Lily is 19. Lily was instrumental in the hate campaign against Anne Ruzylo which resulted in her standing down.

You have to be a woman to be women’s officer but ‘The Labour councillor said that “lived experience as a woman” should be considered an advantage — but not a prerequisite — for the role of women’s officer.’

Lily could also have gone for the LGBT officer role but they didn’t want that. No, they wanted to show women that they can shit all over them and we will applaud them for doing it.

I’m absolutely furious about this ( as you can probably tell)

They are just going to ignore your requests Nettle

Your collective concerns obviously don't matter.

iseenodust · 20/11/2017 13:41

I'm beginning to think Women's Equality Party is a misnomer. Depressing as I had been watching them with interest.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/11/2017 13:47

Thank you Nettle

I've heard similar stories to this from other CLPs. I'm wondering what the reaction would be if industry issues or union issues were to be represented by a 19 yr old (of any stripe) without experience of most of the issues.

The fact that women's representation merits a 19 yr old without even the lived experience of being a girl tells me all I need to know about the state of the current labour party.

And when the tabloids and the press pick up on this and use it to beat Labour up in the next campaign (which they will) then frankly for once I'll be agreeing with them.

Datun · 20/11/2017 13:50

Any of the newspapers should ask the question whether or not this boy is legally a woman? Because he can’t be.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 20/11/2017 13:50

Can anyone tell me about what's happened with the WEP? I've been away from MN for a while.

I will write to my (female) labour representative I think.

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 20/11/2017 13:52

As a Labour Party member I'm deeply disappointed - BUT this is something that has happened at a local level. It's not like this person is Shadow Women's Minister or something at a national level.

Yes it's concerning, but not voting to get the Tories out will put us in a much worse position IMO. And don't foget it's the Tories pushing the GRA.

Collidascope · 20/11/2017 13:55

Owen Jones and another bloke going out of their way to miss the point about Hadley Freeman's tweet.

Ed Milliband getting involved

And hasn't JC signalled support for the trans agenda?

I'm done with the Labour Party

pisacake · 20/11/2017 13:59

"Can anyone tell me about what's happened with the WEP? I've been away from MN for a while. "

They came on here in November 2015 and basically got told to fuck off over their 'men are women' stand.

Things haven't changed.

QueenLaBeefah · 20/11/2017 14:01

Nice touch Ed Milliband using the word "hysteria". The Labour Party can fuck off.

pisacake · 20/11/2017 14:01

Basically half the posters said 'we don't need a women's party, men share many of our concerns', and the other half said 'yes we need a women's party, but it needs to know what a woman is'.

so complete shit show basically.

Datun · 20/11/2017 14:02

Can someone put Ed on the spot?

Ask him if he thinks lesbians should sleep with men who identify as women.

Ask him if the word woman is transphobic.

Ask him if he thinks a 19-year-old boy, fresh out of school, should be the representative of women.

RedToothBrush · 20/11/2017 14:04

Owen Jones has done a lot of that, particularly lately. Owen Jones likes to be down with the kids and be trendy. He has a rather shallow grasp on a lot of issues, not just this one.

He writes a lot of total and utter tripe.

The disappointing thing is more that people think he's a respectable and serious journalist. He's not. He has an opinion column and doesn't do nearly enough research on what he writes about. That's not needed though, as the more opinionated the better because it provokes more of a reaction. At times he is little better than the Hatey Hopkins but gets away with it, because he's from the left.

He is influential though and that's the sad bit. There will be too many who will read what he says without critical thought and use it as an echo chamber for their own beliefs.

Lily is aligned with Momentum (and is so vain as to comment on her own photos "She's so hot")

iseenodust · 20/11/2017 14:08

peacelove have a scroll through this twitter.com/brunskellevans
There is also post today www.womensequality.org.uk/november_20_statement

Xenophile · 20/11/2017 14:08

Well, that's my membership going back and the end of the hours of voluntary work I've put in. My CLP is one of the ones that has a trans alumnus of the Jo Cox leadership training in it. They see themselves as a future constituency MP. The women's officer is at least a woman, but I have no doubt that if she gets to be the new candidate, the next one won't be.

KathyBeale · 20/11/2017 14:08

Haven't read the full thread as am at work and a bit busy, but I was wondering how many MN users we have in this area? It's Rochester, right? Could we organise some sort of bombarding of Lily with very specific questions and problems regarding female biology/discrimination/experience? Just to see how it's all dealt with...

Datun · 20/11/2017 14:08

Andrie van der meers.

Is this Lilly?

OlennasWimple · 20/11/2017 14:09

And Lily only joined the Labour party in April / May this year

Worst of all Wink, Lily doesn't know how to use apostrophes

OlennasWimple · 20/11/2017 14:11

Datun - Lily used to be Liam

Datun · 20/11/2017 14:12

OlennasWimple

Yes, sorry. I got confused with who that poster was talking about.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/11/2017 14:16

BUT this is something that has happened at a local level. And don't forget it's the Tories pushing the GRA

Its happening at a lot of local levels as Momentum take control of the party from the bottom up. Momentum are every bit as anti women as the old Militant as far as I can see, not least because some of the leading personalities are the same people.

Labour leadership (the men at least) are fully on board with all this and the erasure of biological female identity, even where its critically important (eg medical treatment). If mandatory reselection comes in we can kiss goodbye to many good women who have fought for us for decades. Barbara Castle would be spinning.

So frankly when the Tory press are doing a better job of representing women's interests in this space than the Labour party then Labour can whistle for another farthing of my money.

jMillicentFawcett · 20/11/2017 14:16

We need to find out if Lily has a GRC. Because if they don’t, their appointment is illegal.

Wow, ok, I feel like a dickhead. I had thought WEP was gender critical. Thank you. Argh.
