No sorry @womansplaceuk

Annoyed with the "self identifying woman" who piped up and stole the last question
The one who said that self-IDing might break all gender barriers?

I sat with her after. She was sound. She wants to get rid of gender, not sex.

BarrackerBarmer · 18/01/2018 00:50

Stole the last question....from me!

You'll never know what gems I might have offered 😎

Sounds to have gone well, then :)

I swear I will make it to the next one. After the pretty impressive snowfall and Tuesday’s two hour commute I didn’t want to risk not getting home.

UrsulaPandress · 18/01/2018 08:11

Me too Doob. I didn't go for that very reason.

Apologies for the link to the Penis News but it's good to see that the Quakers accepted the right for this issue to be discussed openly and didn't bow to pressure from the transactivists. If any of the Quakers came along they will have seen that it was a calm, respectful discussion, not the hate fest that transactivists want to portray it as.

Wow, the Manchester meeting looks like it was really brilliant. There's another meeting coming up in Bristol for anyone who wants to come to that.

That Penis News article is desperate.

EamonnWright · 19/01/2018 08:49

The pink news and others need to be very careful, Quakers are very well respected. They do a lot of great work.

redshoeblueshoe · 19/01/2018 13:32

Yes, that Pink News item is shocking.

MaidOfStars · 19/01/2018 14:35

Ah Barracker, I would have liked to say hello to you!

Last woman, if we are thinking of the same person, was all for self-ID as it would expose gender identity as the wide-ranging, legally meaningless mishmash of individual personalities it actually is. Gender ID as a means to legislate would become useless. It’s quite an interesting idea.

If it is this girl, I can assure you all that she was absolutely implacably opposed to biological males being in women’s spaces.

MaidOfStars · 19/01/2018 14:40

And for the record, as I may have inadvertently misrepresented her, her premise was to let people self-ID as whatever they want, but this should not feed into sex protections. So she’s arguing we should hit the law at that level, rather than opposing gender ID laws, IYSWIM?

BarrackerBarmer · 19/01/2018 18:33

I would have liked to say hello too MaidOfStars! Unfortunately I spent half the meeting dreading the solitary walk back to the deserted car park so didn't go to the after party drinks. #CisPrivilege

I did keep looking around to see if I could spot a mumsnet aura emanating from anyone

MaidOfStars · 20/01/2018 14:39

I had a run in with two blokes at the taxi rank, who couldn’t see a problem with:

  1. bumping me away from talking with the driver.
  2. leaning up against my rucksack after the driver told them he was talking to me.

I told them both to move away. They didn’t get it. I had to say ‘Do you really think it’s appropriate to harass a line female late at night, to touch her belongings, to breathe down her neck?’

Still utterly clueless about what they’d done.

moofolk · 25/01/2018 19:01

Beatrix Campbell's speech from last week is now up on YouTube. Others to follow. :)

moofolk · 31/01/2018 12:10

All Manchester woman's place uk meeting speakers are now up on YouTube if you missed it, along with speeches from other meetings. I'd highly recommend getting to, or trying to get organised, a meeting in your area if there hasn't been one so far. Bristol and Glasgow I believe are in the pipeline. :)
