More recently they are arguing that trans identified males are just like Black women who are more like males than females. Are they ignorant of the racist history of that claim or do they just not care?

Eh? Why are they saying black women are more like men? I can barely follow most of the non logic but that is even more confusing that usual Confused

terryleather · 01/03/2018 19:20

Fekko We have to humour them most especially if they are male...

53rdWay · 01/03/2018 19:28

The "pussy hats" were because Donald Trump talked about grabbing women by the pussy. Something a "feminist" should know, understand, and acknowledge.

People like Bergdorf have no concept of oppression centred around female bodies, though. They think pussy hats are women boasting about having vaginas.

SophoclesTheFox · 01/03/2018 19:31

That's a really interesting paragraph, terry. I remember wanting to read that book when I read about it being published. Is it good?

Monroe has a white mum. With all their racist rants Christmas Day must be a bloody hoot at their house.

I've found the book really interesting so far, especially the chapter that extract is from - Creating Scarcity In An Online Economy Of Virtue.

I'd say it's definitely worth a read - for a middle aged woman such as myself who doesn't really know what the yoof is up to online it's helped me get a bit more of a handle on what's been going on and how we've ended up in this topsy turvy world of Trump & TAs.

holycheeseplant · 01/03/2018 20:29

I don’t think talking out of your derrière counts.

Lol!

Wanderingwomb · 01/03/2018 20:46

Women don't go to smear tests because of a sense of shame or awkwardness about their vaginas and vulvas (why don't we have words like willy?). Women like my beloved mum don't take symptoms to the doctors early enough. It cost her her fucking life. And this prick of a man thinks we should talk less about vaginas.

Bejazzled · 02/03/2018 00:06

Andrew Neil just had a wee go at Labours Dawn Butler for appointing him as an advisor 👏

Fekko · 02/03/2018 07:09

I do t understand how these appointments are being made. They aren’t of people who have a track record of political activism, of lobbying for anything really (apart from their own interest), industry experience, educational experience (ie lecturer, researcher etc). They come across as rather unsympathetic, aggressively one-trick pony people who have no interest in anyone who isn’t their trick pony - and to be honest, limited debate skills. They spout sexist and racist comments at will (no slap on the wrist) and are backed by (and possible encourage/enjoy the drama) faceless thugs who threaten and intimidate anyone who questions them.

Shouting the same well worn slogans over and over again isn’t debating. And sulking/crying/whinging is called out is hopeless.

We need intelligent grown ups in politics. Not bandwagon jumping trick ponies.

Isn’t this the ‘lived experience’ ticket?

Lived experience being one of those entirely valid ideas that has been hijacked.

picklemepopcorn · 02/03/2018 10:03

Lived experience is valid where people only speak about their experience. Munroe is not qualified to talk about the vast majority of people's experience, and certainly not qualified to talk about feminism.

I can't remember where the article I read recently on here was, saying that the 9ld LGB groups lost momentum when they gained equal marriage, and are now funded and led mainly by middle aged white TIMs focussing on the trans agenda.

LangCleg · 02/03/2018 10:20

Munroe is an ultra-privileged person. Not only brought up with male socialisation, Munroe comes from a solidly middle-to-upper-middle class home and received a selective education.

Munroe doesn't need to lecture other people on their "privilege". Munroe needs to reflect on their own.

(Also: I thought Munroe looked beautiful as a feminine male. Post FF surgery, Munroe now looks like one of those American women who got addicted to plastic surgery. I find this quite sad.)

picklemepopcorn · 02/03/2018 10:32

Would a list of feminist concerns help or hinder? So, feminism is about.... I'm thinking of why Munroe Bergdorf doesn't get to say feminism isn't about biology, for example.

Italiangreyhound · 02/03/2018 10:36

So is it worth writing to Grazia magazine and telling them just how offensive it is for a male to be lecturing females on feminism?

picklemepopcorn · 02/03/2018 10:47

While the answer is "but Munroe is a woman", I'm not sure that will work. That is the bit I can't get my head around.

Fekko · 02/03/2018 11:01

‘How?’

Yes. Odd that the word 'woman' no longer stands for 'having female biology' in many circles.

merrymouse · 02/03/2018 11:27

Stephen Bush today on Bergdorf's comments on race:

"Bergdorf’s mistake is the introduction of the word “white”, as if superior virtue and an immunity to implicit bias were tendencies that black people inherited along with greater levels of melanin in their skin."

Read more at: inews.co.uk/opinion/munroe-bergdorf-race-wrong-tory/

There seem to be a lot of similarities between Bergdorf's concepts of race and gender.

I wonder how Bush's twitter feed as a man writing a column about race will compare to the twitter feeds of women criticising Bergdorf's comments on the Women's March. (Genuine question - will his column pass beneath the radar or will he just attract a different kind of troll?)

LoislovesStewie · 02/03/2018 11:28

I'm going to start telling men what makes a man, or how I know better than a mixed race person, or a person with whatever, and wait for the outcry. By the way, can I identify as a tall ,blonde supermodel, the OH would like this. ( I`m a short arse
BTW)

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 02/03/2018 11:29

So we say: We want people with female biology to represent the half of the popualtion of people with female biology and the issues that affect them

The reframing of any mention of female biology as transphobic hate speech is specifically intended to prevent us from saying this.

Their plan is evidently to shift the Overton window by stealth so no one notices it happening.

I just hope they have miscalculated
