Labour Against Transphobia Facebook group

Lily Madigan and Aisling Musson are asking for 'screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour' so they can make Labour 'a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.' In other words, doxxing people so they can be thrown out of the party for gender-critical views.

The group write-up is:

A group formed to oppose the rising tide of Transphobia in the UK Labour Party and to seek to make the Party a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.

PLEASE READ THE PINNED POST

If you have screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour please put them in the google drive folder rather than offloading them straight into the group as it may otherwise be overwhelming and trans members should have the option to not have to look at upsetting comments.

Do not add anyone unless you are sure that they:

  1. Are a member of the Labour Party
  2. Believe the basis of gender is self-definition
  3. Think that transphobia is grounds for expulsion from the party
  4. Respect the autonomy of trans people to direct the fight against transphobia (I.e will not take decisions against the will of trans people)

If you are a trans and/or non binary person and you would like to be added to the secret group (trans/nb people only) please message lily madigan or aisling musson and we will add you.

Rules:

  • No advocacy for violence, threats of violence of other illegal acts (quite apart from the morality of it, please do not get this group shut down)
  • This is a not a discourse group. If you do not agree that transphobia is bad, that the Labour party has it and that we should fight it, this is not a group for you.
  • Be respectful. As far as possible, please always be friendly, respectful and comradely and treat others as you would wish to be treated.
-No members of other parties.
  • TERF is not a slur.

Labour really need some grown-ups to be seen dealing with this right now in order to defuse the situation and limit damage to the party.

This is entirely of their own making for putting a young confused and obviously highly easily influenced man in a post that he is in no way qualified to hold. They presumably thought they would get progressive virtue cookies for letting Madigan take a woman's post at no real cost (other than the negligible one of fucking women over that is). Well they were wrong because this is what happens when you let TRAs represent you.

Enough now, this young man and his supporters are an embarrassing liability in addition to being misogynistic. And if one of them does have a meltdown, breakdown or worse because of the inevitable resistance from women, Labour will only have themselves to blame.

Women will leave the party in their droves over this. Do Labour really want a bunch of self aggrandizing narcissistic entitled and deluded social justice warriors crashing about the place alienating core voters? They better decide quick smart and do something about this mess.

GuardianLions · 22/01/2018 13:29

My fear is that it will be polarised more into left and right and the gender critical will be aligned with the right.

I think the people trying to eject all gender critical people from the labour party are working hard to do this. Every gender critical person who leaves the labour party to these loons is doing their work for them.

It is important to expose what these little squirts are up to, so that labour state that gender critical views are welcome in the party, and these issues are recognised as cross-party, not left or right.

BeyondWW · 22/01/2018 13:31

Considering it's guido, the comments are actually okay...ish.

They're certainly not on the side of self-id, quite against the idea of random "meat and two veg" appearing from their dates - not that I expect them to be on the women's side either.

howonearthdidigethere · 22/01/2018 13:32

I will do, thanks.

Didn’t think the Guido comments were all that bad.

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 13:37

The boys who run guido are lovely. I’ve worked with them many times. I do a lot of work against antisemitism, and they have been amazing with that. The comments? Well don’t read them. Like the Mail. There’s tinfoil on the left and right I’m afraid.

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 13:38

Guido Fawkes now covering.

Good. Hopefully more will too. The comments are pretty predictable tbh. A lot of feminazis and such but most seem to find the whole 'men are women if they say they are' hilarious rather than enraging.

AbsintheFriends · 22/01/2018 13:40

Comments not too awful, apart from the one saying that 'women have all the power'. Err - in what parallel universe would that be? I'd like to go there.

I think the words 'self-identifying' should have appeared in the piece itself though. That's part of the madness.

horseyhorsey17 · 22/01/2018 13:40

Vicxy, I feel the same. I've never voted Tory and am not starting now but Labour is a seething nest of women-hating vipers. I'm not voting for either at the next GE. There is no party that comes even close to representing me. We need to start our own, like the WEP. But actually good.

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 13:40

Linking Lily and Owen Jones. Brilliant Guido

Yes, I liked that part too Grin

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 13:40

Because it is hilarious. It’s utterly surreal. Wasn’t there a woman who ID’d as black?! The left went postal about that, quite rightly, but this is all cool. Misogyny is the oldest discrimination.

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 13:42

I voted Tory Horsey. I’m not a Tory, but it’s about the least evil. I’ll vote Tory again provided it’s still moderate, and not hard right. The same way I will vote labour again, if it’s moderate and not hard left.

Deadlylampshade · 22/01/2018 13:42

I thibk it’s very telling that people say ‘but this only affects a tiny amount of the population’ as though women can’t be affected. It can’t possibly be that this affects more that half the population as only the trans people count.

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 13:42

Yeah, I bet they are wishing they had listened earlier to the many many people expressing concern about Lily.

There is definite panicking behind the scenes. Even more liekly now that sources are picking up on it and doing articles on it. This will surely force Labours hand, they will have to make some kind of a statement over it.

Well done Hammer for getting it 'out there' Flowers

Deadlylampshade · 22/01/2018 13:44

I also find it frustrating that they aren’t mentioning self id, that’s the most important bit it’s not just that trans women are allowed on AWS it’s that literally anyone can say ‘I’m a woman’ and get on

nauticant · 22/01/2018 13:44

A few years back I managed to shake off tribalism in how I look at UK politics (it took Blair's disastrous war in Iraq). It has been such a relief not having to feel obliged to support one thing or another according to which side is saying it.

EamonnWright · 22/01/2018 13:44

Yes, I liked that part too

I can't abide that wee arsepiece Smile

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 22/01/2018 13:45

I followed that ICO link and it won’t let me complain until I receive a response from the Party legal unit. My holding email said 10 days so will see...

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 13:45

The comments? Well don’t read them. Like the Mail. There’s tinfoil on the left and right I’m afraid.

Yes, I am about a left leaning as they come, but these days I am finding it easier to read the comments on the likes of guido and even the fucking mail, than I find the comments on 'papers' such as the guardian. At least the commenters on right wing sources do not try to hide what they are. The guardian comments all try to hide their extreme misoginy. And the guardian deletes anything that differs from this. Gives me the rage.

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 13:47

I can't abide that wee arsepiece

Embarassingly, as little as 2 years back, I used to post his stuff on my facebook with comemtns such as 'wish Owen was PM, he would sort everything out' Blush I went back and deleted the more fawning ones fairly recently. I was so..stupid and naive back then

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 13:47

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 13:49

Just waiting for Suzanne Moore.

nauticant · 22/01/2018 13:49

That announcement made me laugh even though I loathe Rod Liddle.

EamonnWright · 22/01/2018 13:49
