No problem. I seem to have my very own version of the Mumsnet spreadsheet - only this one is full of trans evidence links. Grin

PersianCatLady · 07/12/2017 22:54

After reading that job description it makes me realise just how unsuited Lily is for the job.

Rather than encourage women to join and support the party, Lily is encouraging them to leave.

Another thing, Lily considers herself to be a woman just like every other woman when it suits but claims to be a transwoman when it suits to be different to other women. You can't have it all your own way.

christinarossetti · 07/12/2017 23:36

Thanks betsy and Datun. That exposes the 'trans teens at high risk of suicide/have attempted suicide/will attempt suicide' narrative for the irresponsible ideological bollocks that it is.

Datun · 08/12/2017 06:33

christinarossetti

It shows they are not at a high risk of suicide. It doesn’t show that they don’t attempt it.

But again, the figures have been manipulated. Claiming they were taken from cohort of 2000 when in actual fact it was 27.

Nonetheless, there is a consensus that trans people in general are at risk of suicidal thoughts/possible attempts. But the same goes for other minorities, LGB, the disabled, etc.

It’s using suicide as leverage which comes across as highly manipulative. Particularly when you see the actual statistics.

Collidascope · 08/12/2017 06:53

Oh the irony of that second tweet.

Why can a man or teenage boy self identify as a woman based on a feeling? The GRA propose to make this law and therefore legislate women out of existence as a class, what better way to discriminate than legislate a group out of existence? If one cannot see sex one cannot see sexism, feminist analysis becomes hate speech. In any other circumstance people have assessments for legal recognition - my mum has to prove that she is disabled, despite being terminally ill and residing in hospital (4 months now). The Conservatives propose a 'rape clause' for child benefit - one must prove conception was through rape. Pregnant women are assessed by a doctor to gain medical notes if they need time off before they are 'showing'. But a boy says he is a woman? Sure! Women have been so dehumanised that we are merely a costume, constructed in pink and make-up.

christinarossetti · 08/12/2017 08:35

It's the conflating of 'being trans' with 'suicide' that's so dishonest and dangerous.

As said elsewhere, it goes against all the guidance by organisations like The Samaritans who has put years of thought into them.

Ie talk about suicidal thoughts as a relatively common state of mind that it's important to tell someone about so that you can receive help. Not an almost inevitable consequence of eg being trans or feeling misunderstood.

It's really a really irresponsible and dangerous narrative to be pushing

Fekko · 08/12/2017 08:36

Show me a teenager who doesn't 'feel different'.

What does being a female feel like? I'm not certain but I'm prettt sure that boobs and a lack of a willy is on there somewhere.

christinarossetti · 08/12/2017 08:45

I've been thinking along those lines too history is.

Abortion is still technically illegal under the Offences Against the Person Act. The 1967 Abortion Act created loopholes inasmuch that women are permitted an abortion on the say so of two doctors, but it's technically unlawful for a woman to induce her own termination at any point in a pregnancy.

And globally many women don't even have this degree of 'permitted' bodily autonomy when the only person ultimately who lives with the consequences of an unwanted pregnancy (whatever happens or whatever decisions are made) is the person whose body the pregnancy was/is in.

Obvs far too 'triggering' to be brought into discussions

Datun · 08/12/2017 08:51

And that’s another aspect. How many transwomen say they are triggered by the mere mention of female biology?

Is Lily one of those? Did someone ask Lily that?

Ludicrous nonsense.

Historykid · 08/12/2017 09:04

A great Twitter thread on this:
‘The places that women are fighting to keep segregated right now are all places of physical vulnerability: toilets, changing rooms. The places that we are fighting to desegregate are all places of the mind & spirit: lectures, universities, places of worship. In both cases, the current academic, self-regarding, Foucauldian left's dogma is opposed to those moves. The acceptable position seems to be to keep women intellectually & spiritually apart from men, but allow for physical mixing when naked. Both demands - for intellectual parity & physical safety - are spoken & written about in medicalised language. Islamophobia, transphobia. It's a kind of deep pornification of the public sphere: a legislative push to keep our minds separate but our bodies available and visible’.

CautionTape · 08/12/2017 09:17

The whole thing is ridiculous.

The whole point of women's officers is to ensure that the sex whose biology and socialisation has been used to make them second class get a fairer crack.

How can someone whose biology and socialisation is white, male and privileged do that? Just how?

How can Lily and the Labour Party not see that growing up white, male and middle class is the Christmas hamper of privilege?

ifitquackslikeaduck "What they should have said in the interview is something like 'well, you say transwomen are women so we won't need to discuss any trans issues at all as you're a woman. So, onto women's issues .. what are your opinions on x and y and how are you planning on improving access to these?"

I see your point. But in a way, it's a good that they remain fixated on "transwoman is woman" because otherwise we'd just be listening to a man posing as a woman and whatever comments he has to make on those issues. I think that's their ultimate aim and as long as they are stuck on having to explain trans matters, they won't get to the next section.

PersianCatLady · 08/12/2017 14:28

Ifitquacks
Thanks for the link about Mhari Black.

Mari and Lily are polar opposites.

Yup i would like to know Lily's views on the everyday stuff of being a woman: VAT on san pro, maternity pay, the high cost of child care, breast screening, HRT.

Fekko · 08/12/2017 16:01

He wouldn't really care because those things don't matter to him. That is the problem - he comes across as someone with one fixed agenda and not one scrap of interest in anything else. Much like a self obsessed teenag... oh hang on.

Fekko · 08/12/2017 16:01

Can we get him in a debate with Mhari? I don't think she'd have much patience.

CautionTape · 08/12/2017 16:04

True fekko but at some point Lily must be forced to move beyond the trans agenda.

It's only right they are asked repeatedly what their views are and what they intend to do.

That, after all, is the job of a woman's officer.

If asking a woman's officer what they think about women's issues is trans phobic and off the table then that needs to be exposed and quickly.

poshme · 08/12/2017 17:02

persiancatlady I 100% agree with your post.

I have NO issue with people who need to going through a medical & counselling-led process to transition. Which ensures safeguards are in place for society as a whole AND for that person.

But the law may change next year so that people can self declare, and get a new birth certificate, and 'become' the other sex despite no medical professionals being involved.

I do not think this protects society (particularly women) or the person.

LangCleg · 08/12/2017 17:10

Hi Lily - what are your views about the fact that 85% of cuts under austerity have fallen on women? What priority should UK Labour give to this?

Hi Lily - what are your thoughts about the current medical scandal over vaginal mesh? What steps should be taken by UK Labour in response?

Hi Lily - full decriminalisation or Nordic model? What position should UK Labour take? And why?

Hi Lily - what are your views on exclusion zones around abortion clinics? Are there such clinics any in your constituency?

Hi Lily - how do you feel about medical gatekeeping for women who want sterilisation and/or hysterectomies? Should UK Labour take a position?

Hi Lily - what's your position on WASPI women? How high on UK Labour's priority list should this issue be?

Hi Lily - I can be here all night if you like.

poshme · 08/12/2017 17:16

Liking the questions.

PersianCatLady · 08/12/2017 17:17

LangCleg
I think that you should be the women's officer instead of Lily.

0ffredgotaway · 08/12/2017 17:18

Good questions. I would be suprised if you got more than a hair toss and a few blown kisses from 'Lily'.
