I am Jazz is a reality show focusing on the journey of a teenage transgirl/woman whos parents supported transition from aged 5 and has been on TV since aged 6.
Now aged 16.

I don't watch the show as I strongly disagree with everything about it. However I briefly saw a clip of the next episode as the tv happened to be on the channel that airs I am Jazz I had been watching say yes to the dress and it was about dating.

Jazz goes to a sort of speed dating event where everyone is sat in the dark. Jazz wants a relationship, which is normal for a teenager however Jazz does not tell the boys/men that they are trans and in fact male.
As they are in darkness Jazz feels that if they get to know each other without the barrier of seeing each other/being trans it may lead to a relationship.

For me this is totally wrong.
Why should it be ok for Jazz or anyone to withold the truth about a very important aspect of who they are?
Plus I would imagine there to be some very upset and angry teenage boys when they find out they have been duped and lied to.

I remember a good few years ago where a man killed his partner after finding out on a TV show that they were trans. There have been a few similar murders over the years.
I am in no way condoning the murder or harm of another person I am just highlighting the danger that can come if you lie about the sex you are and it should not be encouraged as no relationship can survive on lies.

I just wondered what other peoples thoughts are on the subject of lying about your sex to the people you date?

That's given me a lot to think about, Datun.

This sort of nonsense is becoming rife.

I haven't taken biology class in decades, but I'm pretty sure they still won't start with Chapter 1, 'Chemicals and Souls'.

RaininSummer · 04/08/2017 18:14

That poor child. He has been badly let down.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 04/08/2017 18:53

See this is what I don't fucking get!

They say to drop the stereotypes etc and us women have to accept that not all women bleed (dumbasses) but it's ok for them to say "you like girls toys but have a penis? You are trans go and chop it off and say you are a girl" it's all stupid and pathetic and makes me sick to be honest.

I'm sorry but innocent people have lost their children for a lot less, yet these parents of "Jazz" are allowed to mutilate and mild their child into what they want and get money out of it all! Sick, sick, sick!

OlennasWimple · 04/08/2017 19:21

I feel desperately sorry for Jazz Jennings, who has been sold an absolute lie by the people who should have been looking out for her, and no dolls and TV shows will make up for what she has suffered. Sad

WTAFisthisshit · 04/08/2017 19:33

Datun Seriously is biology not taught in schools these days??? Why the children not being taught basic biology and having their MH issues dealt with? This is insane.

alpacasandwich · 04/08/2017 19:46

Biology is taught. However, including the T in LGBT means that people associate trans with the horrors of homosexuality being illegal, gay conversion therapy, homosexuality as a paraphilia etc. That means kids are convinced they're on the right side of history with trans and that bio textbooks need rewriting.

WTAFisthisshit · 04/08/2017 19:52

alpaca my kids actually are pretty gender critical, but what some of the mates are coming out with is frightening! One is planning a sex change so that she can father a child with her girlfriend! I've tried explaining why this isn't possible but she's 'read about it on the internet' my DD believes me, but her mate doesn't. Schools need to be covering acceptance of trans in PSHE but basic facts need to be gone over repeatedly in Biology as well.

Datun · 04/08/2017 20:03

WTAFisthisshit

That was a mild one. I've seen so many youngsters saying things like 'but transwomen can give birth, fact'.

If you are cramping whilst menstruating, the most basic requirement is a uterus.

If you don't have a uterus and you are cramping, I suggest it's more to do with the requirement for a laxative.

WTAFisthisshit · 04/08/2017 20:07

There was an article on unilad the other day on a 'man' who had given birth. The comments on it from adults (and tbf some teens) were quite comforting, the responses from a lot of teens were beyond scary though.

WTFRMyPearls · 04/08/2017 20:13

"If you don't have a uterus and you are cramping, I suggest it's more to do with the requirement for a laxative."

Is this what 'trans women' do? That's completely disturbed.

I mean WTF I'd happily and joyful get rid of that aspect of womanhood.

Enough. Of. This. Shit. Take the bloody T out of LGBT and leave schools alone. It does make you think who in government is supporting this and why? Secret fetish someone?

Datun · 04/08/2017 20:20

Is this what 'trans women' do? That's completely disturbed.

Some of them, yes.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 04/08/2017 20:30

I can maybe get having "symptoms" such as moodiness and possibly hunger but maybe more so not. I mean, where do all the female hormones go that they guzzle down? Maybe it creates some emotional imbalance after a build up?

It's all bull though and I think wanting to change your body to that of the opposite sex is a mental illness and nothing to be ashamed of, but to do this and have it encouraged by doctors is weird and I reckon a social experiment and the victims are those that really believe in being transgender.

I sound like a hater but it's because I just don't get it, but I have science to back up why I don't get it.

