AIBU GoFundMe addiction

I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

According to Jack Monroe, Go Fund Me have agreed to remove posts in other people's names and refund the donor.

I think using the wrong names was funny at first but went to far. Jack was doing a good job staying out of this but by someone naming her, it dragged her in and she will always take the ally position.

Fwiw I am a big Jack Monroe fan. She doesn't deserve half the crap she gets.

Anyway I have wondered whether some of the deadnaming/outrageous donations are trans ppl trying to make "TERFs" look bad.

I think she is absolutely awful. She lost 100 followers onTwitter after ‘sticking up for trans women’ and said that ‘the trash takes itself out’ then revelled in all the virtue cookies she was showered with and allowed some really hateful talk about terfs being pieces of shit to stand. She’s an attention seeking nightmare and the fact that she has known poverty and is threatening the person who donated in her name with legal action when they’re probably just an ordinary Labour supporter is vile.

Nobody named Jack Monroe, who has no right to own that name (how long has she had that name anyway), until she decided to pick a fight for no obvious reason.
Most of the donations linked to profiles in other names so no confusion at all. Refunding is silly.

The donation in her name appeared after she tweeted saying nobody better make a donation in my name or I'll sue with both my lawyers.
She has no right to be bullying gofundme with silly threats about her silly name.

I thought Jack Monroe was called something else now and Jack was her 'deadname' or something?

I'm sure she will have been waiting for someone to donate in her name for a joke so she can get all over it and make it all about her as she always does.

The number of donations has gone down again. It looks like Gofundme are returning donations.

Agree it wasn't a good idea to put up other people's names. As usual women have to be absolutely humourless, beyond reproach and perfect in behaviour - not to be taken seriously, but to escape being forcibly shut down by men by giving them no possible grounds. Any excuse they give will be used against them.

However men and those supporting the male dominated view may be as 'hyperbolic' as they like with death and rape threats, ageism, sexism, and that's perfectly all right, despite being against the law. Because male privilege. Just bantz innit?

The cognitive dissonance is clanging like big fucking ben.

GoFundMe have confirmed they don't refund if people have namechanged. They explicitly allow name changes.

Their rules do not allow refunds for "I changed my mind, or I regret my donation"

I'm not sure what is happening but the number of donors and the total is dropping.
