Why so much trans bashing on MN?

leighdinglady · 02/05/2017 15:26

I just don't get it at all.

Why do I see threads every day on MN which spout hatred and fear about the trans community. What's everyone so scared of??? Literally hundreds of posts of people talking like trans women are somehow a threat to biological women.

For a social platform which is meant to be friendly and approachable, this really stinks.

According to Stonewall (and several other 'credible' trans websites), I am a transgender man.

I can't wait to tell my boss tomorrow and get a pay rise! Smile

Transandproud

Welcome to Mumsnet! Smile

I think you're confusing 'female' and 'feminine'.

venusinscorpio · 03/05/2017 01:12

Of course I have sympathy for anyone who doesn't want to share a space with trans women and I think people have the right to that.

So what was "I don't automatically perceive someone to be a predator based on the fact they have the opposite genitals to me." If not holier than thou?

WhereYouLeftIt · 03/05/2017 01:13

"Anyone has the right to identify as female."
No. Just the actual females.

PirateQueenie · 03/05/2017 01:14

So what was "I don't automatically perceive someone to be a predator based on the fact they have the opposite genitals to me." If not holier than thou?

Erm... "that" was my opinion, because I don't. I accept that some people do feel that way though, and believe they have every right to those feelings as much as I do mine.

TransAndProud · 03/05/2017 01:15

The cis fascist hate towards trans on this thread is simply incredible. What gives you the right to define femininity?

Mumsnet should be truly ashamed.

HildaOg · 03/05/2017 01:15

The end of womens sports due to any boy or man declaring themselves feeling like a woman therefore allowed to participate.

Any man who declares himself to feel like a woman can enter a womans changing room and the type of man who does that is the very reason we have segregated changing areas!

It's not about trans, it's about any male being allowed to use trans politics to enter supposedly safe female spaces and destroy women's sports. That's being celebrated and to oppose it is considered 'transphobic', therefore the trans movement have pitted themselves against us and our rights.

My daughter won't have the same sporting opportunities I did. There'll be no point in working hard to win when any boy or man can come along to take it away. She won't be able to play contact sports if males decide its their right to join the team because they will pose a physical risk to her. That pisses me off no end.

I think TransAndProud is being sarcastic.

At least I hope they are... Confused

HildaOg · 03/05/2017 01:16

And we're women. Not cis anything.

FerretsAreFeminists · 03/05/2017 01:16

Or maybe not...

Confused
Datun · 03/05/2017 01:17

The thing is pirate. There are a handful of men who suffer from gender dysphoria. They are really not the threat. They want to go in under the radar and not create any problems for anyone. All of us have been sharing our bathrooms with these men for years. No problems. It was a courtesy system and no one cared. You could safely challenge anyone if you wanted.

But as transgenderism has gained traction, every transwomen with a fetish is now included. Because they are campaigning so vociferously, it means that every predator, fetishist, paedophile, rapist, chancer and voyeur in the land has a green light.

I disagree with the basic premise of the ideology. But I would have let it all go had it not taken this turn.

We now are in the ridiculous position of having to prove something.

Does anyone seriously think I would have had the slightest interest in gender dysphoria, read reams and reams and done a load of research if I didn't have to!

You have ZERO right to tell a trans what to think.

Ironic.

TransAndProud · 03/05/2017 01:21

It's really saddening to see this. For all MN's attempts to appear a progressive, useful part of a modern society, it's members are actually trans-haters.

This needs to be exposed.

PirateQueenie · 03/05/2017 01:21

Datun - how would it be monitored/policed/controlled etc? I'm genuinely curious. Some transwomen, particularly those who begin treatment early on, are not exactly obvious. In which case would these people be allowed in women's only spaces, but those who were more physically obvious not be? I'm not arguing the point, just genuinely wondering.

FerretsAreFeminists · 03/05/2017 01:22

Oh pull the other one. It plays jingle bells.

FerretsAreFeminists · 03/05/2017 01:23

That was to Trans btw.

TransAndProud · 03/05/2017 01:23

"Oh pull the other one. It plays jingle bells." - You're a very cold, uncaring person.

"What gives you the right to define femininity?"
We don't define femininity. Femininity is a social construct, like gender. Anyone can perform femininity. If they want to.

Datun · 03/05/2017 01:24

What gives you the right to define femininity?

We all know what it means. Knock yourself out. It doesn't mean you're female.

FerretsAreFeminists · 03/05/2017 01:25

You're a very cold, uncaring person.

Thank you Smile

TransAndProud · 03/05/2017 01:26

Those last few responses. There's the CIS gender hate towards Trans fully exposed. Will MN tolerate this?

WhereYouLeftIt · 03/05/2017 01:27

"not sure if this poster is joking or not. Which only underlines how ridiculous the whole thing is"
Yup. My money is on a teenaged boy, thinking he is being dead incisive and sooo hard to argue with. And cool. Definitely cool. Or whatever word teenagers are using for that these days.
