She's taking a Twitter break for her mental health because of the level of abuse she's receiving. She's a teenage girl, FFS - and even if you think she's a teenage boy, in what world does a 19 year old deserve this amount of bullying?

There are lots of idiotic teenagers who love the sound of their own voice and live in a world of ‘fabulousness’ with peers telling them how stunning you are babe, that’s so brave, hun.

You don’t encourage them to take up a public facing post that they are not only woefully unsuited for, but actually diametrically opposed to. And leave them to unleash their foolish opinions on Twitter. Abandoning them to face the challenge and censure of adults.

God. My teens would die a death if they didn’t get the requisite number of likes on a fb selfie, ffs.

That piece of writing by Izzard - dear god. That level of self centred ness and lack of insight surely qualifies as mental illness. I’m discounting stupidity as an explanation - he isn’t stupid.

It really galls me that when I was a woman's officer in the local labour party I couldn't get the support from a major player within the party regarding the sexism I faced. I faced that because I was a woman.

The author of that Pink News article described LM on Twitter as "the brave, proud teen who just wants to not be attacked for being herself"

Which is of course bollocks (pardon the pun)

More accurate would be someone "who just wants to be the centre of attention and is probably rather enjoying the fact that so many column inches are being dedicated to her but who has found out the hard way that the adult world is big and scary and those who play rough get hurt"

Oh and yes to your reply Datun. Most teenagers I knew in the local area went off to better things. Happy to vote and maybe walk down a street delivering letters, and go on twitter (but never facebook).

A lot of them go on and have a life. (None sulked if they lost a point in a debate).

I agree with Datun. As despicable as Lily's actions have been, he is also a 19 year old who has just been handed power and fame by people who should know better. It is highly unlikely to end well for him. I would love to see Labour get their comeuppance for facilitating him (see also the Tories and Maria Miller), but I suspect that he will be the real loser.
