This one picks up in particular the huge rise in women identifying as men, and the increasing inability of anyone being able to question it:

Thanks Datun, sounds awesome. Not sure about the bridge though, I don't really stretch much further than whist. And bingo. I've always liked bingo.

Gin though, that's a no brainer. Gin

TalkingintheDark · 29/09/2017 22:22

We're going to be quite the posse!

Does the name Stoner McTavish mean anything to you, Datun? Or anyone else?

Datun · 29/09/2017 22:47

No. Why? Does he want to come too?

OlennasWimple · 29/09/2017 23:31

I'd be up for Shady Pines too - will it be like the big red tent?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/09/2017 23:40

Less draughty than a tent, I'd hope.

TalkingintheDark · 29/09/2017 23:57

Grin I'm sure you didn't mean to misgender the legendary Stoner!

She's actually a lesbian detective in a series of books by Sarah Dreher, written in the 90's. I had it in my head that there was a rest home called Shady Pines in one of the books and thought maybe you'd got the name from there; but upon googling it turns out that while one of the books is called "Something Shady", and features a rest home of sorts, it's actually called Journey's End.

Ah well. Still need a refuge from all the crazy shit out there!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/09/2017 00:20

I remember Stoner.

Oh fuck. My job is statistics & coding, I haven't worn makeup for over 20 years and I've never shaved my legs. Does Shady Pines have Scrabble nights?

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2017 00:56

Does Shady Pines have Scrabble nights?

Of course.

TalkingintheDark · 30/09/2017 00:56

Yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers her! Was sad to find out tonight that Sarah Dreher died a few years back though.

In other news... aaaggghhhh have just had to step away from Twitter (again) and am just raging at the right on lefty men and their fucking rank misogyny - who the fuck do they think they are to decide who is "more discriminated against"? - oh yeah, that's right, they're men and so they think they rule the fucking world. Because they do. They're just used to mattering, to having their opinions matter. Because they always have done.

Progressive and radical, my arse.

SelmaAndJubjub · 30/09/2017 07:31

Shouldn't alcohol be banned in Shady Pines, so that residents can enjoy the thrills of smuggling it in and hidden distilleries?

Igneococcus · 30/09/2017 07:43

I can build/run the secret fermentation dens to provide the material for Errol's stills. I have access to a gaziilion different yeast strains, including some for biofuel production to keep Shady Pines warm during winter.

badbadhusky · 30/09/2017 07:44

Not banned, but only Port and lemonade or Babycham is available. Hard liquor must be obtsined on the downlow by residents.

Datun · 30/09/2017 07:46

Gin is banned. Dry sherry is encouraged. The staff know there is an illegal still. Errol, who mans it, is only known as The Juniper, so they can't find anything out.

Deals for the other inmates are done over Scrabble. A series of triple word scores spelling out laundry cupboard, 9 PM. That sort of thing.

Datun · 30/09/2017 07:51

Igneococcus has just been carted off to the medical unit for saying yeast strain.

Igneococcus · 30/09/2017 07:59

I was ONLY playing scrabble, yeast = 10 points, strain = 12, honest.

BMacklin · 30/09/2017 09:04

Ah I left this for a while because I was starting to get upset about it all (again) and I come back to find we are all distilling our own gin. Excellent!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/09/2017 09:08

I'm not signing up until someone assures me they can make an excellent single malt.

I'm assuming that brewing real ale will be a doddle?

TheWeeWitch · 30/09/2017 09:16

Ah, you lot! Brilliant. I’m in.

SophoclesTheFox · 30/09/2017 09:17

I know how to make beer. Can I come?

I've just started a new job this week and I had a presentation on diversity and inclusion delivered by a middle aged straight white guy.

Let's just say my poker face wasn't up to that challenge. And that he and I aren't going to be friends Confused

Igneococcus · 30/09/2017 09:18

I can ferment anything.

busyboysmum · 30/09/2017 09:20

So is this resthome strictly for the elderly or can I self identify as such and come now? Please.

Datun · 30/09/2017 09:29

I can ferment anything.

I'm censoring this thread, any hint of a double entendre, and I shall whip it out.

Ereshkigal · 30/09/2017 09:29
