Labour Against Transphobia Facebook group

NotTerfNorCis · 19/01/2018 17:40

Lily Madigan and Aisling Musson are asking for 'screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour' so they can make Labour 'a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.' In other words, doxxing people so they can be thrown out of the party for gender-critical views.

The group write-up is:

A group formed to oppose the rising tide of Transphobia in the UK Labour Party and to seek to make the Party a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.

PLEASE READ THE PINNED POST

If you have screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour please put them in the google drive folder rather than offloading them straight into the group as it may otherwise be overwhelming and trans members should have the option to not have to look at upsetting comments.

Do not add anyone unless you are sure that they:

  1. Are a member of the Labour Party
  2. Believe the basis of gender is self-definition
  3. Think that transphobia is grounds for expulsion from the party
  4. Respect the autonomy of trans people to direct the fight against transphobia (I.e will not take decisions against the will of trans people)

If you are a trans and/or non binary person and you would like to be added to the secret group (trans/nb people only) please message lily madigan or aisling musson and we will add you.

Rules:

  • No advocacy for violence, threats of violence of other illegal acts (quite apart from the morality of it, please do not get this group shut down)
  • This is a not a discourse group. If you do not agree that transphobia is bad, that the Labour party has it and that we should fight it, this is not a group for you.
  • Be respectful. As far as possible, please always be friendly, respectful and comradely and treat others as you would wish to be treated.
-No members of other parties.
  • TERF is not a slur.

So 🖕 to all the TRAs saying "but it's in the public domain".
Nope, you're wrong.

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 12:59

"A persons name and address may already be in the public domain but that does not mean that it is any less personal data. Any processing of that data, including putting it on a website would have to comply with the Data Protection Act."

Interesting. I wonder if someone may have pointed this out to Lily and co and this is why they started deleting stuff. There was more than just publishing names too, pulishing membership numbers proves that the labour database was used in this whole sorry affair. Along with the 'pretty data' tweet (that I assume is deleted now since hes denying ever saying it) it seems quit eobvious to me who did that, and surely there will be a record of the database being naccessed and the searches made..

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2018 13:00

I got the feeling yesterday after this list appeared that it was about to get nasty. I fear it will get a lot worse yet too.

I don't see a way forward which doesn't end badly for someone, simply because there is so much emotional energy invested into it and the collision course is fully set, with few options for anyone to back down.

I don't get pleasure from knowing that there seems to be an inevitability about it now. At the same time, it can't be resolved without that.

Labour's inability to step up and defuse the situation certainly is not helping. But its not just about Labour either.

BelaLugosisShed · 22/01/2018 13:02

That’s good Hammer.
I’ve just followed you on twitter ( HelenLVZ ) .
I love what Jennifer is doing but she has a massive blind spot where Corbyn is concerned , as does Venice.

FreiasBathtub · 22/01/2018 13:02

I've just realised /remembered (going back over notes from a work training course) that political party membership/political beliefs is the very definition of sensitive personal data under the DPA and the GDPR.

There ought to be a VERY hefty fine coming for the Labour Party if they don't take this seriously. I cannot imagine any legal basis that justifies this processing of data confirming political party membership, never mind the disclosure/breach.

At work, I would expect to be sacked for this. It's gross misconduct.

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 13:04

Thanks sweetheart, I don’t want to bring Corbyn in to it, it needs to be across parties. Are we women outraged? Yes! Have we got a voice? Yes! Forget dogma and silly tribalism, That’s what got us here in the first place. Lovely to meet you all btw.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 22/01/2018 13:04

I think it's going to get utterly vicious Red. My fear is that it will be polarised more into left and right and the gender critical will be aligned with the right. Student politics is so rigid now and there is no room for dissent on the left

On the other hand, it could lead to utter trashing if Identity npolitics, which would be no bad thing

AbsintheFriends · 22/01/2018 13:05

cuntysnark There are a few of us on these boards in the same situation with teenage DCs. I had a horrible falling out with one of mine over Christmas, which completely shook me (I had no idea how intransigent her views were and thought she just didn't understand the issues, so persisted in trying to explain. It took a while to dawn on me that she'd swallowed the cultish dogma.) The wisdom I've found here has helped me to accept it, and understand that I don't have to share my views with my family, or justify them. And to see that it's fundamentally a generational issue, not a personal one. A terfy hug from me though - it's upsetting.

So glad that this is going public. It needs to be exposed to proper robust discussion.

