Labour Against Transphobia Facebook group

Lily Madigan and Aisling Musson are asking for 'screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour' so they can make Labour 'a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.' In other words, doxxing people so they can be thrown out of the party for gender-critical views.

The group write-up is:

A group formed to oppose the rising tide of Transphobia in the UK Labour Party and to seek to make the Party a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.

PLEASE READ THE PINNED POST

If you have screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour please put them in the google drive folder rather than offloading them straight into the group as it may otherwise be overwhelming and trans members should have the option to not have to look at upsetting comments.

Do not add anyone unless you are sure that they:

  1. Are a member of the Labour Party
  2. Believe the basis of gender is self-definition
  3. Think that transphobia is grounds for expulsion from the party
  4. Respect the autonomy of trans people to direct the fight against transphobia (I.e will not take decisions against the will of trans people)

If you are a trans and/or non binary person and you would like to be added to the secret group (trans/nb people only) please message lily madigan or aisling musson and we will add you.

Rules:

  • No advocacy for violence, threats of violence of other illegal acts (quite apart from the morality of it, please do not get this group shut down)
  • This is a not a discourse group. If you do not agree that transphobia is bad, that the Labour party has it and that we should fight it, this is not a group for you.
  • Be respectful. As far as possible, please always be friendly, respectful and comradely and treat others as you would wish to be treated.
-No members of other parties.
  • TERF is not a slur.

My point being, that Labour can also use this to back up a decision to back self ID as they are not the first.

BeyondWW · 23/01/2018 10:23

JJ has shared her email on the gfm - [email protected]

SpartacusReality · 23/01/2018 10:25

RedToothBrush just to be clear, do the Lib Dems already have self-ID women only shortlists?

Datun · 23/01/2018 10:25

RedToothBrush

How are they doing that? Is it by not linking self ID to the government plans to reform the GRA? But using the equality law?

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 23/01/2018 10:25

Thank you Beyond

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 23/01/2018 10:29

If they pass this I am done with them for good.

Bastards

It appears as if Labour is going to double down on its commitment to including men on all women shortlists. So the upshot of all this is that it's siding with Madigan and cronies and pushing women out of politics.

RedToothBrush just to be clear, do the Lib Dems already have self-ID women only shortlists?

Saw a tweet to that effect the other day. I will try and find to confirm.

crunchymint · 23/01/2018 10:38

Leftists in the Labour Party have a long history of not supporting women, so sadly this does not surprise me.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/01/2018 10:46

Am tweeting but fear it's a done deal.

DrRisotto · 23/01/2018 10:56

.

theaveragewife · 23/01/2018 11:05

Reading through the twitter posts is really heartening, it may be done but Labour may be done with too!

Hammerofthetwat · 23/01/2018 11:05

Seen this? twitter.com/beckyvondonna/status/955757205755703296 The grabs are very interesting. I’ve spoken to the mail today, and Rod is calling me after he walks his dog. I’ve also tweeted hashtag. Bloody transtrenders.

BeyondWW · 23/01/2018 11:06

No one is listening to what the population want
The actual population, not the virtue signallers on social media.

I see this turning into another UKIP/Brexit situation. One party will come along that says you are what you are born as, and the existing parties will lose out - while still sticking their fingers in their ears and going "lalala"!

crunchymint · 23/01/2018 11:10

We need legal action.
By the way if anyone sees a place where the available women's toilets are turned into a gender neutral toilet and the men's is still a men's, that is sex discrimination and the venue can be sued. If you see this there are lawyers that will take this on.

MonaTheMoaner · 23/01/2018 11:11

I can’t thank you all enough for not only the hard work and dedication you’ve put into this but also for educating me on these issues.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 23/01/2018 11:12

I've emailed JJ asking her to reconsider redirecting the funds and stick to the original plans.

Hammerofthetwat · 23/01/2018 11:12

When there’s mixed toilets, I use the disabled. I’ve already been raped thanks(!) 😔

Ohforfoxsakereturns · 23/01/2018 11:13

I’m furious.

I have already resigned my membership over this.

The practical implications haven’t been thought through for either trans people or women. Self-I’d is going to damage the very people it is meant to be supporting.

I will be very surprised if LM is still a women’s officer after all this. It will speak volumes if so.

But I fear LM getting the boot/resigning may be deemed a ‘trade off’ to allowing changes to the AWS. The significance of that will ultimately result in the end of AWS.

The whole thing has misogyny at its core. I suspect MPs have been told their stance - to keep quiet or support the change - and that there is more to it. It could be a smokescreen to detract from something else going on. I don’t know, I just know I’m suspicious of it all.

crunchymint · 23/01/2018 11:14

I have heard of cases where this trans stuff has already damaged women. But not women who are willing to go public about it and take a case to court. That is the real issue, this affects the most vulnerable women.

Battleax · 23/01/2018 11:16

We need a repository for case studies.

BeyondWW · 23/01/2018 11:17

I grew up in a wc area of wales that has been labour as long as I remember.
Labour I guarantee you, these people - your core demographic (you know, the one you ignored over immigration concerns, that led to the Brexit shitshow) - they are not believers that "transwomenarewomennodebate".

Chchchchangeabout · 23/01/2018 11:21

This is absolutely what we need legal action for, to challenge this. My understanding is this is an illegal move by Labour? I thought this was the whole point of the crowdfunder,

Chchchchangeabout · 23/01/2018 11:22

Battleax yes

crunchymint · 23/01/2018 11:23

Agree about asking women we know who are directly affected, if they would be happy to be put forward as a case study. We have sex protection legally, we need to use it.
