"If you’re a Mum and on mn that often to have time to engage with ‘feminist’ forums, you’re more likely to be a ‘stay at home mum’. These are bored middle-class women putting their privileged Uni-educated thoughts to oppressing a small, vulnerable, oppressed sector of society"

Nice bit of sexism going on there

Also my terms are my terms. Either I'm a valid and welcome member of the Labour Party or I am not.

SimonBridges · 25/02/2018 14:26

Thank you Count , I was about to bring up Hedy Lamar whose work meant that the entire internet works.

I don’t understand the tweet about the chips in the tablets. Is the implication that they were invented by trans women, men or women?

FissionChips · 25/02/2018 14:27

The only pearl necklace I’ve ever had came with a facial Sad

Mogleflop · 25/02/2018 14:28

I thought the implication is that they could hack anything, like web accounts, web history, emails, microphones, phones etc?

Frombothsidesnow · 25/02/2018 14:28

How odd, Sally. You can't have read much. Over in Education there are plenty of academics working in university admissions for example. When we talk about careers, a fair number of our posters appear to be lawyers and IT professionals and doctors and management consultants. Planning threads attract planning professionals. Politics threads are an invaluable escape from the normal echo chambers; I know politicians who read them for insight.

The people I know in 'real life' who post here, and with whom I often discuss issues raised, have degrees, post-grad degrees and responsible careers. One of them, who achieved brief notoriety recently on here for some personal posting, runs a world respected institution.

Myunicornfliessideways · 25/02/2018 14:28

In other words, Women, (you know, the boring, actual biological child breeding, child rearing, mum type ones) Know Your Limits!

You bunch of over educated bluestockings are getting Mermaids down.

SimonBridges · 25/02/2018 14:29

Are they implying that the individual who posted the tweet could do that?
They say that they can expose our sexual fantasies. Do tell me when you find out, I’d love to know.

TerfsUp · 25/02/2018 14:30

Thanks, Datun.

Flomper · 25/02/2018 14:34

What a silly, blinkered person Helen is. I'm always on MN because er I do a lot of travelling on public transport and have a smartphone, a laptop and constant access to the internet on wifi or 4G, even underground. I've got kids, have been on MN for years and work fulltime and always have, you silly, silly billy Helen.

Datun · 25/02/2018 14:35

sallyandherarmy

Was that sarcasm? It's so difficult to tell, what with Poe's Law and all.

Elendon · 25/02/2018 14:37

Sally

I'm sure you are much better than that post you made. You need to fulfil your full potential.

LangCleg · 25/02/2018 14:38

I cast all my pearls before some swine years back, so I have none left to clutch. I can always mime clutching some if that helps Helen mitigate her rage episodes.

Datun · 25/02/2018 14:40

Which is it?

Are mumsnet mums worthless because they are stay at home mums?

Or are mumsnet mums worthless because they are over educated?

Or shall we spot the flaw in that argument by realising the common denominator is the word mum.

I'm sure the millions of them on this site are going to be delighted with that.

NotTerfNorCis · 25/02/2018 14:44

@ALunerExplorer Thanks for the info re the r-wing group that GC feminists are supposedly connected to. TRAs seem keen to paint us as (extreme) right wingers when in fact most GC feminists are lefties. It's a tactic to stop people listening to GC arguments. Hmm

HermioneWeasley · 25/02/2018 14:48

It’s completely obvious that women, and mothers in particular have never achieved anything * and their views can safely be disregarded.

  • apart from the continuation of the entire human race for all of human history.
SimonBridges · 25/02/2018 14:49

”and of course they don’t realise that we designed and built the chip that lives inside their phones and tablets”

And of course you don’t realise that every single human on this planet was created by a woman using her reproductive organs. You were all grown inside these mothers that you seem to hate so much. Your own mother wiped your arse and grew you in her womb. You are the product of a mother.

And anyway who is the ‘we’
We = trans?
We = women?
It can’t be we = men because you have a female name and present as a women, so you can’t be a man, surely.

TERFousBreakdown · 25/02/2018 14:49

Not only am I not a SAHM, I don't even have kids. I'm an engineer and in a STEM career. Hence my need for chip-designing TIMs is strictly limited. I manage a whole bunch of the best techies in the field.

Funny, though, that this Helen person seems so clued in on what's going on here if only over-privileged SAHMs have time for this kind of thing. Wink

KochabRising · 25/02/2018 14:49

Ahhh... threats, insults and ad hominem attacks. The last resort of those with no actual argument.

The MN feminist boards are wonderful. So says this non bored, full time working, WC holder of four degrees (in STEM.)

You may wish to have a think about why you hate women so much, sweetie.

sashh · 25/02/2018 14:53

And apart from anything else, aren't middle-class stay at home mothers afforded the same rights as all woman?

Only if they have a penis apparently

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/02/2018 14:55

Wow, Helen is a special kind of moron isn't she

YourVagesty · 25/02/2018 14:56

Yes, because it takes 'privileged uni-educated thoughts' to understand basic biology Helen

I'd hazard a guess that many of us are university educated but that's not a bad thing. It means that we are better placed to see through the bullshit.

BeUpStanding · 25/02/2018 14:57

Highly educated, working class, childless, unmarried woman here! I've been on MN since 2011 because it's full of interesting women from all walks of life talking about interesting things.

It makes me laugh how people think MN is made up solely of pearl-clutching, cardigan-wearing, middle-class, SAHM mums... and they're completely wrong Grin.

SimonBridges · 25/02/2018 15:00

Is the ‘we invented the microchip’ tweeter talking about Sophie Wilson, who as Roger Wilson helped develop the chip that was in the Acorn computer?
This went on to be the company ARM which builds the chips which are in every smartphone and tablet.

Sophie Wilson was just one person in that team, the rest of whom were men. I don’t think you can claim her to be the ‘inventor of the microchip’ alone. And just because one trans woman was part of that team it doesn’t mean that all trans women can claim it as their own.

(Interestingly if you watch the tv programme Micromen which is about the team who worked on that chip then she actually behind the bar in one scene)

KochabRising · 25/02/2018 15:01

If I were them, I'd be scared of educated older people online too.

This is the crux of their attacks on MN. Nowhere else on the web is there such a gathering of intelligent, sensible women acrosd a broad range of classes, creeds and raves who engage in critical thought. It must be very threatening to them to come across cogent argument rather than just shouting people down.

I would like to think government hover on here too gauging the temperature.

KochabRising · 25/02/2018 15:01

Raves. Sigh, races ofc.
