She's taking a Twitter break for her mental health because of the level of abuse she's receiving. She's a teenage girl, FFS - and even if you think she's a teenage boy, in what world does a 19 year old deserve this amount of bullying?

I hope you're all fucking happy now.

Selma, a 19 year old is an adult. They know that calling themselves "Savile's apprentice" on a public forum and making threats about rape victims is not okay.

SelmaAndJubjub · 05/12/2017 21:39

Not excusing him, Nyx, just saying that I think Labour are much more culpable for choosing & promoting him.

53rdWay · 05/12/2017 21:48

I’m sure some people will already have seen this, but there’s an interesting Twitter thread posted earlier today by someone in Anne Ruzylo’s (former) CLP, putting the blame for the worst of the bullying campaign on Adrie rather than Lily and implying quite strongly that Lily’s involvement was at least strongly encouraged by Adrie:

53rdWay · 05/12/2017 21:51

I strongly suspect Lily’s been played here. Does not excuse the things he’s actually done and said of course... but I wonder, whose purpose does it serve to have a fragile-seeming trans-identifying teenager at the centre of this, rather than someone like Adrie? Would people like Ed Miliband be so fast to ignore the bullying and rally round the ‘hero’ if that hero was just a 30-something bloke yelling at a lesbian and didn’t identify as trans? Bet not.

OlennasWimple · 05/12/2017 21:55

53rd - that account chimes with what a couple of the posters on FWR who have RL knowledge have said. I rather suspect that LM is destined to be a pub trivia question answer rather than anything more substantive.

Labour needs to look very closely at itself and what Momentum is doing to the party - LM is undoubtedly a convenient pawn in all of this and will find themselves cast aside when no longer useful (hint to LM: go watch House of Cards)

DJBaggySmalls · 05/12/2017 21:55

Someone who is that easily led is not fit to lead.

Fuck it, if UKIP is the voice of sanity, we really are utterly fucked.

MrGHardy · 05/12/2017 22:07

53rd way

But have you read Lily's complaint letter about Anne? It is derogatory, slander, and threatening. She knew full well what was going on, and she saw full well what Adrie was doing. She not only stayed silent but agreed with it, because Anne is a disgusting TERF. Says taking a break from Twitter, gets back saying "I can't take it anymore", proceeds to revel all day in the messages of "solidarity".

Not for one second is Lily innocent. She may be a pawn in the grand scheme of things, but Lily knows exactly what she's done and doing.

I’m not declaring Lily ‘innocent’ - he’s responsible for his own actions (then and now). But there’s a long-time shit-stirrer pushing Lily on from the shadows, who nobody’s looking at because the focus is all on Lily - and I bet that suits Adrie quite nicely indeed.

Traffig · 05/12/2017 22:16

Please can people send copies of Lily's latest offensive tweets to Womens Aid Press Office/ Rape Crisis HQ Press Office?
They have been made aware of most of the issues already, including most threads here, and Lily's recent claims to be "visiting rape victims".
However the comment about getting hold of rape survivors data is particularly concerning. I don't "tweet" so unable to do it directly.
It's quite a shocking and sinister development.

christinarossetti · 05/12/2017 22:20

Indeed. I've just noticed that Lily only opened this particular Twitter account in September.

Lily is being manipulated and exploited by people who are old enough to know better in the Labour Party and media. Lily has no idea of this - Lily thinks that they do really believe that Lily is fabulous.

There's going to be a horrible crashing to earth very soon, which will fuel more allegations of 'transphobia' and an even more entitled attitude to shutting debate down and silencing women.

It's really painful to observe. Although I still do think Lily is a vile, misogynistic bully, and in way, way too deep.

DuncanDonut · 05/12/2017 22:22

Adrienne might be behind Anne's resignation, but it seems Lily was more than happy to insert himself into the middle of it, 'demanding' that Anne be kicked out. If he's that easily manipulated it's not a promising start in an elected post.

However, I'd rather see everyone tweeting at Rochester and Strood CLP now rather then Lily - surely they're the ones at fault for even letting him stand in the first place?

*been following all this for a while now, and can I just say how FABULOUS you ladies are! StarThanksXmas Wink

DuncanDonut · 05/12/2017 22:24

Obviously I meant Adri. My autocorrect is on fire tonight x

MagicalRealist · 05/12/2017 22:28

As despicable as Lily's actions have been, he is also a 19 year old who has just been handed power and fame by people who should know better. It is highly unlikely to end well for him.

He’s kind of like a 21st century version of Perkin Warbeck.

SelmaAndJubjub · 05/12/2017 22:32

I wouldn't advocate beheading, but a spot of protective custody in The Tower might not go amiss Wink

nauticant · 05/12/2017 22:39

I'm hoping he's not going to be the Labour Party's Elliott Johnson.

BahHumbygge · 05/12/2017 22:44

You know, I've realised who he reminds me of. When I started uni 20 odd years ago - the privileged Surrey public school boy types we hung out with, who, as freshers observing student politics for the first time, were whinging about the fact the JCR had a women's officer and there was a Women's Society. "Why can't there be a men's society and a men's officer? That's sexist that is." Yep. Them.

PencilsInSpace · 05/12/2017 22:48

I said this would happen.

She's taking a Twitter break for her mental health because of the level of abuse she's receiving.

Yes, me too! Seriously, I can only do a few weeks on there at a time and then I need a loooong break. And I'm a middle-aged, no-nonsense sort with DC older than Lily and I'm not in the limelight like Lily is. I think Twitter is an astonishing tool for getting a message out and connecting directly and immediately with the people who have the power to effect change, but at the same time it can feel like joining in a massive screaming fight with the whole world.

I think Lily is very young, fragile and naive, and has been used horribly by some misogynistic men for no better aim than to signal their utter contempt for women.

If someone takes on a public role like CLP Women's Officer they need to be honest and they should be accountable for their actions. They need to have the maturity to engage with criticism over the way they conduct their public role. I don't think Lily has this maturity and has not shown much honesty or accountability.

I don't wish Lily any ill but I think the best and most dignified thing to do now would be to step down. This would give Lily some extra time and mental space to work through whatever it is Lily is working through and hopefully come out the other end with a bit of wisdom, maturity, integrity, resilience and compassion.

PencilsInSpace · 05/12/2017 23:12

Either Lily is a capable adult who is suited to a position in politics and public life or a poor, vulnerable teenager who isn't. If it's the latter which Lily is now claiming then how can Lily possibly represent women in the Labour Party?

Yup.

Politics is brutal at all levels. You have to develop a thick skin. Loyalties and allegations switch in heartbeats and those loyalties are built on the sand of deals for votes.

God it toughens you up. And opens your eyes to astonishing machinations.

cromeyellow0 · 05/12/2017 23:25

Lily is on course to be the British equivalent of Stefonknee---the poster "girl" (not woman!) for the Canadian trans movement. The politicians and even the TRAs discarded Stefonknee as his antics became ever more bizarre and creepy.

This whole episode will bring many more people to peak trans ...
