Labour Against Transphobia Facebook group

NotTerfNorCis · 19/01/2018 17:40

Lily Madigan and Aisling Musson are asking for 'screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour' so they can make Labour 'a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.' In other words, doxxing people so they can be thrown out of the party for gender-critical views.

The group write-up is:

A group formed to oppose the rising tide of Transphobia in the UK Labour Party and to seek to make the Party a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.

PLEASE READ THE PINNED POST

If you have screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour please put them in the google drive folder rather than offloading them straight into the group as it may otherwise be overwhelming and trans members should have the option to not have to look at upsetting comments.

Do not add anyone unless you are sure that they:

  1. Are a member of the Labour Party
  2. Believe the basis of gender is self-definition
  3. Think that transphobia is grounds for expulsion from the party
  4. Respect the autonomy of trans people to direct the fight against transphobia (I.e will not take decisions against the will of trans people)

If you are a trans and/or non binary person and you would like to be added to the secret group (trans/nb people only) please message lily madigan or aisling musson and we will add you.

Rules:

  • No advocacy for violence, threats of violence of other illegal acts (quite apart from the morality of it, please do not get this group shut down)
  • This is a not a discourse group. If you do not agree that transphobia is bad, that the Labour party has it and that we should fight it, this is not a group for you.
  • Be respectful. As far as possible, please always be friendly, respectful and comradely and treat others as you would wish to be treated.
-No members of other parties.
  • TERF is not a slur.

Excellent news nettle

notterf I will see if I can send an email tomorrow

hammer you are amazing for all your hard work. Good night

furcoatnaeknickers · 22/01/2018 22:53

hammer thank you for all your efforts, will hopefully help peak trans a few more people! But please do look after yourself as well Flowers

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 23:02

The rate people are 'peak transing' seems to be increasing.

Indeed it does seem to be increasing, very quickly. But this is what I thought would happen, as people become aware of whats actually happening. Once 'normal' people find out the extent this has already gone, and whats being proposed too, they 'peak' pretty fast. The more and more this bollocks is publicized, the quicker people turn gender critical. I think a lot of it though is so unbelievable, that people..don't believe it! The likes of Laural Hubbard taking weightlifting medals from women for example. Or rapists with penises in female prisons. Along with 'self-identification' fullstop.

BeyondWW · 22/01/2018 23:05

Hammer, you done good today Flowers

irretating · 22/01/2018 23:08

@NotTerfNorCis - email sent.

Delurking...

Been glued all day.

I caught the unison post below and just wanted to add the attached for union members to withdraw their consent that their fee's go towards the political fund. Hurt them in the wallet that's where it'll hurt most.

NotTerfNorCis · 22/01/2018 23:12

Thanks for your support @Mner.

@Vicxy The way dissent has been suppressed is bound to lead to an explosion. I'm a Labour support who's a member of several Corbyn groups on Facebook. Seeing gender-critical people shouted down, abused, threatened and slung out of the groups is frightening. They'll learn that you can't make opinions go away by censoring them. The Guardian would do well to learn that too.

Anyone wanting to write to their MP, the link below is an excellent place to start.

They talk through what to write, from a sensible, grounded viewpoint.

There are exemptions in place to protect women, but they're not being invoked.

The wording is woolly, most retailers/service providers don't know they exist and if they do, they are worried about threats from transactivists who do target businesses.

The link sets out the exemptions, why we need to beef them up and have them more widely understood.

For example, if you're in the Marks & Spencer's changing room and a dodgy bloke comes in, you can slap a copy of the exemptions down on the counter and say get that man out.

The goal is they will understand what you're talking about and they will be utterly convicted about asking him to leave, without fear.

This is going to be a numbers game. The more MPs feel public opinion is going against it, the better. We want their inbox filling up and their email pinging relentlessly.

Email and write. Pieces of paper are harder to ignore.

Red

My DH is full on progressive too but took me the best part of a year to persuade him on this and even now I pick my moments because he thinks I'm obsessed.

He's not completely wrong btw but I have been obsessed with politics since I was 12 and this issue has monopolised my attention for the last year.

