Finally joined twitter

Morning all Smile I've finally got my arse in gear and joined Twitter. Ive followed some of the obvious people (drradfem, a womans place etc) just wondering if anyone can recommend anyone else? I don't really understand Twitter! Do I need to follow the TRAs to see what they're saying or will things like that just appear in my feed?

Sorry for all the questions Smile

Morning, I only joined a week or so ago. It’s.....crazy. I found a few GC people then twitter starts suggesting similar types. No need to follow the TA’s, they pop up and frankly you wouldn’t want to follow some of them. My advice is to keep it calm and maybe don’t post in anger.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 28/01/2018 11:10

You’ll see what I mean after a bit, their are some people saying weird stuff!

I find it useful to follow usually-sensible people who appear to have had their heads turned momentarily by the TRAs. I get an insight from them as to how to target similar people in order for them to properly see the light, eg @stellacreasy

Thanks everyone Smile

Follow local politicians. I advise following tra's but as soon as they see you're gender critical you'll be blocked. They will not listen and they will not debate.

If you like cats then follow @hourlykitten and @catreviewer - should help to keep you chilled in amongst all the other stuff. Probably similar feeds if u r a dog lover.

Trying2bgd · 28/01/2018 16:43

Thanks @millyminty - I will definitely be following the cats!

I search keywords and follow everyone Grin

I just can't get my head round twitter at all.

I can't make sense of it. When I follow people, I get their tweets - in chronological order? And if I click on them, I can see a conversation?

But then I have to go back, and new tweets are there.

And I don't get hashtags at all.

I'm just going to drink gin instead.

Sillyjelly · 28/01/2018 20:58

Does anybody understand why GC people have changed their names to 'goody'? I am new to Twitter and think I missed something

HairyBallTheorem · 28/01/2018 21:02

Silly I think it's a reference to Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Goody (a contraction of Goodwife) was the equivalent of "Mrs" in Puritan American society of the day, so I think the reference is to both the Salem witch trials and McCarthyism.

@glosswitch

@VictoriaPeckham writes very good articles for the Times.

If you click on where it says her followers (40.7k followers atm) you'll probably find others you may want to follow and build from there.

Nobrain · 29/01/2018 18:11

Thanks everyone 😁

Try finding GC peeps using hashtags. Off the top of my head;

#sexnotgender
#selfID
And
#LabourLosingWomen

Some gender critical men to follow:

@gc_dad
@MichaelConroy68

JynOdan · 29/01/2018 23:11

My favourite thread of the day: Sheila Jeffreys

boatyardblues · 29/01/2018 23:22

Jyn This reply raised a chuckle:

Superman wears Sheila Jeffreys pyjamas.

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 29/01/2018 23:28

Yeah I've been laughing at the Sheila Jeffreys posts all night Grin

boatyardblues · 30/01/2018 00:04

I like this one too:

the flu has to get Shelia Jeffreys vaccinations once a year.

I have a twitter account, have had it, largely unused for years, I followed about 10 people, all tech, related to my area of expertise.

During all of this, I've returned to lurk (and follow a load of GC people) - but in reading the GC tweets, I've also been reading the tech tweets (many, many fewer than the GC tweets) - and I've seen something that I didn't when I was last on twitter (about 5 years ago):

About once every other day, one of the tech people I follow retweets something from a TIM tech person (different TIMs - 3 or 4 in the last week I've been back reading twitter) . I know this, because I look at the avatar/the content of their tweet (one TIM talking about bringing a mermaid tail to a work offsite for instance), my head goes 'that's not a woman' and when I look at their profile, it turns out I'm right.

In fact, the people I follow retweet more TIMs than women (I just went and counted)

TIMs are hugely over-represented in tech - more than I'd actually realised (I've been freelance for years, and tend to avoid large companies anyway).

sanluca · 30/01/2018 06:51

Delurking, to ask a silly question about Twitter. So Drradfem has a poll up, about transwoman being men. Over 16000 votes and 80% say no. Reading here and on Twitter I would think this would be the other way round, so people would say yes.
So what do you think, is the question incorrectly phrased, or too goading or do people really believe this?

I do feel bad for the lady in question, the transactivists are rubbing their hands in glee... feels a lot like kicking a person when they are down.

stoneagefertilitydoll · 30/01/2018 07:25

I wouldn't trust a twitter poll to be in any way indicative - it's going to have been spammed to hell by the (see my post above) tech literate TIMs

Foolish of her to even give it a go really (but then that's Venice isn't it? My impression is she's a bit of a do then think rather than think then do person)
