I met lots of people but didn’t meet anyone identifying as a mumsnetter Grin.

But I got to speak to Magdalene Berns .

kua · 11/01/2018 01:08

Twas a fab evening.

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 01:10

But I got to speak to Magdalene Berns .

Grin Yep!

53rdWay · 11/01/2018 06:18

Plectrum I was sitting with you and Assigned during the talk. Hello both Smile

Redonionricedpotato · 11/01/2018 06:29

This is what the transactivists were handing out. So deceitful and dishonest.

But so great to meet many of you last night - what an inspiring event!

We need to talk about the GRA - Glasgow
gunsandbanjos · 11/01/2018 07:28

Wow, that letter they handed out is vile!

PlectrumElectrum · 11/01/2018 07:43

Assigned made some great points at the meeting, as did just about everyone who spoke.

That letter is just ridiculous. When people have to lie to try and sway people they've shown how hollow their arguments are. Hate group my arse! There was no hate at all in anything that was said last night. Again, just standing up for women & girls is bullshittingly reframed as hate. Utter drivel.

Redonionricedpotato · 11/01/2018 07:58

I know! As for ‘advocating violence’ - unless misgendering is violence!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2018 08:31

redonion what is the logo at the bottom right hand corner?

I’m going to make a point of booking meeting rooms there now when I need one for work.

@assigned, of the three disrupters, only one was a transperson. One was a young female and the third was the woman with LD (and I hope to God neither of the other two were supporting her in a paid capacity last night.)

Did anyone catch who the first person to ask a question was? S/he said she was the person in the Janice Turner article. I didn’t quite get her point and I’d be interested in reading more.

Also, when there was the toilet break after the speakers and before the q and a, did anyone else notice that the vocal trans woman from the front row was in the back room being interviewed by the ITV guy? Joanna(?) really just proved the speakers point that the whole thing is a form of extreme mental illness. I wasn’t clear if she had been sexually assaulted before or after she transed, but I don’t think “being” a woman will sort things.

I was so angry last night I couldn’t sleep. The whole thing is so fucked up.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 08:52

I can't read the leaflet. What does it say? Can someone give an overview please.

Waves back to Plectrum and to 53rd

A large part of the discussion focussed on young females transitioning. The speaker was a specialist in self harm, particularly in young females and saw this phenomenon as an extension of the other types of self harm that young women, and especially working class young women were more disposed to.

It was only really at the discussion at the end, when the remaining trans identified male spoke, that the focus was on MTT. He asked a rather provocative question about whey we considered transwomen rapists. There had been no such language used. The chairwoman did handle the situation really well, as he could have taken over the meeting, and certainly intended to. I spoke to her in the bar afterwards and she said that she had seen too many of these meetings going south because women were trying to justify their position to loud aggressive TIMs and that there was no way she was going to allow that to happen. She held the floor and the room really well.

One of the group lives round the corner from me, with kids at the same schools! We are going to meet up and poss go to see our MP.

The discussion at the very end about the Scottish consultation was interested. Heather BL thought the language was straight out of the TRA handbook and really we should tackle the language before we could answer the questions, because it was loaded to make any opposition look like bigotry. I am assuming a Trans group contributed to the writing of the consultation; anyone know about this?

I met so many people, some from MN and some from other groups I am in. Apologies if I am forgetting MNer names, so many names and groups.
I missed quite a few of you which is a shame. Hopefully next time.

PlectrumElectrum · 11/01/2018 08:52

The 1st person who spoke I think her name is Jill? She was the person Janice turner interviewed for one of her articles. She's on twitter - I'll try & find her name. She spoke about how transition in lesbians has been happening for 10/15/20 years & the vocal support now being voiced was not there when she was transitioning & although the ROGD is now recognised she felt that was something that had been happening for a long time & ignored. I think the suggestion was the sheer numbers now of lesbian girls/women choosing transition is why we are now talking about it more & that is fairly new.

PlectrumElectrum · 11/01/2018 08:58

It's difficult to read assigned but there's references to the people meeting/organising as being TERFs & a hate group. They say Venice was recently 'forcibly' removed from the labour Xmas party for harassing a TIM. I've watched Venice's video on what happened & she was neither forcibly removed nor harassing the TIM. There's stuff about us being responsible for holding up the GRA etc

I'd need to read on PC to get all of it.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 09:06

Agent

I sorry I didn't get to meet you.

I was near the back so couldn't see in detail what was going with the demo thing at the beginning. I def could see that one of them was Downs, which I was pretty shocked about. Having worked with Downs people in the past, it's a particularly nasty manipulation to take advantage of open and honest passions with this dishonest agenda. I really am pretty horrified about this.

I didn't know the transwoman was being interviewed. It is supposed to be on ITV? Does anyone know if it's a documentary or a new item. Or anything about it?

With every sympathy to Joanna re assault, it is still not a reason to change the legislation which will negatively affect an entire sex (and a protected characteristic). We need a third way

Oh yes, the first speaker was very good and having transed years back, was keen to talk about how bloody dangerous and harmful it is, especially to girls. The whole thing is just heartbreaking

Nineteenagain · 11/01/2018 09:25

. It is supposed to be on ITV? Does anyone know if it's a documentary or a new item. Or anything about it?
Some of us were chatting to the itv guys before the event. The taller one said its a documentary and I think he said it was going out on 22nd February. He said he was trying to be impartial as he could see both sides. There was some concern at this as we were worried he might 'sell us out' as one of our group put it.It would be good to see the content before it goes out but how ?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 09:37

Crap. I don't really want to be on the telly

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 09:43

Thanks Plectrum and Nineteen

Redonionricedpotato · 11/01/2018 09:59

I don’t really want to be on telly either but I think it will just show the backs of our heads!

Nineteenagain · 11/01/2018 10:39

Me either - especially as I was off work with flu! Im sure it will be ok as far as i could see he was just filming the panel and prior to that the protesters outside.

Lemonjello · 11/01/2018 11:25

What a night! I couldn’t go to bed for ages because I was too wired to sleep.
I was sitting with Terry Leather and another mner who left just before the end- I didn’t catch her name. Also spoke to some people right at the end of the talks- I was the person who suggested a code word.
Was going to name change but fuck it.
I was scared by the protestors I must say. My heart was fair beating and I couldn’t concentrate much on the first talk.

user1515670135 · 11/01/2018 11:35

Hi there, I met a few of you last night at the meeting, dark brown bob. Really good to be there but still in shock!

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 11:38

waves to Lemon and User - I met both of you I think

user1515670135 · 11/01/2018 11:38

Hi Terry! I met you last night! Great to chat and I hope we get that meeting.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2018 11:39

Hey Lemonjello, I met you I remember the code.word suggestion Grin

ALLIS0N · 11/01/2018 11:53

I am sulking because I don’t know if I met any Mumsnetter (misses the point of the event )

Assigned - did you have a stripy jumper on ? If so I was speaking to you and your friend in the bar .

As I’ve reflected on the meeting last night I’ve become increasingly angry. I need to work out how to use this constructively and would be up for a meet up and other suggestions how to let our voices be heard.

Has anyone had any success going to see their MP at their surgery ? I’ve read here that letters and emails get ignored .
