Trans friendly thread!

Hi MNers!

Just first of all want to say this isn't going to be a goady thread or a place to slag anyone off of be abusive. Everyone can have an opinion and everyone's allowed to think that they like.

2nd, if your anti-trans or don't believe trans people should be alllwed to self ID or that they aren't the gender they say they are etc pls be respectful and don't post here. There are loads of threads about all kinds of discussions about being trans that you can post on and I think it would be fair if you didn't do that here. I Obviously can't prevent anyone but It would be nice for this space to be respected as trans friendly and not taken over for other reasons. If you don't agree just leave and post somewhere else instead of using this thread please!

That now said - I'm all for trans rights and I think trans men are men and transwomen are women. I don't know if many MNers feel the same but if you do say hi! Or if anyone is trans know that you have an ally in me Grin this thread can be for a chat or support or (friendly!) discussion. Or maybe I'm the only one here lol and I can just talk to myself...

Btw Jon, there are Irish posters on this thread :)
so clearly women aren't as happy there as you think

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 23/01/2018 18:45

And another one who will donate Swerfy...you are a bloody inspiration....keep fighting the good fight.

Love and respect.

Halebeke425 · 23/01/2018 18:46

As long as the Trans allies and activists continue to refuse to engage or try to work with women for a solution to the very real concerns of self ID, that will benefit everyone, there will always be this us vs them mentality and it'll get worse and worse. By behaving the way you are op you actually make life harder and more difficult for Trans people to get by. Why not talk about the issues and actually act like you care about women's rights?

Acknowledge us. The no debate attitude is exactly why we have feminism, because women are always ignored, told to sit down and shut up and just accept our lot. If you want to appropriate our areas, our shortlists, our physical sex, if you want to speak for us and our needs, have some fucking respect and LISTEN to what women are telling you.

Everyone should have the right to live and express themselves as they wish free from abuse and prejudice. Transwomen are transwomen and that's fine. Women are oppressed because of their biology -
pretending it doesn't exist and defining 'woman' (or man, even) as a set of stereotypes is damaging, offensive, insulting and ANTI FEMINIST.

AssassinatedBeauty · 23/01/2018 18:47

@Jon66 presumably Ireland is one of the places you are thinking of? Are you aware of the key differences between the Irish self ID laws and what is being proposed here?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 23/01/2018 18:47

MsGameandWatching raises a valid point

Very true, sorry i missed that earlier

7 posters just saying yes i agree...would've been boring

I think datun said something similar

ATeardropExplodes · 23/01/2018 18:48

I can't understand people objecting who will not be directly affected.

Trans friendly thread!
Maryz · 23/01/2018 18:48

Jon66 must be seriously lacking in curiosity to not see any possibility of difficulties at all Confused

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 23/01/2018 18:48

Can you imagine a post in AIBU where the OP only replied to people that agreed with them?

I'm sure that would go swimmingly.

Datun · 23/01/2018 18:48

SwerfyTerfy

Done. (I may have added an extra $10 for each poster whose questions go unanswered and uncared for).

Jon66 · 23/01/2018 18:48

Are you male or female, Jon?

Yes . . .

100lbtolose · 23/01/2018 18:48

Thanks @Jon66 Smile the more anti trans sentiment there is on this thread the more heartening it is to see the odd pro trans voice Flowers

That is why there is no debate, because when you ask questions there are no answers.

@GinAndSonic Love your 15:26 post. Sums it up nicely

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 23/01/2018 18:50

Really datun

But there are masses of us!!!

RedToothBrush · 23/01/2018 18:50

can't understand people objecting who will not be directly affected.

I have a trans sibling. Is that good enough? I think self ID will harm them. Yet I am not a 'trans ally' whatever the fuck that means.

Its like a test in which you have to prove how committed you are to the cause and whether your concerns are compliant with the ideology of the approved activists.

What the fuck that has to do with feminism is beyond me. Its just about the identity of being a trans ally or being trans itself.

Nothing else is relevant.

Slow clap. Very clever, Jon. It's a simple question. But you appear not to be able to answer any questions or put any sort of reasoned argument besides "I think you're mean and I don't think your views count". So not surprising.

BeyondWW · 23/01/2018 18:51

This room is bloody full of elephants, not just one in the corner Grin

Op:

Ereshkigal · 23/01/2018 18:52

Huge elephants 🐘

BeyondWW · 23/01/2018 18:52

Datun, do you really mean over £3k?! Shock
Surely I've misinterpreted that!

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 23/01/2018 18:52

and the other point is that in countries where the proposed scheme for the UK is already in place, they report no issues regarding the concerns by some posters on here

I've not lived in Ireland, but I've lived in Malta, and it's a very different environment to the UK (given that it's a tourist-heavy island, with religious inhabitants numbering about the size of a medium town). It's also pretty low down on the list of countries recognising the rights of women (there were frequent marches against abortion for instance)

Ireland specifically has sex based carve outs that are not proposed as part of the UK legislation, oh, and again, heavily religious, and not that hot on women's rights.

Not really something that's comparable.

Can you not grasp the difference between hating trans people and thinking that the rights of women should not be compromised OP?
Why does disagreement equal hate in your mind? Do you hate everyone you don’t agree with? Do you think the problem here might be yours?
