Could somebody help with some links re wealth distribution between men and women world-wide? Health? Crime statistics?

Much appreciated Smile

This is based on data from the DSS and Rowntree.
Gender and wealth inequality;
www.radstats.org.uk/no075/warrenetal.htm

This is the table you want;
www.radstats.org.uk/no075/warrenetalt2.htm

(To find the mean, add up the values in the data set and then divide by the number of values that you added.
To find the median, list the values of the data set in numerical order and identify which value appears in the middle of the list.)

DJBaggySmalls · 25/08/2017 16:29

Sorry, thats not worldwide Blush

ErrolTheDragon · 25/08/2017 16:34

There may be some useful data here www.oecd.org/social/inequality.htm

PacificDogwod · 25/08/2017 16:36

Thank you, all, I must really bookmark stuff more, sorry Blush

I found this just there in my web travels - nothing to do with what I asked for but I liked it Smile

gap index 2016 This has good graphics for sharing in case anybody else needs 'ammunition'.

I am up against 'feminists want to get rid of all boys and men'.
Sigh.

This TED talk may be of interest

Interesting points in engaging and relatable ways

pigeondujour · 25/08/2017 17:05

Ew, why listen to that from a 14 year old?

BertrandRussell · 25/08/2017 17:12

I think I'd just refuse to enter into any debate until he produced some evidence for his point of view, frankly. He's not going to listen to facts and figures.

PacificDogwod · 25/08/2017 17:15

Ew, why listen to that from a 14 year old?

Because he lives with me and I have ears.

Bertrand, he loves facts and figures Grin
He was also trying tell me that Anita Sarkeesian was in favour of cutting all penises off and I am waiting for him to produce the quote...

I have intelligent boys who despair of their feminist mother, but who are fed such utter, utter crap outside the home that I feel a strong duty to inform them and help them develop descent critical, independent thinking skills.

OP posts:
pigeondujour · 25/08/2017 17:34

Having ears doesn't mean you have to listen to disrespectful bullshit.

EyesUnderARock · 25/08/2017 17:45

Better to listen and engage purposefully, as the OP is doing, than refuse to listen and let the ignorance go unchallenged. As the parent of an adult son and a feminist daughter, I salute you!

PacificDogwod · 25/08/2017 18:13

Listening is such an underrated skill, really listening.

What they are telling me (DS1 and DS2, 14 and 13, go to the same school 1 year apart) is that they are fearful, frightened by the fucking misinformation that is being spread by their peers, online and by so many things they see and hear.

I am trying to get them to THINK.
I am not asking them to simply believe what I am saying, I want them to switch their brains on.

MrsDustyBusty · 25/08/2017 19:02

They aren't able to actually see with their eyes the difference in income distribution between men and women world wide? Are they serious? I mean, there's listening and there's getting sucked into utter nonsense.

EyesUnderARock · 25/08/2017 19:10

Discussing perceptions, information and examining sources with a trusted and respected adult is one of the best ways to learn and ynderstand anything. Simply expecting teenagers to make sense of the confusion and unreliable adult world on their own can lead to undesirable outcomes.
Keep going Pacific!

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2017 19:13

Perhaps closer to home he could explain why male headteachers are paid more than female headteachers?

www.tes.com/news/school-news/breaking-news/exclusive-disturbing-gender-pay-gap-headteacher-salaries

Lauralou69 · 25/08/2017 19:19

I hear you!! Had big debate with my son when his teacher suggested that Emily Davison and the suffragettes were terrorists!!!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 25/08/2017 19:32

Still have arguments with ds1 about the suffragettes...he is all for the suffragists. I blame his teacher and the textbooks

Ds2 is coming back with a load of tripe from school (his friends obviously) about feminism and politics

He did query deaths in the workplace...i said'oooh that's interesting you said that' and then he looked at ds1 and said 'I apologise...i didnt think this through' which i thought was funny Smile

Dd and i say we are feminists and i think both ds1 and 2 would identify as allies depending on the definition

laughingclouds · 25/08/2017 19:40

OP, you're brilliant. Yes, if you don't engage they'll hear the people who will - their friends, youtubers, breitbart.

SylviaPoe · 25/08/2017 20:21

Some of these views aren't those you would hold unless you were getting involved with some dodgy stuff online.

PacificDogwod · 25/08/2017 20:38

They are teens - no, they don't see the gender pay gap with their own eyes.

Their online lives are pretty much gaming related.
Which is very a very male dominated world, still.
So, yes, some of this stuff comes from t'interweb and what is spread round their peer group all of whom access the internet, natch.

Thanks for the head teacher income link - that's the kind of stuff I need Grin

He's not intelligent. He's not thoughtful.

Oh and "fearful"? Really? Try being a teenage girl of his age fearful of being fucking murdered by a man. That's someone who doesn't want your sex to exist. I'm fed up of being an apologist for this misogynist shit. Others might entertain your son but I won't - he's a fucking misogynist.

NoLoveofMine · 26/08/2017 01:23

My youngest brother is 13 and obsessed with online gaming. If he came out with the absolute tripe your son does I'd not have anything to do with him.

EyesUnderARock · 26/08/2017 07:26

What an intolerant, inflexible response NoLove, what are you? A 17 year old ?
Oh.
You are.

SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 08:43

Why is there so much ageism towards No Love of Mine?

I've seen this on previous threads.

I agree with her that this is just misogyny.

DS is 19. He spent huge amounts of time gaming as a younger teenager, and never came out with all this kind of stuff.

Somerville · 26/08/2017 09:02

I'm a parent to a 14YO son as well, and the barrage of misogyny they are fed constantly needs equally constantly to be countered at home, in my experience. The links are helpful.

Having said that, NoLoveOfMine was very upset on her own threads last night. I won't make this a TAAT but I think that frequent FWR posters who saw them will have a lot of compassion.
