I’ve seen infertility mentioned a couple of times now as a helpful justification by TIMs that being a woman isn’t defined by having children/female reproductive anatomy.
I want to say for the record that I have never felt more fundamentally a women as during my ongoing battle with infertility.
OPKs. LH/FSH blood tests. Progesterone blood tests. Transvaginal scans. Ultrasounds of my ovaries. Pelvic MRIs. Hysteroscopy. Uterine biopsy. Fibroid removal. Endometriomas. Polyp removal. Positive pregnancy tests. Miscarriage. Oocyte simulations. Egg collections. IVF. Failed IVF. Complications after egg collection. Surgery to save my ovaries. AFC/AMH reducing. Post-miscarriage flooding during periods. An actual karyotype analysis which defines me as Normal Female, 46,XX.
How dare these people co-opt my experiences as an infertile woman to try to justify their aim of elimination of biology, of science, of all reason to further their own ends.
I am a woman. With two X chromosomes in my cells (non-gametes) and everything that entails. We have fought for medicine to recognise that female biology is different to men’s because of BIOLOGY, not because of how someone feels in lipstick and a dress.
