Hi MNers!

Just first of all want to say this isn't going to be a goady thread or a place to slag anyone off of be abusive. Everyone can have an opinion and everyone's allowed to think that they like.

2nd, if your anti-trans or don't believe trans people should be alllwed to self ID or that they aren't the gender they say they are etc pls be respectful and don't post here. There are loads of threads about all kinds of discussions about being trans that you can post on and I think it would be fair if you didn't do that here. I Obviously can't prevent anyone but It would be nice for this space to be respected as trans friendly and not taken over for other reasons. If you don't agree just leave and post somewhere else instead of using this thread please!

That now said - I'm all for trans rights and I think trans men are men and transwomen are women. I don't know if many MNers feel the same but if you do say hi! Or if anyone is trans know that you have an ally in me Grin this thread can be for a chat or support or (friendly!) discussion. Or maybe I'm the only one here lol and I can just talk to myself...

Clue's in the name. Just like French women are women. And short women are women.

😂😂😂

Like Mock Turtle soup? "Clue's in the name, innit? Mock Turtles ARE Turtles!!! 👏👏👏 #nodebate "

Give me strength 🙄

It's like a sloppy thinking contest 🤦🏼‍♀️

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/01/2018 14:51

Trans women experience the EXACT SAME experiences as ciswomen because they always have been female in all the ways that count and they grew up as a woman even though they said they were male because they were AMAB incorrectly. Except trans women have EXTRA oppression and discrimination than cis women because of transphobia. So actually, trans women have it much worse

Is this satire?

DodoPatrol · 24/01/2018 14:52

Oh.

I took Sonic's post to be satire.

Oops.

DodoPatrol · 24/01/2018 14:52

Snap!

AngryAttackKittens · 24/01/2018 14:53

...I honestly can't tell if SonicBoomBoom is taking the piss or not. Is it even possible to go so over the top that your comment is no longer credible as something an actual TRA might say?

Thehairthebod · 24/01/2018 14:53

Oh I thought Sonic was being serious!

God, that says a lot doesn't it!

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/01/2018 14:53

I do hope it is.

If so - nice job capturing the essentially nonsensical nature of TRAs, and getting the poor grammar and expression spot on! As a work of parody: 100%. If an actual post ....oh dear me, what a pile of shit.

DodoPatrol · 24/01/2018 14:54

Does 'all the ways that count' now mean 'all the ways that aren't affected by actual biology'?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/01/2018 14:55

The ways that count, Dodo! You know, you've seen them, the ways that count?
Being nurturing.
Liking dolls.
Being really really good at taking selfies.
Excellent make-up.
Just, you know, generally being a woman.

HairyBallTheorem · 24/01/2018 14:56

Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture stating that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, it is impossible to create a parody of extreme views so obviously exaggerated that it cannot be mistaken by some readers or viewers as a sincere expression of the parodied views.

I think Sonic is being sarcastic - I'm pretty sure I remember her making gender critical comments in the past. But such is the lunacy of this whole debate that I can't actually be sure.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 14:57

Oh God I can't keep up with who is satirising and who isn't 😏

SonicBoomBoom · 24/01/2018 14:57

TRANS

ARE

WOMEN.

✊🌹👏✊🌹👏✊🌹👏✊🌹👏✊🌹👏

TRANS WOMEN ARE WOMEN.

Does that explain further?

JuliannaBixby · 24/01/2018 14:58

SonicBoomBoom I don't know quite where to start with your post.

Except to say that French women and short women have vaginas, and men don't, so that's that tackled.

It's not possible for transwomen and born women to have the exact same experience only yours are worse.

Your experiences are, by definition, different, because they are challenged faced by transpeople. The challenges women face are, y'know, exactly that,.

SonicBoomBoom · 24/01/2018 14:59

I believe I have provided the necessary citations.
👏🌹✊

AngryAttackKittens · 24/01/2018 14:59

After the post from a trans woman about how they know they experience PMS because they once had an emotional breakdown in IKEA I concluded that it is impossible to parody this stuff.

SonicBoomBoom · 24/01/2018 15:00

Sorry, forgot one important one.

💁‍♀️

Battleax · 24/01/2018 15:01

😂

Battleax · 24/01/2018 15:02

concluded that it is impossible to parody this stuff.

You may have a point there.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 15:04

I think this is what happens after peak trans when you've really had enough Grin

Beachcomber · 24/01/2018 15:05

because they always have been female in all the ways that count

There it is. Here is the delusion. The misogyny. The objectification. The fetishization.

This poster is admitting with their "in every way that counts" that transwomen are not women. Because they are putting a qualifier on their own assertion.

"In every way that counts" shows the claim that transwomen are female to be an opinion. To be subjective. Depending on what one think counts. It shows the poster to not think that women's material reality and humanity counts.

It also shows that the poster does not actually believe their own rhetoric.

When will this ridiculous pretence end? Even the people who supposedly believe in trans ideology don't sound convinced by it.

Just tell the truth for crying out loud.

Deadlylampshade · 24/01/2018 15:05

‘Trans women experience the EXACT SAME experiences as ciswomen because they always have been female in all the ways that count’

I just don’t even know where to start with this. No, no they don’t. And that’s totally fine. There’s nothing wrong with being different.

sonic I very much doubt you’re coming back to this thread but if you do could you please expand on this point for me.
I’ll put my view forward and then you can refute me so you know I’m not setting a trap.

I don’t think trans women and women do experience the same ‘in every way that matters’ because to me what matters is biological. So regardless of whether you can actually had babies or not society still puts you in the class of people who can. Society doesn’t know if your infertile or don’t want children when it looks at you it still sees a vessel for making babies, women’s bodies are again and again appropriated by our culture as baby making machines. This is how women are seen and treat, regardless of whether they actually can or not.
When an employer promotes a male bodied person because they are worried a female bodied person may go on maternity leave, this is regardless of whether the female bodied person is a) capable or b) going to have a baby, it’s being part of the class of people that breed and feed that causes the Opression.

You see opression and identity is not just about how you see yourself or how you identify, it’s about how society identifies you, and society does not treat male bodied people the same as it treats female bodied people simply because male bodied people aren’t the ones getting pregnant.

I 100% support trans women’s rights to present exactly how they want but they are not female, and that’s fine.

(Also do you know what that rose means?)