JigglyTuff · 04/08/2017 20:47

Poor Jazz. He's being experimented on and no one is stopping it.

I have heard TW say they have cycles - they don't bleed but they think that their HRT gives them cycles. HRT for transwomen doesn't do that. And lots of lovely libfems telling them they probably do and yay for them.

Sometimes I truly despair at women's stupidity. We're so keen to be inclusive, we're inviting the wolf in and laying them a place at the table.

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/08/2017 20:53

However, including the T in LGBT means that people associate trans with the horrors of homosexuality being illegal, gay conversion therapy, homosexuality as a paraphilia etc. That means kids are convinced they're on the right side of history with trans and that bio textbooks need rewriting.

It all shows such a terrible lack of critical thinking. Our idea of 'history' changes all the time - what was it Napoleon said? That it was just a set of lies that we had all agreed upon? That seems particularly pertinent in these circumstances.
You can't be on the wrong side of biology, though, it's immutable fact!

And for everyone not wanting to repeat the mistakes made with the lgb community - what on earth is transing gender non-conforming children but gay conversion therapy - with added surgery and drugs!

badbadhusky · 04/08/2017 21:08

I am curious about whether Jazz could come off the cross-sex hormones and go through male puberty. I know Jazz would still have breast tissue, but it is not uncommon for men with hormone imbalances to develop breast tissue (gynaecomastia) and have that tissue removed surgically. As others have noted, it seems possible - even likely, given their interest in dating boys- that left to it, Jazz would have become a feminine-presenting young man and gay. I have read on here that very few adolescents who start hormone therapy desist, but is that because of social pressure/'in for a penny, in for a pound' thinking or because there's no way back medically?

WTFRMyPearls · 04/08/2017 21:18

"Jazz would have become a feminine-presenting young man and gay" That sounds lovely. And authentic. And diverse. And fabulous. A real human being being allowed to be and thrive with all his facets and free to choose who he wants to date. Would have probably made a nice gay guy very happy and vice versa Sad.

Datun · 04/08/2017 21:26

QuackPorridgeBacon

This new push to say they have periods, without blood, is a fresh turn from what I can tell.

I don't know whether the hormones that are taken are stopped, or increased, for any reason. Which may, or may not produce a different reaction.

But in no universe is it a period.

Sorry. But no. And all this, I cry at films, eat chocolate etc.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 04/08/2017 22:02

Ok. Then as a woman, I can argue that I definitely get erections. Can't I?

Because it's my subjective mental experience that matters, not some biological fact.

This is what comes of pathologising childhood.

JigglyTuff · 04/08/2017 22:16

HRT for men who want to present as women contains no progesterone. It's the progesterone which causes hormonal surges during the menstrual cycle. I've told a TW that it is imaginary. They are adamant it's true - even though there is no biological basis for it. But then they are adamant they are a woman, despite the fact that they have a cock and balls.

Datun · 04/08/2017 22:18

So if a transwoman was on oestrogen, whether permanently or intermittently, would it produce anything that could be considered period-esque?

badbadhusky · 04/08/2017 22:28

I had a conversation with a man who was on hormone therapy for cancer who was really shocked by how wobbly and emotional he felt when his hormones went out of whack and testosterone wasn't in charge any more. Being generous, maybe that's what MTT are experiencing - but it is not PMS or menstruation, as they don't have the full hormone complement for that, or the plumbing.

JigglyTuff · 04/08/2017 22:44

There are side effects to oestrogen only HRT but not sure they could be considered period-esque if you don't have the relevant bits. According to the NHS:
The main side effects associated with taking oestrogen include:

bloating
breast tenderness or swelling
swelling in other parts of the body
nausea
leg cramps
headaches
indigestion
vaginal bleeding

Women are very rarely prescribed oestrogen only because it increases the risk of ovarian cancer. More info: www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Hormone-replacement-therapy/Pages/Side-effects.aspx

One thing that is niggling is that women aren't allowed to take HRT for very long because it increases the risk of cancer and it's not prescribed at all to women who are obese or have high blood pressure. Does anyone care about that with TG men? Or is their health secondary to their mental well-being?

OlennasWimple · 04/08/2017 23:32

this seems like a good a place as any to make an observation about my personal experience taking androgen blockers...

In the past I have taken spironolactone as a treatment for acne. I have recently found out that it is one of the most commonly used drugs in the US for MTT hormone treatment.

As well as being very effective at clearing up my skin, I felt terrific on it: loads of energy, sleeping more soundly, generally feeling great. I wonder whether this is a common side-effect, and how often this is taken as a sign that hormone therapy is the right thing to be doing / relief to be starting down the trans route? (It is also a diuretic, which might rather focus the mind on the "which bathroom" issue more than otherwise)