Sparklingbells · 22/01/2018 13:06

@Hammerofthetwat I’ve sent you a PM

BeyondWW · 22/01/2018 13:06

Seems I already follow you both, hammer and bela Grin

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 22/01/2018 13:12

Me too

horseyhorsey17 · 22/01/2018 13:14

Good luck Hammer. Loads of women support you. The people attacking you don't get a free pass because they are 'vulnerable,' and they certainly haven't cared about the gender critical women they're been targeting being vulnerable either. We all know what they think about 'TERFs.' I've always voted Labour but I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole with Corbyn in charge, and the likes of Madigan turning the party into a weird MRA stronghold. I strongly suspect he doesn't care if Labour implodes at the moment as he doesn't want to have to win a GE and deal with Brexit. All this infighting is working for him.

It's shit for us though.

JollyJuniper · 22/01/2018 13:18

So let me get this straight Madigan has a another page set up on Facebook as a cover story for the original one and the cover photo used is a picture saying down with cis is that correct?

Ie down with biological women?

I voted labour in the past but I never will again.

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 13:21

I know horsey. I know. I’m in the middle of a MH crisis myself, unrelated, but this needs to be done. Don’t get me started on Corbyn. I don’t like people that cover up child abuse. I can see where Lilly gets this gaslighting from. Corbyn did it to the Islington child abuse survivors.

Lovely to meet you all. I’m going to sleep, I must take some meds and chill the fuck out, I’ve been at this now for hours and am exhausted. And still in crisis. Big love people xxx

Deadlylampshade · 22/01/2018 13:21

That’s right jolly
Lily claims that it obviously means down with cisnormativism even though it doesn’t say that.

So is lily non binary?

howonearthdidigethere · 22/01/2018 13:22

Hi. Things are absolutely mad in work so I’ve just snuck on here to post but I can’t go through the whole thread. I don’t often post on here but I am very active irl, as much as I am able in my public-facing job. I’m not on the list at the moment, but I looked at it fully expecting to be, even though I don’t use any social media.

I received the gofund me email asking for government ID which I queried with GFM but I haven’t heard back yet. I got a lot of spam at the weekend, including one asking my location. It’s got me really worried. What should I do? Sorry for asking others to do the legwork and not rtft.

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2018 13:23

order-order.com/2018/01/22/labour-trans-activists-circulate-radical-feminist-hit-list/

Guido Fawkes now covering.

Its not complimentary to anyone:
Good to know Labour are focusing on what everyone’s talking about down the Dog and Duck…

I'm not in the slightest bit surprised by the tone tbh.

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 13:25

Ah, that’s good. I contacted the Guido lads last night, they said it was a bit niche, but good to see this.

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2018 13:25

I dare not read comments. Guido's audience is... yeah well.

Vicxy · 22/01/2018 13:25

I don't get pleasure from knowing that there seems to be an inevitability about it now. At the same time, it can't be resolved without that.

I feel the same. And I have the same worry as assigned that this will turn into a left v right thing, the Tories will accept that male people are not female, and labour will keep the bollocks 'sex is meaningless' stance. Which will in turn alienate a lot of Labour voters. My main concern is come the next election there is noone for me to vote for. I will be damned to vote Tory. I am disabled and honestly, they have made my life fucking hell with their changes to disability benefits coupled with the ridiculous WCA getting even worse than it ever was, I am currently awaiting tribunal despite having literally a very thick folder full of medical evidence from my GP, the pain clinic and my consultant, including my many many A+E visits. The citizens advice beaurau were so certain of what would happen that they told me there is no chance at all that a judge will decide against me, and even said that my award would likely be changed from standard to higher. But I simply cannot vote for a party that refuses to acknowledge biological sex, as refusing to see sex is refusing to see sexism. As its realistically a choice betwen Tories and Labour, my vote would be useless even if I could find a party that stand against this bullshit. I hear UKIP do not believe it all, but no fucking way would I vote for them either.

howonearthdidigethere · 22/01/2018 13:25

Oh and I’m ex LP and still email my MP and CLP a lot.

DrudgeJedd · 22/01/2018 13:26

Report it asap to the Information Commissioner, I posted a link to the relevant web page on the other thread

JollyJuniper · 22/01/2018 13:26

Isn't it funny how when talking about madigan and cronies everyone has to be completely clear ie pronouns and names etc, but its ok for madigan to say "that's not what i meant" to every single little thing?

EamonnWright · 22/01/2018 13:27

Linking Lily and Owen Jones. Brilliant Guido Smile

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2018 13:29

I guess Guido's readership will give a good demonstration on what is transphobic abuse.
