Good news, presumably?
I want to know where that leaves a certain womens officer, surely that ruling counts for every Labour post?

Oh absolutely. It wasn't LM who I was referring to. Someone else down the feed said they weren't allowed to work at college. I was merely suggesting that might have been a little misleading if they were referring to an Oxbridge college with extensive bursary provision!

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 20/01/2018 22:54

Thanks datun.

But now I'm really confused. Why is it taking them so long to make a statement? I thought this was supposed to be really simple? Transwomen are women, right? So what's the hold up?

It's almost as though this is actually a lot more complicated than the TRAs are making out Shock

Datun · 20/01/2018 22:58

Trying to pretend self identification is already here is a stupid tactic.

By challenging, they are merely raising the issue. Highlighting the legality aspect and the problems of self ID.

Their own goals never cease.

sexnotgender · 20/01/2018 23:00

I thought they had issued a statement? Something about internal and external positions in the party? I might be wrong though.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 20/01/2018 23:11

I can't see anything on gofundme on my phone for some reason. Can anyone c and p?

I thought putting up a statement then taking it down with a bad tempered 'transwomen are women so fuck you all' was a bit stupid. But they just look like twats who know they are wrong and can't admit it.

JC tweeting about transwomen yesterday too. But not about this obviously, just supportive noises about transpeople but when actual leadership is required he's off somewhere else doing something very important.

Datun · 20/01/2018 23:12

Can you try googling go fund me Jennifer James?

Datun · 20/01/2018 23:13

Here

Funds now more than an amazing £17,000, well done all.

Unfortunately there are currently trans actvisists in CLPs who are organising to get the crowdfunder signatories, donors and supporters expelled from the Labour party. Please MAKE SURE TO attend upcoming CLP meetings and ensure debate stays open and free speech is retained.

This is a typical stalinist tactic being used by Labour trans activist men (not by trans ppl themselves by the way). In the absence of arguments, these men will sling mud at dissenters in a bid to threaten, silence, frighten and isolate us. Do not let them win.

We have a right to debate self-id in the party and attempts to stifle debate must be challenged. We have a right to believe and argue that men and women are classified by biology, not gender identity, and we have the right to form policy along these lines instead.

The picture below is of the latest trans activist CLP motion targetting gender critical women. This one is for Garston and Halewood CLP's meeting of next week and has been propsed by Jon Morris. The trans activists are organised and we must out-organise them to win this.

Incidentally the CLP chair for Garston and Halewood is Steve Walker or @skwawkbox as he is better known on twitter. We can confirm that @skwawkbox opposes all-women shortlists in the first place, so this motion comes as no surprise to us.

The NEC are due to announce the official Labour party position against self-identification on AWS next week. We predict that our legal position will be confirmed as CORRECT, possibly because self-id discriminates against men, ironically. If the party allows one man on an AWS it has to allow them all. We will update you as soon as we can.

Stay vigilant.

The Gender Critical Team

This is a screenshot of the statement by the CLP.

I'm not sure if you will be able to read it

Thanks datun. Sorry I don't know why my phone hates that site but it does. I can see your screenshot fine. Unfortunately, given how bloody depressing it all is...

Datun · 20/01/2018 23:21

I know. Sorry!

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 20/01/2018 23:37

No, thanks datun. For everything you're doing on here on this. You're definitely on the right side of history Smile

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 21/01/2018 00:46

Just want to confirm what pp said.

I have DH's passport renewal form in front of me now.

It asks for Gender, with two possible choice boxes; Male and Female.

I thought there were something like 35 possible genders these days?!

But there will only ever be two sexes Smile

Datun · 21/01/2018 00:48

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered

Well what happens if you put demi-sexual? Or fluid?

I so wish people would. I know it's a time waster, but it would make them think about the stupid bloody question.

thebewilderness · 21/01/2018 01:28

I think some people are now striking out the word gender and writing sex. I just told the youGov people this morning that I have no gender identity but I am a member of the female sex.

