At least two more feminists have been attacked by trans chauvinists today, set upon while they were handing out leaflets at the Anarchist Book Fair. One is Green Party candidate Olivia Palmer and the other a trade union rep Helen Steel

This would all feel like two bald men arguing over a comb,

Brilliant! I’ve never heard that. Did you make it up?

annandale · 02/11/2017 10:44

Oh God no! It was a famous Argentinian author (Borges? Not sure) talking about the Argentinian junta and Thatcher going to war over the Falklands.

Apologies if there is another thread on this and double apologies that is a Daily Fail link, but Lord Robert Winston s now highlighting the damage done by gender reassignment surgery and the implications of hormone treatment on fertility . He has predictably been called ignorant and vile, but again, it's good that someone so respected and well known is talking about these issues.

Sorry for my rant earlier. I'm just a bit fed-up. I've fallen out badly with a long term friend over this and despite building up years and years of a good-reputation in my secondary school, I'm now looked upon as the terfy anti-Christ for daring to criticise the school counselor because she was pushing a trans agenda.

Half-term started under a cloud and I'm dreading going back next Monday. My colleagues are, on the whole, blissfully ignorant of this whole movement so I'm coming across as ranty and opinionated and very much 'bald and fighting over a comb' (NB that very much made me grin despite my black mood). They just don't see the bigger picture here and looked at me like I was crazy for telling them that this had massive implications for women - their wives, sisters, mothers and daughters. My Head told me quietly that she will see me about this upon my return but in the meantime "to have a think about my role as blah blah blah and my responsibilities towards the school community".

It all sounded very bleak. Sad

CisMyArse · 02/11/2017 10:58

*has massive implications

ArcheryAnnie · 02/11/2017 11:01

CisMyArse I have started leading, with people who think they are being "enlightened" and that gender-critical views are transphobic, with the homophobia angle - so much trans activism being incredibly homophobic, lesbianism derided as "vagina fetishism", regarding homosexuality as a "preference" to be got over rather than an orientation, gay conversion therapy, etc etc - because that's a pre-emptive strike against the "if you are gender-crit then you must hate LGBT+ people, you bigot!" stance. People want to be seen as progressive (and plenty want to be actually progressive) so getting this in as a first step, that they are actively enabling homophobia by promoting trans activism, seems to help.

ArcheryAnnie · 02/11/2017 11:02

And CisMyArse that sounds amazing of you, in a very difficult situation. Flowers

NoLoveofMine · 02/11/2017 11:22

Sorry to read of that CisMyArse (great username though). I find it quite worrying this is taking hold so much in schools, leading in my opinion to children being taught that gender is innate, so if they don't identify with the gender thrust upon them depending on their sex from an early age they don't really fit that sex. Hugely damaging and regressive, the opposite of what schools should be teaching.

thenightsky · 02/11/2017 13:05

Annie Yes... incredibly homophobic. This is the part that needs to be emphasised. I'll remember that next time I get myself into one of these 'discussions'.

Datun · 02/11/2017 13:16

The homophobic angle is brilliant. Because people do see this as a LGB issue.

Once you have been given enough time to explain that the trans-ideology suggests that homosexuality doesn’t exist, and that we each need to be attracted to one another’s gender, not sex, it often gives people pause for thought.

Follow it up with a suggestion they google the cotton ceiling and male lesbian.

Bloody hell Cis that is shocking! Hope your 'meeting' goes well and they give you chance to put your views across (and take notice of those views).

norahnamechange · 02/11/2017 13:28

CisMyArse
Not self pitying - you have every right to be stressed. Will pm you.

Datun · 02/11/2017 13:29

CisMyArse

Can I urge you to contact Stephanie Davis Arai at transgendertrend.

She is a gender critical feminist whose primary concern is children.

She is exceptionally well versed in both the law and how schools are dealing with this. She has become increasingly concerned over the propaganda that pressure groups allow into schools.

She’s also very well-connected. And is currently making inroads.

She will have excellent advice on how to tackle this and what you can or can’t say.

hipsterfun · 02/11/2017 13:36

Cis, I’m worried that that post could make you and the child identifiable. Is it worth getting it deleted?

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 02/11/2017 13:51

Cis that's bloody awful - I'd be so tempted to point out that the counsellor is being both misogynistic and probably homophobic by insisting that any girl who does not embrace sexist stereotypes is in the wrong body.

Fucking hell, we've got past pray away the gay and now it's just a simple matter of sterilisation instead....

Datun · 02/11/2017 13:55

Yeah cis. We’ve all read it now. We can still talk about it. But it might be an idea to get just that post deleted.

CisMyArse · 02/11/2017 13:57

hipster yes you're right. I'll get it zapped.

Datun I WILL contact her but it'll have to be outside my profession. I feel rather helpless tbh. It's like being a spectator to something horrible and insidious.

Thanks everyone for the support. This board in particular is a lifeline Flowers

CisMyArse · 02/11/2017 13:59

norah I may be some time getting back to you - am on phone and can't pick up PM's for some reason self confessed technophobe. Thank you.

Datun · 02/11/2017 14:03

cis

Don’t worry. Check your messages.

You are not the only one going through this, I promise. But the tide is definitely turning.

And because of that, there are now more resources. Progress is being made.

Datun · 02/11/2017 14:04

Sorry, didn’t mean to add more pressure when I said check your messages! It wasn’t a command. Whenever you have time.

I'd even considered trying to get hold of the PDF of the leaflet being handed out at the Anarchist's book fair, photocopying loads and loads and posting them in neighbours doors and colleagues mail boxes.

Anything to get this more attention.
