Lily Madigan, TIM, elected Labour women's officer

Lily is 19. Lily was instrumental in the hate campaign against Anne Ruzylo which resulted in her standing down.

You have to be a woman to be women’s officer but ‘The Labour councillor said that “lived experience as a woman” should be considered an advantage — but not a prerequisite — for the role of women’s officer.’

Lily could also have gone for the LGBT officer role but they didn’t want that. No, they wanted to show women that they can shit all over them and we will applaud them for doing it.

I’m absolutely furious about this ( as you can probably tell)

Horrid wee bastard.

SweetGrapes · 20/11/2017 07:46

I am absolutely horrified - and for the first time a little scared. They will go after them all one by one...

doctorcuntybollocks · 20/11/2017 07:48

The Labour party believe that women are literally subhuman so the worst man is better than the best woman.

BertrandRussell · 20/11/2017 07:51

"That’s my Labour Party membership well and truly cancelled."

Please don't do that!

whitehandledkitchenknife · 20/11/2017 07:52

If this wasn't so appalling, it would be risible.
"So tell me, young man, how do you intend to represent the women in your party?"

shhhfastasleep · 20/11/2017 07:52

I disagree that Labour believes women are subhuman but I do think the Labour Party can’t cope with women unless they are slavish Corbynistas.

CosmicCanary · 20/11/2017 07:53

At 19 he hasnt had experience of living as an adult let alone a bloody women!

Battleax · 20/11/2017 07:55

and for the first time a little scared.

Yes. It's all very sinister and feels unstoppable.

shhhfastasleep · 20/11/2017 07:55

Cosmic- so right.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 20/11/2017 07:57

Those saying don't cancel membership - if you don't, the view will be that some woman grumble about this, but ultimately don't mind.

Cancel membership, say why, ideally also send a letter/email explaining why.

Labour need to realise they aren't getting back into power without woman voters, and more importantly, no party has a right to your money if they can't be bothered representing you.

birdsdestiny · 20/11/2017 08:00

People talk about the Labour party as if it is still the Labour party. It took me a long time to understand that the Labour party as I understood it just does not exist anymore. Sirry Bert but it is impossible for centrists to stand with them, they don't want us anyway.

shhhfastasleep · 20/11/2017 08:01

There is an interesting thread on Chat where a woman with heavy periods is finding it difficult to manage her periods and wrangle her employer. She is a temp. There are health and safety and employment issues to consider as well as discussing whether the poster’s approach needs a rethink generally.
What could a 19 year old with little experience of being an adult let alone a woman have to say about that.

Battleax · 20/11/2017 08:01

I don't know Invisible. I need to think about that.

It's not just another membership to me.

It feels deeply, viscerally wrong to down arms and run so easily.

QueenLaBeefah · 20/11/2017 08:02

I really could never vote for a party that seeks to erase women.

Miffer · 20/11/2017 08:02

This is awful because she should be being investigated for what happened with Anne Ruzylo.

But.

Local party politics is fucking weird and not necessarily reflective of national politics. In my area our three constituencies (all Labour) couldn't be more different. If you didn't know you would think they were three entirely different parties.

This in itself is a problem and why I stopped being involved in it. It's extremely cliquey and I wouldn't be surprised if Lilys election had nothing to do with trans issues and more to do with the odd little deals they do in there.

shhhfastasleep · 20/11/2017 08:02

This is Derek Hatton/Millitant bollocks that keeps Labour out of power for at least a generation.
Google it if you didn’t live through it.

AlternativeTentacle · 20/11/2017 08:07

What could a 19 year old with little experience of being an adult let alone a woman have to say about that.

A 19 year old boy wouldn't give a flying fuck. Would probably be giggling with his other friends about periods and how disgusting CIS women are.

FlaviaAlbia · 20/11/2017 08:08

A 19yr old make? How insulting to women!

Do you think they'd notice every woman who objected handing in their membership? I suspect they're still riding high on the we love Corbyn student vote and wouldn't care. I'm not in England and not a Labour party member so that's purely an impression though.

“I would argue strongly that all appeals to biology are anti-feminist. We can’t challenge the view we are limited by our biology in one breath and use the biology argument against trans women in the next. “

Appeals to biology from a feminist perspective are not based in being ‘limited’ by our biology, they are based in difference. Sexual difference. A difference that is/has been routinely, typically, ignored in all realms of human endeavour. For example crash test dummies, pharmaceutical dosage, employment law etc. This is based in materialreality that can be evidenced and related to our particular female biology.

An anti feminist view of female biological limitation would be based more on the idea that menstruation makes a person unstable and unfit to be a pilot, that girls shouldn’t be educated, that girls should have their clitoris removed to avoid them becoming loose through sexual pleasure, or the idea that-the capacity to become pregnant makes a female naturally more nurturing than a male. These are views based on cultural mythology, rooted in ideas about gendered roles and applied to female biology by believers, evidence is not necessary.

The biological arguments around, not “against”, trans women are based in the same material reality as the first examples:
Crash test dummies were for decades based on male physique, weight distribution, height etc.so a trans woman’s body would more typically match a crash test dummy than a female (or a trans man’s) body so they would be safer in any vehicle using said crash test dummies.

Dosage of pharmaceuticals is typically based on the male biology, though it is adjusted according to height and weight there is evidence that female bodies absorb some drugs differently, in addition to this, no testing is carried out on pregnant women for reasons that might seem obviously ethical(to protect the foetus) but with the result that there is limited evidential basis for the medical treatment of pregnant women, who, amazingly, have a humanity of their own, separate from the foetus. Trans women, having male biology, are not affected by any of this. Trans men, having female biology, are.
Employment law was for a long time arranged around the idea that as soon as a woman was pregnant she should be fired. This obviously would not apply to trans women, but might apply to trans men.

Hopefully I’ve demonstrated that arguing about sexual difference is not the same as arguing about sexual limitations.

SuburbanRhonda · 20/11/2017 08:10

Alternative

I can’t speak for other people’s DSs but my 19-year-old would have grown out giggling at periods 10 years ago, if indeed he’d ever done it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/11/2017 08:18

As one of the comment BTL said, I suspect that a 19 y old woman wouldn't have been given given the job due to age / lack of experience etc.

I am beyond angry about this. It just seems like such a "fuck you" to women

CAAKE · 20/11/2017 08:23

I’m forwarding this article to my local Labour Party and to HQ with notice of my cancellation of membership. Fuck you too Labour Angry

BertrandRussell · 20/11/2017 08:36

"A 19 year old boy wouldn't give a flying fuck. Would probably be giggling with his other friends about periods and how disgusting CIS women are."

Really? You must know some pretty unpleasant 19 year olds.......

BertrandRussell · 20/11/2017 08:39

Yes. It's the being 19 that's almost worse than the trans issue.......

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 20/11/2017 08:39

OMG. Fucking unbelievable. Fuck this shit
