AIBU GoFundMe addiction

I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

Jack is reporting to go fund me and they are contacting donors asking them to prove they are jack monroe or Owen Jones by submitting ID. If they can't then the donations are refunded

@Ekphrasis it started out that way with me. Surely these people will have a reasonable ear for basic facts. We are grown ups. Nope. They tell you they were born Women, never been men. Even guys who didn't trans till they were 50.

So that's your starting point and it's downhill from there. It's impossible to work with and you're getting abuse so it's easy to lash out.

It's hard hard graft.

They refunded me because I self-identified as Justine Greening (which I thought was quite funny).

Anyway, I'm trying to donate again and it won't let me. Have I been banned?

@Ekphrasis You are so right about that. As soon as tweeters start to mention cult and get emotional, then it look like 'conspiracy nutters' and people stick their fingers in their ears.

There are a lot of facts around and so much in the way of resources that Womans Place and others have put in the public domain, and are working on. So many assumptions to challenge.

I was refunded too - I did one anonymously, and one for £7 under a fake name - not a real person; both were refunded.

I've tried to re-donate, but it won't let me.

Just cleared all my cookies, and will try again, or do it under another email address.

Despite the loud declarations of LyraPotter, claiming she loves it that TERFs are 'wasting their money' - they do seem absolutely furious that the fundraiser has been so successful.

They've tried everything to get the fundraiser shut down, and they're trying to get people expelled from the Labour party - and now this.

I appreciate that EamonnWright. I found myself getting dragged into a discussion where I was called a bigot so I became very sarky. actually I think it was quite clever sarcasm but I ended up deleting it all and blocking the guy as I simply couldn't bare it. I felt stressed. Twitter scares me terribly. I'm only dipping in occasionally. I find if I'm taking to moral high ground I don't feel emotional. But then, I'm coming from an place of little experience of actual misogyny in real life. I know if id suffered terribly as a result of my sex I'd definitely be getting more emotive.

I'm proud that a few statements o made recently have been liked and rt lots of times. I agree a woman's place is an excellent example of how to pitch statements.

It's a small victory though Barracker. Bit inconvenient for those who are refunded but in the end it will probably end up meaning more donations not less (I doubled mine), so just let them get on with their fascist circle jerk.

For those struggling with their inner snark demon - there are plenty of Facebook Groups where you can allow them to get out for a bit of a run (especially if it's a closed group) so that you can stay focused and rational when on other pages and not put off the uninitiated with the withering scorn that cannot be held down. Everything is Transphobic is a good page for that.

That said, my inner snark has taken over recently after, what I thought was a reasonable discussion on the proposed gender bill, was taken over by a TIM who was willfully misrepresenting, throwing out straw-men and ad hominins a plenty, along with hijacking any other convo with emotionally manipulative durges about how they were just a "poor tender hearted lambkin who couldn't fathom what the meanie women were saying". Note to self - I need to learn to disengage before I undo my good work.

I haven't been refunded but donated again anyway just to keep things topped up.

I'm not sure that making everyone feel silenced all over again is going to have the desired effect at this point

They've shot themselves in the foot though. The more they try to silence us - and this is just another way of them doing so - the more we will keep speaking up, keep donating, keep pushing back.

I am utterly horrified by this.

And these people objecting to the fundraising - effectively they are objecting to women maintaining and protecting their existing rights under the law. We are being prevented from donating money to a legitimate concern

I don't recognise this country any more. This is scandalous

It's insane that trans activists - a movement AFAICT about appropriating other people's names - have changed the way Gofundme has worked FOREVER, and just decided 'you can't use a silly name, only trans people are allowed silly names'

How does that even happen?>

Those of you who have been refunded, did they give you a reason why?

If you used a real name that was not your own, did they actually contact you to check? I know loads of people with famous namesakes (James Bond, Neil Armstrong and Michael Jackson, to name just a few) and would be really pissed off if a donation I had made was rejected because Jack Monroe knew of a celebrity with the same name!

If you used a jokey name/slogan for the sole purpose of being displayed on their website (ie, not for fraudulent purposes), on what grounds was your donation rejected? If a joke name is not acceptable, then they could surely anonymise it? You clearly wanted to make that donation, on a site set up for that purpose - what right do they have to decide that JJ can't have your money?

I can't find anything on GoFundMe about refusing donations. The only thing I can find about fraud refers to the campaign organiser misrepresenting themselves or their aims.

And now they appear to be actively preventing you from donating again?

WTF is going on?

"Update 8", marked as "1 hour ago" from JJ at gofundme saying "Apparently it's NOT fine to donate on behalf of Almighty God, "Christabel Pankhurst" or "Objective Reality"...donate as anonymous or in your own name"'. For people who are The Most Oppressed Ever In The History Of The World, they certainly get their own way, plus more, rather a lot.
I haven't been refunded as yet, but as I donated in my Twitter account name, (which I consider as legit as any pen name), it may happen. So I'm going back now to give double my original donation, just because I'm so fucking angry.
