She's taking a Twitter break for her mental health because of the level of abuse she's receiving. She's a teenage girl, FFS - and even if you think she's a teenage boy, in what world does a 19 year old deserve this amount of bullying?

I hope you're all fucking happy now.

I also think this kid (who is a spiteful attention seeker but also not very bright, insecure and completely unsuited to any kind of responsibiity) has been played like a fucking chess piece.
I wouldn't be too surprised if the worst abuse being thrown at Lily Madigan comes from the people manipulating and stirring the whole debate. Because if this kid can be pushed to at least a suicide attempt then, whoopee, they've got an actual martyr.

Well, the meeting today of the CLP seems to have decided that LM is the new Women's Officer, according to this recent tweet from LM

So there we have it: women's officers don't actually need to be women, even though the Labour Party's own rules require them to be women, because if they just say that they are women, even though they are in full possession of a penis, adam's apple and male skeletal frame, they are in fact women.

Can this not be legally challenged? Isn't there a piece of paper somewhere that says the WO has to be a woman? And LM, no matter how much she wants to be, isn't legally one as things stand.

No Maryz, you are not going mad (though the rest of the world clearly is). I can see three women (one on the left, two on the right hand side) in the photo, but it is dominated by white middle aged men....

Not a lawyer disclaimer, but I think that the most effective legal challenge would be from the other candidate. They would be able to argue that they have been directly adversely impacted by the Labour Party's decision to ignore their own rules and allow a man to stand for election. I wonder if they could be persuaded to take a case (and if any legal firm would take it on pro bono, like LM and the school uniform issue....). Though I wouldn't blame them if they didn't want to enter this particular shit storm

They would have to be very, very brave. If she was my daughter/friend I'd be telling her to run away fast. No individual should have to take on such a fight (though Anne Ruzylo has been forced to and I really admire her for it).

I have less sympathy for Lily than some people because I have a kid around that age and knowing their friends etc. Young people can be daft but the way LM has behaved is vicious and threatening, I don't see youth as an excuse at all. That comment about "all that pretty contact data", just horrendous.

I came here to post that about Jack Monroe - she posted a fairly even handed tweet about lily M a few days ago and since has had an onslaught of "die terf cunt" messages, even though she retracted the tweet, apologised to Lily, and publicly apologised (repeatedly, contritely)

I don't blame her to be fair, it seems like a textbook abusive community where you're severely punished for transgressions.

While I'm on twitter, Shone Faye has posted A picture of me when I was 19 - the same age as Lily Madigan - I think I had come out as gay around that time but remained deeply confused about my identity - I remember someone at uni saying "you look like an eastern european transsexual" (thanks!) and it being so shameful

WHY is it shameful to be a transsexual? Or a bloke in makeup and a dress for that matter?

Is it shameful only through perhaps a combination of internalised homophobia plus very, very rigid ideas of what male and female people are allowed to do and wear?

Jack Monroe has had to completely disown her fair and honest opinion. That is a crying shame. Although I'm not sure I would have been more courageous.

It is amazing though how awareness of the savillesapprentice twitter account has been made to unexist. In just about any other context heads would have rolled over that. Especially with the way it was handled. But in this context? "Never happened mate."
