"Look how far we have come" says Paris Lees in a feature celebrating 100 years since women have had the right to vote in the UK.

Em except - your sex have always had the right to vote.

Or am I missing something?

But she's not in the guiness book of records for having a beard. She has PCOS. (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom).

I ran a local support group for women with PCOS for many years. Many have that level of facial hair. Some spend time and money trying to get rid of it. One or two don't. (I think they are really brave not to. Wish I had the courage).

Oh, sorry, forgot to mention - as a result of my having PCOS, if I didn't spend hods of cash on hair removal, I would have a beard like that. (And Harnaam is in the guiness book of records as the youngest woman to have a full beard too).

anonymice · 05/01/2018 12:15

we know that. Facial hair is why I am sitting here with mild chemical burns. Conforming to stupid GENDER STEREOTYPES. Which the Vogue awards did nothing to change at all. No women in wheelchairs, no women with facial hair. Just same old same old shiny frocks and high heels. So womanly. Much female. How much longer do women have to stay restricted in these spaces?

MyAuntyBadger · 05/01/2018 12:17

ALunerExplorer you try and change the subject on every thread. And tell lies - a lot. Why don't you start your own thread in chat about women with facial hair or pcos? This thread isn't about that.

Oblomov18 · 05/01/2018 12:19

Paris Lees? What a dick he is.

PositivelyPERF · 05/01/2018 12:21

Aw well, that's me wrong then. I also fell into the trap of letting you derail the thread, so well done, you got me.

Now back to the thread. I'm seriously fucked off but not surprised that Trans identifying men have muscled their way into these very public areas. What better opportunity could they have than the celebration of women's right to vote? I'm actually more disgusted with the handmaidens that are not only supporting them, but elbowing women out if the way in order to user the TIMs in.

ALunerExplorer · 05/01/2018 12:22

I was responding to a point raised by other posters, and if there is anything in what I have said you believe to be untrue, please do let me know which bits those are.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 05/01/2018 12:26

Well this story pissed me right off

Boredofwinternow · 05/01/2018 12:26

The handmaidens are the worst. Cowardly and idiotic. They have completely sold themselves out. What they don't realise is that their capitulation will never be enough. These men despise them.

QuentinSummers · 05/01/2018 12:28

This bit
I know many cis women who look like Danielle Muscato
Followed by a link to a woman, who you may or may not know, who looks nothing like Danielle Muscato as "evidence.

You do not know many women who have male pattern baldness, and all the other male secondary sexual characteristics e.g. a male build, body shape, lack of breasts, male pattern body hair and a beard.
You might know women who have one or two of those characteristics. But not all of them so they look like Danielle Muscato.
It's bollocks
Right, enough of the derail. I'm going to ice a cake.

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 12:40

It's a good point. They won't include disabled women in their feature but are more than happy to include a transwoman.

YY they could have had a Paralympian if they specifically wanted a celebrity.

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 12:40

Right, enough of the derail. I'm going to ice a cake.

Grin ALuner's cake should be looking good now too!

Xenophile · 05/01/2018 13:02

Is ALuner actually Perfectly or is there more than one whataboutery technician on here now?

Datun · 05/01/2018 13:04

I don't read Vogue, so I have no idea how feminist it is. Or isn't.

But do they really think it's good PR to celebrate women's liberation using a man who thinks that fucking weeping women is hot?

Glowerglass · 05/01/2018 13:07

WTF is wrong with Vogue? I suppose no actual women buy it.

DeleteOrDecay · 05/01/2018 13:41

Currently discussing this with an acquaintance on twitter. It's not going well. They seem to think Paris Lees is inspiringConfused

silkpyjamasallday · 05/01/2018 13:46

I was really disappointed when I saw this. I have a subscription to Vogue, I have for over a decade, I've been really impressed with Enninful so far, especially in terms of the ethnic diversity of the models he has used, and the thoughtful piece on women artists last month. But including Paris Lees in a piece celebrating the centenary of (some) women's right to vote is crass and naive. I would have no objection to transwomen being included in the magazine on subjects they can weigh in on, the fashion and beauty that is the main focus of Vogue. Celebrating the anniversary of the end of one form of sex based oppression, which women couldn't and still can't identify out of, is not the right place to include men who wish to identify as female. Especially not someone like Paris who considers harassment to be positive, whose entire life revolves around conforming to gender based stereotypes that harm women and whose male privilege shines out like a beacon when they think it's appropriate for them to voice their opinion as if speaking for all women. Vogue has been shortsighted here.

anonymice · 05/01/2018 13:58

do people NOT SEE the disconnect between one who has led a male life choosing to lead a female life (whatever the fuck that means to them) and females transitioning to males? I cannot imagine GQ choosing a transman to stand for men in a squillion years ! Only women are ever required to budge up and make more room. How do people like Stella Creasy think that Paris Lees's experience can talk to women? Paris Lees's experience has a place, but that place is not taking up space talking over women!

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 14:04

Paris Lees does talk to a certain breed of (often young, but not all) porn and prostitution supporting, "sex positive intersectional feminists". Generally fans of postmodernism and queer theory. I've seen women like that rubbish sexual harassment in online discussions and claim women alleging it are just attention seeking.

misskelly · 05/01/2018 14:07

I was delighted to see someone on Sky news this morning pointing out how offensive this is to the suffragettes.

You know what would have been inspiring? Seeing someone like me on the cover, 40+, size 16 and short. I laughed when I saw this photo when I realised that as an short, chubby biological women I have never or will ever have the chance to feature in Vouge but a biological male presenting as a women will most definitely be acceptable.

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 14:10

I'd rather see Katie Hopkins on the cover than Paris Lees.

SophoclesTheFox · 05/01/2018 14:11

Tracking back here, but the quotation about having a wank in a warm bath of somebody else’s oppression came from the wonderful Born Not Made blog- can’t remember if it was a gem from Chekistocrat or Ammonitey, but it’s a belter. I stole it and brought it here Grin

And Yy to suffragettes turning in their grave that all their battl s have come to this...

Boredofwinternow · 05/01/2018 14:11

Who was it on Sky News, misskelly? I didn't see that.

littlebillie · 05/01/2018 14:12

Grim ffs

BeyondWW · 05/01/2018 14:13

Luner: Loads of women look like DM see?

Umm... DM has shaved his beard, so if that is the sole factor that proves they are the same then I look more like DM than she does...

JessicaEccles · 05/01/2018 14:13

an short, chubby biological women

But do you look like Danielle Muscato? Because you could have just said 'ACTUALLY I'm a TIM' and they'd have put you on the cover Grin
