Disgusted by all the transphobia here

1000 replies

MikePeterson · 04/02/2018 16:12

A very good friend of mine and a long time poster here has spent most of her day crying because this fresh wave of transphobia in a community she thought she was welcome in has finally broken her spirits. After obtaining her permission, I am posting this because it needs to be said.

She is a woman with a penis and has identified as such since she was old enough to understand the concept of gender. Being female is part of her identity but so is her body, such as it is and untouched by surgery and artificial hormones. She is a beautiful individual and, to my eye, presents a much more feminine image than, ironically, Linda Bellos and several of her fellow bigots.

Arguing that, because of potential past trauma involving males, causing seeing a penis or even an individual likely to be in possession of a penis to be triggering is justification for segregation is as absurd as it is offensive. Would it be acceptable for a woman who was the victim of a violent crime commuted by a particular ethnic minority to demand that all members of that race be segregated in changing rooms and domestic violence shelters? Of course not.

Equally ludicrous is the claim that transgender women somehow had the privilege of living as a man. Cisgendered women are light years ahead of transgender women in terms of privilege and if you wish to continue denying this, you are no better than the most vile male misogynists.

Finally, think about how disrespectful you are being to all women, you are reducing all the wonderful differences between the genders to what someone has between their legs. The same feminist ancestors who fought for your right to vote, to be regarded as more than domestic servants and baby machines would spit on you for your intolerance.

I have never heard a woman joke about rape. Have heard men joke about it though.

I have heard male comedians joke about rape and heard women laugh along awkwardly with the supposed joke, because that's their social conditioning I suppose. Although there is interestingly less nervous laughter and more silence these days, thank fuck.

crunchymint · 08/02/2018 18:00

I suspect there are a number of lesbians on this thread. Transgenderism is profoundly homophobic. And twat is a misogynistic insult.

RubyLennoxExists · 08/02/2018 18:03

Thank you for your considered and reasoned response Jude. Your debating skills are exemplary and have absolutely convinced me that a woman is someone who looks feminine, and that men have the absolute right to demand access to women's (sorry, cis-women's) safe spaces because they want to. You further your cause and Mike's admirably.
NOT Hmm

LindySprint · 08/02/2018 18:04

Judecarr123 you come across as completely batshit with that post.

Yet your inability to debate, or indeed communicate, without hurling abuse and ill-founded attacks, is revealing of your anger.

And you missed the point.

RubyLennoxExists · 08/02/2018 18:05

Although Jude you're right - women do possess twats, although vulva is a politer word, and men have cocks - so at least we're agreed on something.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 08/02/2018 18:07

God forbid should any of your kids be gay for instance

Lol

RatRolyPoly · 08/02/2018 18:07

Dissect it if you want crunchy but Jude's visceral outrage, however well or badly expressed you find it, is a very healthy thing to hear in here I think! Pure moral outrage doesn't need to prove itself. Good on you Jude.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 08/02/2018 18:08

God forbid should any of your kids be gay for instance!

You clearly missed the bit about 80% of GNC kids who don't get put on drugs growing up gay then.

And also the bit about lesbians being pressured to "have a penis up them" because otherwise they're being transphobic.

Myunicornfliessideways · 08/02/2018 18:09

God forbid should any of your kids be gay for instance! I can see and hear it now! Oh you can't be darling! Women must have a penis up her! Oh darling no you can't possibly be gay! I mean its not right!

Large numbers of posters here are gay, me for one. Grin Point out one single phrase of homophobia or insistence on gender conformity?

But possibly step away from the gin first.

Fekko · 08/02/2018 18:10

Old enough to drink you think?

varvara · 08/02/2018 18:10

Judecarr113 if you actually read the threads on here you would realise that a great many of the posters are lesbians. Extreme trans activists are the ones who think lesbians should accept be-penised individuals (aka men) as sexual partners!

(I don’t know why I even bothered to post that; you won’t be back, will you? On the off-chance that you will, what specifically did you find offensive?)

crunchymint · 08/02/2018 18:12

RatPoly Outrage that makes no sense is meaningless. There are lots of lesbian and gay people against this, because it is homophobic. It is about making lesbian and gay people try and pass as the other sex, and thus appear straight.

SimonBridges · 08/02/2018 18:12

I see that the Masons have said that they will take any man regardless of race or religion.
I wonder if that would include trans men. Can we all rock up to our local lodge an announce that we are men and demand to be let in.
The policy makers will soon change their minds when it hits them where it hurts.
When we’ve done there we should all go off and join the presidents club.

LindySprint · 08/02/2018 18:14

So young TRAs actually think that we on Mumsnet are anti-gay? That's quite ... bizarre. Bizarre thinking by them, I mean, when that's a complete inversion of how and what MN is.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 08/02/2018 18:15

a very healthy thing to hear in here I think

Hurrah rat is back.

Do you think a paedophile rapist harassing rape victims is a good thing? Do you support Andi Dier and if not why not?

I did ask earlier but you had trouble reading that day. AMIRITE?

Bringonspring · 08/02/2018 18:16

I haven’t read all the posts but I have never read such outrageous comments against transgender people than on mumsnet.

Not sure if mumsnet are reading this but I wouldn’t be a company sponsoring you with the type of comments you allow on transgender.

iamawoman · 08/02/2018 18:17

The gay argument just doesnt cut it sorry - again another slur that women on here are homophobic. I mean it speaks for itself that even after reading the reasons why a born woman might want / need another born woman for privacy and dignity issues, to feel safe etc you totally ignore it and just throw out aggressive insults - no i wont share/ show my body with you or your friends who think they identify as women when clearly they have no idea and are actually more a threat to us than a man thay knows he is a man and knows his place isnt in ladies changing rooms

For fucks sake. Nobody has a problem with genuine transgender people. It is men who use this to abuse and harass women that is the fucking problem. Open your fucking eyes.

SimonBridges · 08/02/2018 18:21

Oh Jude, you are a silly sausage.
What does gender identity have to do with sexuality?

Men have penises and women have vaginas.
If a man wants to have sex with a man or a woman and vice versa has nothing to do with anything unless that person is being told that they are being a bigot by rejecting a trans person who possesses the sexual organs that doesn’t interest them despite the gender that person presents as.

There are far more gay people on here than you might realise. Not all of us are straight are even parents.
I think you are showing your bigoted attitude there.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 08/02/2018 18:22

Pure moral outrage doesn't need to prove itself.

Now there's a view that's never found itself on the wrong side of history...
