I may actually try and go to this if I am feeling brave.

That letter is really stupid, as well as dishonest. They forget no one understands their jargon like "cisgendered".

Ereshkigal · 11/01/2018 12:05

Also "Trans Exclusionary, or Exterminationist Radical Feminists" Hmm has the ring of Edinburgh ATH to me.

MrsJackRackham · 11/01/2018 12:06

I'm gutted I couldn't make it last night. I've written to both my MP and MSP, both women. Interested to see what replies I get. I would also be up for a meet up.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/01/2018 12:09

Using words like "exterminationist" makes them sound like complete nutters to a normal person.

In a normal political movement there would be at least one person who'd raise their hand and go "um, guys, do we not think that maybe this makes us sound just a teeny bit hysterical and not necessarily possessed of the best judgement?", but then again this is less political movement and more cult.

Well this is interesting reading...

Yes, so this is how they organised. Terrifying stuff.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 12:23

Allison
No, I was wearing a black coat (really original, me).

I was at the back, right hand side and talked about the affect that this would have on older ladies not being able to go to the gym, and asked about the Scot Gov consultation at the end.

It's I recognise that banner about TERFs Serve the Patriarchy, stupid fuckers that they are. When I was walking past it I had to fight the urge to say 'eh? that doesn't even make sense'

What's funny is that when I entered the hotel, the concierge was looking highly confused as to WTF was going on, so we gave him a brief outline and he was horrified. Afterwards, one of the other women who I had met earlier, who was waiting for some people to arrive, was chatting away to the hotel staff and I think she peaktransed all of them. Grin To be fair, the people outside were fecking crazy and it was largely highly presentable naice ladies going to the meeting

53rdWay · 11/01/2018 12:28

How many protestors were there outside? I was too busy sauntering past trying to look innocuous to see! Saw some of the same faces again on the way out but they were over on the other side of Gordon Street and it looked like had police with them(?)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2018 12:31

Assigned I know who you are now. I really liked the point you made.

I didn't see any protesters either on the way in or the way out

Redonionricedpotato · 11/01/2018 12:32

I wonder how they found out what the original venue was?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2018 12:32

I am Grin at the demo being "potentially dangerous" though!

Redonionricedpotato · 11/01/2018 12:34

A couple of us are trying to get a meeting with the Scottish Parliament to which we can invite MSPs.

AgentProvocateur · 11/01/2018 12:35

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 12:39

Thanks Its

I was Agent always one to bring down the tone of the place me Grin

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 12:42

Did I meet you last night Red? Are you still Bfing?

SonicBoomBoom · 11/01/2018 13:00

Ah AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth I know who you are now too! I spoke to you briefly at the bar afterwards.

You were great, that point about the gym was such a good one.

Does anyone know if the younger woman (with the long straight dark hair and dark stripey dress, right hand side middle, near Gill who spoke at the start) is a MNer? She was great too. And the woman who was a GP? And there were a few people who spoke in the row behind me who were so good as well.

It was just such a good night.

A couple of us are trying to get a meeting with the Scottish Parliament

Now that would be great. It might get boycotted though.

Where was the original venue? Ruth said it was another hotel, I think?

Nineteenagain · 11/01/2018 13:03

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth
Ah so that was you! Its great to put a face to a name. I am an 'older lady' and have just joined a gym. Didnt even think i migjt have to share with men. Havent been yet though..

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 13:06

Hi Sonic, I know who you are too . You were brilliant, totally took Stuart to task. I really liked him but obviously disagreed with his point about the violence and you were totally bang on to put him right

Was that the other woman who was debating with Stuart? I don't know who she was but she was fab too

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 13:08

The Mencure in Ingram St I think, Sonic.

Apparently they were at Costa too. They didn't go to the pub though.

There is one almighty leak somewhere though, isn't there? 3/4 meet points known!

OlennasWimple · 11/01/2018 13:21

According to the Facebook site linked by ItsAll, they are going to release a statement today on the event...

This was a very interesting post:

GET TERFS OUT OF GLASGOW!

They are organising in Glasgow this evening. Their booking for Mercure was cancelled and they will now be meeting at Grand Central hotel. The number is 0141 240 3700, please pass the message around and get calling- we only have 1.5 hours to get this cancelled! Please COPY AND PASTE- don’t share and make sure your settings are on friends only if putting this on Facebook.

If folk want to be at the (potentially dangerous) demo in an hour, please PM me

Why was the demo "potentially dangerous"? What were they expecting (planning?) to happen?

SO wonderful to meet you all last night, and user lovely to meet you too and welcome to the wonderful world of the Mumsnet FWR boards!

I'm still buzzing today and can't properly concentrate on anything else, I'm so glad I went and got to meet so many fellow mumsnetters. Plectrum I'm sorry that I didn't get to meet you but hopefully another time.

Am shocked by that ridiculous leaflet - apart from anything else who can be bothered to read a wall of text filled with concepts like "cis" that most ordinary folk wouldn't have a clue about???? As for "exterminationists"odfod.

I didn't see any activists when I left but I must say the whole evening felt a bit like being in a spy movie, not knowing who could be trusted. It just blows my mind that it has to be this way.

I am very very keen to get together to take action, like meeting up with MPs/ MSPs - I was really hoping that could be a consequence of going to the meeting.

I must say just getting to speak to like minded women if only briefly has really lifted my spirits - I feel so much dread about all this and only have a couple of folk who will still listen to my ranting!

Oh and I had to stop myself from squealing when Magdelen Berns sat in the row infront......

53rdWay · 11/01/2018 13:29

‘potentially dangerous’ because we’d try to exterminate them, I suppose? Hmm
