wish, I do on the other hand worry about the legal ramifications of self-id becoming the norm and feel the need to protect my biological sex. I think self-id is dangerous to genuine trans people just as much as us.

So having talked myself in knots to try and show I'm not evil even if I'm now considered (to my children's hilarity) a 'radical' I will leave the Labour party with a heavy heart on Thursday then and I will let them know why.

Bugger.

Man haters

Oh no come on ladies that is a terrible accusation, we'd better buck our ideas up before we get accused of being prudish, jealous or hairy Sad

OOAOML · 06/03/2018 22:40

Actually Snibble I am a bit hairy - I'm gender non-conforming regarding leg hair just now.

doctorcuntybollocks · 06/03/2018 22:43

I have a furry belly. It just makes me more adorable.

noraclavicle · 06/03/2018 22:43

If Labour members/voters are under ANY illusions as to what Corbyn thinks of your concerns or worries on the ramifications of self-ID, the ‘likes’ on this post will disabuse you of them.

OOAOML Don't panic, I'm one of those hairy barren lesbians the TRAs warn about so you're positively princessy by comparison. Wink In fact I'm thinking about identifying as a shetland pony since passing is a definite possibility.

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 06/03/2018 22:50

Sorry but I can't take you seriously if you think self-ID is a bigger threat to women than the Tories. I can't consider you a feminist if you think self-ID is more of a concern than slashing funding to DV shelters, the fact that rape convictions have fallen under the tories, the danger to abortion rights, the disproportionately negative affect universal credit will have on women. By all means cancel your membership if it makes you feel good but don't you dare have the gall to call yourself a feminist while you do it.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 06/03/2018 22:53

I am not a member of the labour party but I am resigning from the labour party.

Women and men are the human race, women bring men and women into the human race from our bodies. Some things will never change.

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 06/03/2018 22:55

Also should add that as a member of labour myself nothing would make me happier than people like you lot cancelling your memberships because as far as I'm concerned the sooner you stop having a stake in the future of the party the better. Labour doesn't need transphobes (and that's what you are regardless of your ENDLESS attempts to assert otherwise) hanging onto its coat tails and trying to derail attempts to move towards equality.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 06/03/2018 22:57

Just SO weird to come onto the FWR board in your never-seen-before username and start with the lofty 'I will never take you seriously...' bollocks. Who the fuck are you that anyone would care? Talk about random.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 06/03/2018 22:58

Ooh look, the cavalry's arrived Smile

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 06/03/2018 23:01

Far worse unicorns - I fear A MAN may have arrived.

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 23:01

The DV shelters will be for Self ID males and crimes against women will skyrocket under Self ID. There are no political parties that do not advocate for Self ID so your assertion that there is a choice between Self ID and the Tories is in error.

womanhuman · 06/03/2018 23:03

don't you dare have the gall to call yourself a feminist while you do it

Hahahahahahaha ok bye then

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 06/03/2018 23:03

Blimey did someone arrive to shout transphobia

Arachnophobia yes, I have an irrational fear of spiders, dysphoria and AGP, nope, entirely rational responses to those conditions.

I'm starting to develop a phobia of people that say "people like you".

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 06/03/2018 23:04

I could ask the same about you - how important do you think you are?! I know mumsnet is a wasps net of transphobes and you all get to sit here in a nice echo chamber and pat yourselves on the back for all having the same views but you're wildly out of step with the rest of the country and if you think the tiny few of you who actually are labour members cancelling your memberships in a fit of pique over self ID is going to register as anything more than a blip to the party, you're mistaken. If anything it's a helpful cleanse of those people who seek only to derail progress. Labour doesn't need bigots and you'll save everyone a headache by removing yourselves from the conversation. By all means, cancel away...

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 23:04

The men appear to be very excited over this opportunity to put the women out of the public sphere in the name of equality.

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 23:05

Twelve million women are a drop in Labour's bucket and you can't quit them cuz you are all fired!
Thanks d00d.

womanhuman · 06/03/2018 23:06

The men appear to be very excited over this opportunity to put the women out of the public sphere in the name of equality.

That’s what I meant to say, I just accidentally said hahaha instead. I wish I was as eloquent as you. Smile

terfing · 06/03/2018 23:07

I think there's some sock-puppeting here... Very similar writing styles from the ploppers.
