This is something which has been bothering me for while. As more and more people hit 'peak trans', more and more men are being gender critical. The most famous examples being Tucker Carlson, Ricky Gervais, and Piers Morgan. The other day, Graham Linehan (writer of Father Ted and IT Crowd) tweeted about the misogyny of calling women terfs. The response he received was half negative/ half positive, but the negative posts contained no death/ rape threats (as a lot of attacks on female terfs usually do). For example, the reaction to Jenni Murray was largely negative, with the positive responses being anonymous.

It seems that men are being taken more seriously than women on this issue. Linehan is not experiencing the same backlash Jenni got. I think people see his opinion as more valid than hers.

My point is, and I hate to say this, but we need men to help more people reach 'peak trans' and for the issue to be taken more seriously. It's safer for men to do this as their not in danger of losing their jobs, credibility etc, in the same way that women are.

Yes, very noticeable that the blokes never get told to "die in a fire" or fellate anyone's "ladydick."

I doubt women will ever be taken seriously on this matter.

I'd not realised this. I'm glad men are speaking out about this - even though it shouldn't take men pointing out an issue for it to be deemed valid.

Just tonight I was speaking with my boyfriend about how irksome I find it when men specifically tell women we're wrong or bigoted for objecting to the trans agenda. Thankfully he gets it (though if he didn't, as if he'd be my boyfriend).

Sam West (actor/director) also posted a gender-critical article on Twitter today. He did get some criticism and said he didn't agree with all of it. But he hasn't withdrawn it either.

Yes agree men don't get half as much abuse, surprise surprise... And I do begrudgingly feel that they need to be on board for this to be taken seriously. It's difficult though. Women and children are the ones with most at stake so it's harder for men to see/care about the issue imo.

The positive responses seem to mostly be women saying thank you.

This is what really grates. I cannot put the radio on or go to the shops, let alone visit a bar or restaurant without being subjected to endless glorifying references to rape, DV and abuse. Often sung by perpetrators of the same.

But one song, written in support and without hate and not only are the fuckwit TAs getting upset but the university is falling over itself to apologise to the snivelling professionally offended.

WhereYouLeftIt, you are right, they are some good comments on that link, its refreshing. The only thing that touches men is dating and sex. Men fear, both for personal safety and socially, of being with a MTT. And that's the biggest hurdle the trans community face. That's why there isn't a a male equivalent of the cotton ceiling, forcing themselves into male pants may well be their downfall.

Complaining about Lou Reed is mind blowing. Absolutely bonkers. It may represent how young and unaware tra are, or how rigid their thinking is.

That article you linked to was infuriating, DJ.

This particularly:
'an acronym for “Trans Exclusive Radical Feminist”. The people it is used to refer to are Radical Feminists who don’t include Trans people in their activism. That is not a slur or an insult but a literal, factual description of their position.'

What the author means is they don't centre trans women in their activism. And even if the author equates 'not centralising' with 'excluding', they're still wrong. Any activism that campaigns for protection of the right to have an abortion or the right not to be grabbed by the pussy does support the rights of many trans men. It isn't therefore trans exclusionary.

I saw an interesting video by a transwoman the other day. They talk about the Lou Reed song as an example of how 'trans stuff' (the word they used would get me deleted) has always had an element of sexiness to it.
