I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

I got a refund email that have no reason for my refund.

Barracker - I haven't replied, like fuck am I going to send them photo ID to anyone via email but yes the email it was sent from is [email protected]. The zendesk look suss to me.

I have been refunded but they won't let me donate again. Apparently there is a problem with the organiser's account.

Phew, the money and numbers have started going up again. :)

That really looks like a throwaway spam email address.

I haven't donated yet, and - given that I've had TRAs try to get me disciplined/sacked from my job, for my retweeting of gender-critical stuff under my RL name - I was going to donate anonymously. Because if I donate under my name, I think I will get a further shower of shite at work. (Yes, this is what it is now - job threatened because of political views).

Can we simply send a cheque (how old-fashioned) to Jennifer James or another the Woman's Place UK organisation?

I think the zen desk one is real according to JJ. But can someone who has a copy of the email asking for ID etc who has her on twitter send her a copy?

The only way would be via gofundme directly, as emails are not visible even on donations that have people's real names on.

Beyond - but the emails are being sent to the people who've put pseudonyms on the donation page.

To send out these emails, the sender has to know three things - the name on your bank card, the name you put on the donation page (in order to be able to say the two don't match) and your email. Two out of three of these should be confidential and stored securely by Gofundme.

If the emails aren't genuine, but are phishing emails, then that means either Gofundme has been hacked (as happened with Mumsnet a few years back, or TalkTalk more recently) or they have a sys-admins person deliberately leaking details to a third party.

It will have to have been from a staff member. If true this would be a disaster for gofundme.

zendesk is probably legit - it's a means of handling support requests. But yes, I would exercise caution.

I believe JJ is contacting gofundme to find out what on earth is going on.

Can anyone DM a copy of the email asking for ID including the email address? I don't have one as I used my real name. I will forward it on to JJ.

Hmmm donated in my own (unusual) name on Wednesday and my FB account now had attempted hack? Coincidence? Probably. But can't be too careful.

I blocked zendesk and now can't see the email. I'll try and see if I can recover it and will email directly to JJ if I can.

I don't know usernames but I wouldn't take anyone's word yet that it's a legit email. I wouldn't under any circumstances send any details through it.

If you aren't sure of the email then I think the best thing to do would be to contact GoFundMe directly and ask them if the email is legitimate.

I wouldn't trust GoFundMe any more, after the possibility of it being staff that have refunded and contacted people.
