Excellently put Scrumplestiltskin.

Well the op mentions porn. Porn scenes which women take part in willingly. So women are to blame for "rape culture" too then?

NoLoveofMine · 26/08/2017 12:29

The only people to blame for male sexual violence against women and girls are the men who perpetrate it, of which there are many.

OP posts:
SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 12:29

Clearly the porn he was watching did not involve participants who were all able to consent.

CoinOperatedGurl · 26/08/2017 12:29

Erm. Have you ever watched rape porn?

Scrumplestiltskin · 26/08/2017 12:29

But porn doesn’t just change attitudes; it can also shape actions. Study after study has shown that consumers of violent and nonviolent porn are more likely to use verbal coercion, drugs, and alcohol to coerce individuals into sex. [7] And multiple studies have found that exposure to both violent and nonviolent porn increases aggressive behavior, including both having violent fantasies and actually committing violent assaults. [8]
In 2016, a team of leading researchers compiled all the research they could find on the subject. [9] After examining twenty-two studies they concluded that the research left, “little doubt that, on the average, individuals who consume pornography more frequently are more likely to hold attitudes conducive [favorable] to sexual aggression and engage in actual acts of sexual aggression.”

It's acting. It's fun and all parties are fully consenting actors and actresses. There are plenty of website dedicated to material like this.

SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 12:31

Well, as he watching and recording illegal material involving children, and also material involving animals, I think it is fair to say that no, we haven't seen it, and no, it wasn't fun.

Scrumplestiltskin · 26/08/2017 12:35

Women choose porn freely? A very few, perhaps. But in general:

All these stories share, to varying degrees, common elements that should disturb us. These were women in dire financial need who felt they had limited options. Once they were “in it,” their options became even more limited. In many cases the women say they were given a much different picture than reality. They felt pressured to go along with sexual encounters even when they felt uncomfortable; under the control of skilled manipulators, things often happened faster than they could process in time to say no.
And
Rough. That’s the word that seems to come to mind first when girls in amateur porn describe a scene they didn’t like. “It was a really, really, really rough scene,” Weeks said about her first dip into porn. “I wasn’t prepared for how rough it was.”
Weeks is referring to her first porn set, where she was physically beaten and choked as the cameras rolled. It’s an experience that amateur porn actresses face on a regular basis—signing on for one thing (a porn scene as it was described to you, for a certain amount of money), but then being forced to do something else while the cameras roll. It’s not uncommon for women to get physically beaten or forced to do a sexual act they weren’t informed of beforehand. Before Weeks’ scene where she is recorded on camera getting “ass-kicked,” Weeks had been told, “It’s not that bad; they’ll be very nice to you.” Despite her initial no, she ultimately agreed; $1200 was “fast, easy money” after all—or, at least, it was fast.
It turns out that formerly agreed-upon terms change very frequently on porn sets—once the actresses have already flown to the location, are in compromised positions, and feel they don’t have the option to decline.
That wasn’t the only scene in which Weeks had an unwanted sexual encounter. As she further describes in Becoming Belle Knox, her agent intentionally didn’t give her details about a porn shoot until she had committed to it. By the time she was informed the man was 50 years old, she felt her hands were tied, and she couldn’t say no. She would get fined and never hired from the company again. She went through with it “for professionalism,” she says. Despite feeling “like crying during the entire scene” and afterward feeling “really upset,” Weeks concluded that “even if your boundaries are disrespected, you should do the scene anyway.”

I wish people would actually investigate the reality of the industry.

CoinOperatedGurl · 26/08/2017 12:35

You don't know that the rape porn he was watching was illegal (of course the other stuff was).

Scrumplestiltskin · 26/08/2017 12:36

It's acting. It's fun and all parties are fully consenting actors and actresses. There are plenty of website dedicated to material like this.
Are...are you being sarcastic, CoinOperatedGurl?

SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 12:36

I am referring to the link in the OP, as to the actual judgement against him.

NoLoveofMine · 26/08/2017 12:36

Well as long as you're having "fun" then never mind the lives of women and girls who have to live with the results of the culture it fosters.

OP posts:
CoinOperatedGurl · 26/08/2017 12:37

I AM part of the industry. I've worked in it for almost a decade (porn and now sex work/whoring) I don't need patronising by being told to research anything!

SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 12:37

All child pornography is rape porn.

NoLoveofMine · 26/08/2017 12:38

Girls being pressured at young ages into degrading and painful sexual acts by boys trying to recreate scenes they've seen in pornography is all good fun too I expect.

OP posts:
Missymoo100 · 26/08/2017 12:39

I agree we have a problem with violence, I know sadly that the main perpetrators are male. However I think it would be helpful to widen the debate to think about why this is and what other factors such as porn influence this. There are reasons why some men may be more likely to exhibit offending behaviour than others. I refute that maleness in itself is the cause, and everything stems from hating women because the majority of men aren't like this.

NoLoveofMine · 26/08/2017 12:40

Oh and the rape and sexual violence he inflicted on women and girls is just "other stuff" to you, says it all. I expect you couldn't care less about his actions.

OP posts:
NoLoveofMine · 26/08/2017 12:41

Clearly far too many men and boys hate women and see women and girls as nothing but sexual objects for their gratification.

OP posts:
CoinOperatedGurl · 26/08/2017 12:41

I care about the fact that his consumption of porn is used as a negative thing during his sentencing. That is damaging an entire industry because of his actions.

Scrumplestiltskin · 26/08/2017 12:42

Right, so you're aware of the huge abuses within the industry then?
The way "amateur actresses," are put through the mill and spat back out?
The way that porn actresses speak of gritting their teeth and bearing it, while in pain, because they feel they have no choice?
The way that rape and coercion are ubiquitous?

But you're right - I do blame women like you, who are "having fun" in the sex industry, when the rest - the vast majority - are coerced, used, abused, raped, and spat out. Good for you, collaborating with abusive men, to fuck over your fellow women.

CoinOperatedGurl · 26/08/2017 12:43

Men don't hate women. Human sexuality is far more complicated than that.

I think you need to be asking why people like degrading sex acts?

gotspoiler · 26/08/2017 12:44

Hmmmm well Mercedes Carrera is doing well in the porn industry. She is a fully qualified engineer and found she can get loads of money doing porn and she also enjoys doing it. She has no complaints about the industry

CoinOperatedGurl · 26/08/2017 12:46

No one does an (yes going to be vulgar here) anal gangbang and enjoys it. No one. But it's a job. I've done things which have landed me in hospital. It's not all been fun but I've not stopped as it's my career.

Any woman or man who does this work understands what your putting your body through. Especially women since we are the ones being penetrated multiple times. It's risky and painful and can often end in injury. But it's still a choice!

NoLoveofMine · 26/08/2017 12:46

The women and girls he attacked didn't "like degrading sex acts". This man liked raping women and girls.