BarrackerBarmer · 21/01/2018 01:46

Even Mumsnet demands your 'gender' be male or female. I've tried before to have them change this to sex but to no avail.

My profile has gender:female. I can change it to gender:male but not gender: don'tbedaft. And not gender:AskMeMySexInsteadSoThatAdvertisersCanFlogMeTampons

If ever any website understood the implications of forcing a binary answer to a gender question, it's this one.

EggbertNobacon · 21/01/2018 02:21

Ah, see, I think asking gender is ok on websites etc when it's all about your identity, feelings etc.

On a passport or on a medical form or school application, sex is relevant. It's relevant because it affects how you look and how you can be identified by the authorities, or how a medication may act within your body or how a heart attack presents

Vicxy · 21/01/2018 02:26

But now I'm really confused. Why is it taking them so long to make a statement? I thought this was supposed to be really simple? Transwomen are women, right? So what's the hold up?

Yes, I think there may be some panicking behind the scenes over this. And a lot of arguing too. Still expecting the statement to be that transwomen with no GRC are fine to stand on AWS though. Always expect the worst then you won't be disappointed, and if the news is good its a bonus. Bit pessimistic but does me good.

Annoys the hell out of me when places ask for gender, with male and female options. Just ask for fucking sex, which is whats needed and whats imortant.

Vicxy · 21/01/2018 02:29

I expect Labour are terrified of this whole thing tbh. They will lose a lot of support if they do what the transactivists want and expell gender critical women. But if they do the right thing, they will face the wrath of a bunch of angry male people.

Datun · 21/01/2018 08:03

It takes a certain kind of phoniness, to identify a need for women only train carriages, and in exactly the same breath, support a law that says any man can enter them.

If a politician like Jeremy Corbyn can hold both those opinions, the unworkable thinking behind it needs to be exposed.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 21/01/2018 08:10

Indiscriminate virtue signalling is what it is.

Batteriesallgone · 21/01/2018 10:13

I think maybe he just wants women to be someone else’s problem

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 21/01/2018 10:21

It seems to me to just be a variation on the usual approach. 1) pretend you think it matters that women are having a shit time 2) institute measures to improve their experience (e.g., legislate against rape) 3) make sure the teeth are drawn from the measures so men remain unconstrained (e.g., fail to prosecute rape).

I don't know why they bother really, the message is pretty clear either way.

Popchyk · 21/01/2018 10:38

I think there is great panicking behind the scenes. The clarification that came last week from Rhea Wolfson from Labour NEC was that men need a GRC to be considered for AWS.

And then that was withdrawn awaiting "clarification", presumably after Rhea Wolfson was contacted multiple times by men accusing her of transphobia.

So, if Labour stick to their original guns (and the law as it stands), then these men need a GRC. That means that any man currently on an AWS who does not have a GRC needs to get off it. And we'd need clarification on women's officers and the Jo Cox Leadership in Women programme, both of which specify that you have to be a woman.

Switch to self-ID and Labour get a legal challenge. The Equality Act 2010 specifically provides provision for AWS which can be used until 2030. Even Jack Monroe says she has two different lawyers looking into this and both have indicated that there could be a case for legal action. A legal challenge will damage the party whatever happens. Even if Labour do switch to self-ID, lose the legal challenge and then have to kick out the blokes, this will be very damaging to them. If they actually win the legal challenge, the publicity will turn off a large number of female voters.

And they'll never be able to bring in self-ID in the future because the stupid bastards will never get into power. And nor should they if they drag this ridiculous affair out any further. It hardly gives you confidence that they can actually run a country, does it?

QuentinSummers · 21/01/2018 11:30

What is frustrating me is that women have been saying this increasingly over the past 5 years or so. If Labour (and the other parties) had actually listened and engaged rather than writing our concerns off as bigoted/"purported feminists" they could have avoided this total mess.
