AIBU GoFundMe addiction

I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

I've tried different email addresses, different postcodes and different cards and still blocking me.

BelligerentGardenPixies · 19/01/2018 19:03

It has to have come from inside gofundme, even if it is phishing from a throwaway account as there is no way of guessing my email address from the public info on the donations list.

Even if I had donated in my real name, there would have been no way of guessing my email address.

GoFundMe are screwed if they've let someone use protected info.

NotTerfNorCis · 19/01/2018 19:04

@ATeardropExplodes It may be your IP address. Can you connect to the internet some other way?

ATeardropExplodes · 19/01/2018 19:06

Yes I can, I will use the laptop to try later.

I do suspect insider dealings here. Which would be highly illegal. If it wasn't towards a group of bigots of course, anything is allowed when it is us bigoted women.

I am so fucking angry.

HemlockSpartacus · 19/01/2018 19:06

I think they are being disingenuous to refund over people using pseudonyms, however I can kind of see why they are doing it, they are covering their own backs.

This doesn't mean that they, or their staff, are doxxing people.

It would be easy enough to confirm those are legitimate emails, and if they are not then that would need to be investigated. The consequences if staff share confidential info is a very large fine, both for the individual and the company.

HairyBallTheorem · 19/01/2018 19:06

Can someone who knows JJs e-mail send her links to this thread and the phishing one? I know she's sort of aware, but it needs to be hammered home that if these emails are indeed phishing attempts whoever is sending them has to have insider information because they are connecting up the pseudonym people have put on the public page with the email and bank card they used to donate.

God, I have had a long week and I could just cry reading this.

What is happening in this world. I feel like Alice in Wonderland Sad

BarrackerBarmer · 19/01/2018 19:16

Can someone who received the emails clarify:

Did you receive one email with a refund, and a separate, second email fishing for ID?

Or one which both processed the refund AND asked for ID?

ATeardropExplodes · 19/01/2018 19:18

I only got the refund email not a request for info.

Tried on another computer and blocked.

Hoppinggreen · 19/01/2018 19:24

Best £50 I’ve spent this week!!,

BelligerentGardenPixies · 19/01/2018 19:25

When I've looked again at my GoFundMe profile and I'm not sure the first donation has actually been refunded yet (it is showing that I have made two donations), although the donation under Objective Reality longer shows up on the donation list. This would legistamise the "ID" email somewhat as it did say that I had 48hrs to submit proof of ID, link to campaign or links to my social media and if I didn't, then I would be refunded.

I don't know if that means they'll refund my second anonymous donation too. Doesn't matter. I can easily set up a new account with a different IP/email address and card details... and I'll increase the amount again, so Neer Boo, Shucks to the women silencers.

BelligerentGardenPixies · 19/01/2018 19:26

I only got one email - the request for info one.

ATeardropExplodes · 19/01/2018 19:26

She really has got them rattled hasn't she? Bloody hell. I knew they wouldn't like it but they know that the test case would go against them.

Never seen anything like it.

Whensday · 19/01/2018 19:28

I only got one email. It simply says:

Hi X,

A refund of £5.00 has been issued for the payment you made to Keep All-Women Shortlists Female!. The money you were charged will be returned to you within 3-7 business days.

Whensday · 19/01/2018 19:29

I'm making another donation - doubling it this time.

ATeardropExplodes · 19/01/2018 19:29

I got that same one as Whensday..

ATeardropExplodes · 19/01/2018 19:29

If you can...

Whensday · 19/01/2018 19:30

Where's a good lawyer when you need one

catgirl1976 · 19/01/2018 19:31

I've not been refunded but I was anonymous

I've donated again

Shame though as I was planning on donating under Winston Smith. I've jsut done anon again though

Try using private browsing as well

BelligerentGardenPixies · 19/01/2018 19:34

Whensday - did you donate under somebody else's name or a phrase?

It's odd that I got an email requesting ID but people who donated under say Jack whatshisface didn't. I mean, it's possible that two people could share the same name - shouldn't they have checked with them first before immediately refunding, rather than with someone who has obviously used a joke pseudonym?

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 19/01/2018 19:37

Apologies in advance to anyone who self-identifies as 'Almighty God'. Shout out to my ex.^

Good to see her keeping a sense of humor about this. 3rd donation from me once I'm paid because of all this.

What's that pride and prejudice quote?

There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises with every attempt to intimidate me.

GuardianLions · 19/01/2018 19:39

If anyone feels shaken and upset by these developments - I just doubled my donation and I feel much better for it.