No other single issue has. For me, it's the most important issue for (yes, Western) women in a 100 years

Akire · 22/01/2018 23:20

Thanks for all the links. I’ve said before as a Disabled woman who has carers I’m
Currently protect by the GRC. In as much as if I had a TIM employed for personal care they least would have to look the part and have some sort of paperwork. I’m worried that if it’s self ID anyone can work with opposite sex with vulnerable people in their own home. I’m
Not saying abuse would happen but hell of an easy way for it to happen. Would a care Agency have fight or money to fight one TIM who says will sue them if they don’t let them care for women? If I refuse care by a male then will I be a TERF and the can kick me off their books?

DailyWTFMoments · 22/01/2018 23:26

Akire - I understand your fear.

It's already happening.

I fell out with a friend last week when she said that the Trans-identifying staff member she's responsible for is carrying out personal care for vulnerable adults of the opposite biological sex - despite their (and their families) contractual terms to have care carried out by the same sex/gender.

As far as my friend was concerned, there is no choice - all the advice being given to HR professionals is that self-ID is protected.

Bumblebzz · 22/01/2018 23:26

I wrote (email) to my MP to query their stance on AWS not being limited to women, but have not had a reply other than a query for my address.
Then I noticed they are a signatory on this, so I guess it's not looking good is it?

Akire · 22/01/2018 23:32

That’s really interesting. At moment have had one carer who I’m not 100% sure about but because they are presenting as female with few things that make you think. She is nice enough and in your head they are “trying” pass and I can’t tell so this is ok and I’m not going make a fuss. Hey I could be wrong. But it would be different story if 6foot bloke with a beard turned up said call me Dave. Then no one can pretend either way. If that makes sense!

Are you me?
Still working on DH.
Family day trips were Demos and marches when we were kids.

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 23:47

Eamonn

In the past, trans-rights activist Morgane Oger has called Neufeld's remarks "disgusting" and "unacceptable," saying he has harmed an initiative aimed at making school safer environments.

That Morgane Oger dude is asking twitter to idenfity the woman at the womens rights march who was holding the 'transwomen are men' sign.. so thats they can take legal action against her for an apparent hate crime.

Remember that name from this afternoon.

Venice Allen confirmed she's been suspended from Labour twitter.com/DrRadfem/status/955584125263638528

Someone has posted an interesting link about 'TERFs' on her Twitter feed.

'So, what gets people labelled TERFs is not their opposition to the fundamental rights most trans people care about. Rather it is a form of political dissent: you are labelled a TERF if you question or criticise the bizarre ideology which is currently promoted by some trans activists.[...] If disagreeing with their extreme views makes you a TERF, then frankly, almost everyone is a TERF. [...] Trans women are not, by definition, biological females. Yet in the most extreme version of the ideology, you cannot say that without being labelled a TERF.'

Hammer you absolute bloody superstar thank you for all the effort you are going to here.

And to the rest of you wonderful women, writing, emailing, tweeting, de-lurking, peak-transing, screen-shotting and refusing to shut the fuck up....I think you’re all bloody marvellous and I’m proud to stand with you FlowersWineGin

Akire · 23/01/2018 00:01

Men having a chat on line one man dares to say “Trans men are not biological men they are trans men, right?” Men look up nod, carry on with their day. (Well most likely have good laugh then carry on)

Woman say same thing whilst also trying protect their smaller rights for being lost further and it’s death threats, and eviction from a polictical party. I just don’t get distinction.

crunchymint · 23/01/2018 00:02

Vicxy That woman tweeted back her name and basically said she stands by what she said.
Nothing will happen.

MaggieTulliver1 · 23/01/2018 04:33

exactly Akire. Men are also allowed to say, over and over, that they transwomen are women in every way except for 'relationship purposes'. And women are being called bigots by high profile men all over twitter.

PlectrumElectrum · 23/01/2018 07:14

I just got this from a twitter post - might be useful for anyone whose social media has been trawled for 'evidence' to be used to try & get people thrown out of the Labour Party.
