Lily Madigan and Aisling Musson are asking for 'screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour' so they can make Labour 'a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.' In other words, doxxing people so they can be thrown out of the party for gender-critical views.

The group write-up is:

A group formed to oppose the rising tide of Transphobia in the UK Labour Party and to seek to make the Party a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.

PLEASE READ THE PINNED POST

If you have screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour please put them in the google drive folder rather than offloading them straight into the group as it may otherwise be overwhelming and trans members should have the option to not have to look at upsetting comments.

Do not add anyone unless you are sure that they:

  1. Are a member of the Labour Party
  2. Believe the basis of gender is self-definition
  3. Think that transphobia is grounds for expulsion from the party
  4. Respect the autonomy of trans people to direct the fight against transphobia (I.e will not take decisions against the will of trans people)

If you are a trans and/or non binary person and you would like to be added to the secret group (trans/nb people only) please message lily madigan or aisling musson and we will add you.

Rules:

  • No advocacy for violence, threats of violence of other illegal acts (quite apart from the morality of it, please do not get this group shut down)
  • This is a not a discourse group. If you do not agree that transphobia is bad, that the Labour party has it and that we should fight it, this is not a group for you.
  • Be respectful. As far as possible, please always be friendly, respectful and comradely and treat others as you would wish to be treated.
-No members of other parties.
  • TERF is not a slur.

I would suspect that if legal action is being taken, removing posts would be the order of the day. In the same vein, might be wise not to post too much about possible legal happening in case that is used against the case.

crunchymint · 22/01/2018 19:25

It is all over twitter, so a bit late for that. And I think the legal action is about harassment and data protection.

Plonkysaurus · 22/01/2018 19:31

I've been reading the thread all day with my jaw on the floor. This is fucked.

I've cancelled my direct debit and sent an email. Properly appalled.

Ereshkigal · 22/01/2018 19:31

Guardian, yes, this is absolutely crucial. Otherwise the debate just takes place within the manipulative terms that trans activists have dictated. Feminists need to go on the offensive rather than the defensive and start framing the debate on our terms.

YY. Fuck their duplicitous nonsense.

Deadlylampshade · 22/01/2018 19:37

Now I don’t have a law degree so I’d like someone who knows more about this to explain, isn’t the law ALL about definitions of words. So won’t this just all unravel once it gets to court?

LangCleg · 22/01/2018 19:37

There is no putting the genie back in this bottle.

My thoughts also. It's an existential fight now.

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 19:41

So it looks like the little boys' witchhunt is working.

They will be thrilled.

A man is an adult human male. Calling Paris Lees a man is entirely accurate. Mother nature is such a TERF eh...

againstvaw · 22/01/2018 19:42

Guy threatening self-harm is nearly 30. Organised a campaign against another Women's Officer because she represented women's interests. Enlisted Madigan to make a complaint against that Women's Officer.

Now he threatens self-harm because people make complaints against him?

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 19:42

So he obtains information.illegally and the victims get suspended for stating biology?

Wtaf indeed. Sometimes I do feel I am caught in a ridiculously long dream, thats kind of lifelike until this shit happens.

Desiderio · 22/01/2018 19:50

Who is the fella threatening self harm? Has the entire party turned teenage?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/01/2018 19:53

Who is the fella threatening self harm? Has the entire party turned teenage?

Its probably a good idea to not answer this question.

ShoesHaveSouls · 22/01/2018 20:14

I think the one I saw probably is a teenager, and no I won't name him. I don't think he's the poster's relative talked about upthread.

He is clearly very into the TRA thing, and sees "TERFs" as the absolute enemy - but I was concerned because he has autism and mental health issues, and was posting rather erratically last night. (I'll admit it - I thought what if it were my son? Typical female socialisation Hmm )

I am absolutely behind JJ, and we absolutely need to frame this debate about the GRA / self-ID and the dangers this poses to women - but we should not make this about our witch hunt of individuals on Twitter.

As JJ says - We WILL raise the level of this debate!

Gacapa · 22/01/2018 20:17

Just been talking to a friend who is distraught. An anonymous email has been sent to her employer and CLP. Screenshots of her Twitter, demanding she be sacked and expelled from Labour Party.

This is horrific.

And get this - the CLP are saying it must be TORIES doing it. As if we are fucking stupid.

I despair. And I blame Corbyn for taking the top job and failing to control the party. He's a disgrace.

Deadlylampshade · 22/01/2018 20:21

That’s awful gacapa

I hope her employer reassured her. The CLP are a disgrace

Nuffaluff · 22/01/2018 20:22

I just cannot believe all of this is happening. Well I sort of can.
They surely will not get away with this.

TinselAngel · 22/01/2018 20:22

It's worth bearing in mind, as we discovered on the Trans Widows thread, just how many TIM's Work in IT.

SophoclesTheFox · 22/01/2018 20:23

That's horrible, gacapa. This whole thing has descended into a nightmare.

We have to be like Michelle Obama though - they go low, we go high.

We are defending women's rights. And that is a legitimate aim. Don't let anyone sway you from that, no matter the emotional blackmail. We get to name our oppression, and we get to organise to fight it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/01/2018 20:25

An anonymous email has been sent to her employer and CLP

Surely that is harassment?

And anonymous? Fucking cowards.

ShoesHaveSouls · 22/01/2018 20:26

Shit, gapaca. This is horrendous. It is like a waking nightmare, where everything just doesn't make sense. Confused

I do think eventually everyone will wake up to this - eventually. Hopefully not when it's too late.

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 20:30

Okay guys, Nick Cohen wants to cover this. If anyone is receiving threats, he wants to know. Fuck me! That’s the 4th bite today. Mail said no btw. Who cares! We have started something. Proud to have met you ladies. Doesn’t matter politically about fractions, this is about women.

MonaTheMoaner · 22/01/2018 20:33

I’m glad this is getting media coverage. This is not about stripping trans rights but about protecting women’s rights alongside trans rights but we can’t even have a discussion without personal details being leaked, threats and downright bullying.

SophoclesTheFox · 22/01/2018 20:33

Doesn’t matter politically about fractions

This is more about percentages anyway Wink

And I agree. I find myself with some odd bedfellows on this issue, but I guess sometimes you have to hold your nose and think "Well, I disagree with you on pretty much everything, but needs must".

BelaLugosisShed · 22/01/2018 20:34

How would they find out a person’s employer? 😧

ShoesHaveSouls · 22/01/2018 20:37

I like Nick Cohen very much - hopefully he'll do a good job. Well done Hammer.

There is just so much "Transwomen are women - no debate" mantra about - that's what got Ralf Little & the QC, I'm sure. The very fear - as an inclusive left-winger - of being called transphobe or bigot. "Transphobicphobia" perhaps - "a fear of being called transphobic, sometimes so great you will allow all good sense and scientific knowledge to be thrown in the bin"

(I think it's probably good that the Mail won't cover it btw).

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 22/01/2018 20:38

If I had donated with my name (rather than anonymously) then you'd have had a 50/50 chance of emailing the right employer (although also a 50/50 chance of getting a barrister... ) - mind you, I'm in IT too, so whichever one you plumped for you might have a bit of a tricky time on your hands if you were doing something illegal!
